In2013,agroupofSkylineCollegestudentsdubbedthe“GreenGorillas”pilotedawastediversionprograminthecampuscafeteria.Byeducatingfellowstudentsoncompostingandrecyclingandensuringpropersorting,theGreenGorillasachieveda45%reductioninwastegoingtothelandfilljustinthe2-weekpilotstage.TheprojectwontheGreenGorillastheCaliforniaCommunityCollegesBoardofGovernorsEnergyEfficiencyandSustainabilityAwardintheFaculty/StudentInitiativescategoryin2014.
