WELCOME
We’re so lucky to be situated in a really up-and-coming area with fabulous little cafés, bars and restaurants on our doorstep, some of which have outside seating for a real summer vibe! And while we’re on the subject, remember that if you’re thinking about getting in shape for summer, Skypark has Pilates and ‘legs, bums and tums’ at lunchtime – ask Kelly for more info.
We’ve themed this issue of Skyline around an ambitious project that the team here is excited and proud to host - Michael Murray’s artist in residence project which launches in April. It’s been a massive project for us and the artist with support from Arts & Business Scotland. Michael in collaboration with our tenants, has produced some permanent bespoke works for Skypark during his time here. Thanks to everyone that took part – you’ve helped us leave a legacy for future generations to enjoy!
This issue, we’ve also introduced a new section: Style Icons! See page 6 for more. This feature will regularly highlight the best dressed on site... will it be you? There’s also a tenant spotlight on page 4 – we want all our tenants to get to know each other, and perhaps even work together, so this section helps to make that happen.
Skyline Spring is also jam-packed with tenant news, offers and updates. We hope you find this useful and, of course if there’s ever anything you’d like to see featured in the magazine, please don’t hesitate to have a chat to Kelly.
It’s going to be a busy few months and we hope that you enjoy Spring at Skypark. As Leo Tolstoy said “Spring is the Season of plans and projects” and that’s certainly true here! Best wishes
Lisa & [email protected]@skypark-glasgow.com
Spring has sprung! The days are getting longer, thank goodness, and now that the weather’s finally starting to get milder, we can start to make the most of the fantastic location around Skypark.

Did you know that Scotland is ranked third in Europe’s top 50 games developer locations*? That’s quite an achievement for our small country.
One of the gaming sector’s success stories is Pole to Win International whose UK head office is based here at Skypark. Marion Muir, General Manager and Site Head of Pole to Win International tells us the company’s story so far.
Marion says, “We are “gamers at heart” and we live and breathe the gaming industry! We are proud to be one of the leading providers of games testing and customer support services to the interactive entertainment industry.
“We have worked across all platforms, regions and genres of games supporting many thousands of games for publishers and developers both large and small, worldwide and in Scotland”
“Our UK office, based on the 9th floor of Skypark in Glasgow is the centre for localisation games testing and customer support. Skypark, Glasgow is an ideal location to have a UK base. The city has a wealth of foreign language students that we recruit from the universities who live locally. Our staff is multi lingual as our testing requires native level language skills to ensure the best quality results.”

Tenant Focus:
Marion continues, “Besides the traditional Console focus, we are increasingly seeing our clients extend into the Mobile, Social/Casual and MMO market segments and this is very exciting development. It’s great to be playing our part in providing a unique service to the worldwide gaming sector and we aim to continue this success into the future.”
For example, Scotland has a thriving gaming industry, thanks to a close knit community of developers around Dundee and a growing creative output from the country’s universities. The country punches well above its weight and has consistently produced world-famous titles such as classic Lemmings, the BAFTA-Award winning Championship Manager 5 and Grand Theft Auto **. We are thrilled to announce the artist and teacher Chi Zhang of the Confucius Institute for Scotland is exhibiting his work at Skypark. This is a rare opportunity to view an extensive range of Chinese calligraphy and brush painting by Scotland’s leading Chinese artist.
Chi Zhang says “My paintings focus on the Scottish landscape and encapsulate the essence of the surroundings. I do this using traditional Chinese materials and techniques, exploiting the rich effects created by the interaction of brush, ink, water and paper, and contrasting delicate line with patches of ink and colour. I am delighted to be exhibiting at Skypark and hope that people onsite will be inspired by art in the workplace.”
Chi is a graduate of Dundee’s Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design. His work has been exhibited both in the UK and in China: VAS annual exhibition in the Royal Scottish Academy, Edinburgh (2012/2013); Tramway Visual Art Centre, Glasgow (2006); Henan Province Art, Centre, China (1999); and China Printing Museum, Beijing, China (2003). His artwork has also been featured in the media, including China Daily, Dundee Courier, China News Channel, China Radio International and Beijing Evening News.
Chi’s work will be on show to the end of April in Skypark 1. More on Chi Zhang is available here:

Calling all art fans! We are thrilled to announce that our artist in residence, Michael Murray will unveil his bespoke Skypark art exhibition at the start of April.
As you all know, Michael has taken inspiration from your ideas and Skypark’s iconic views of the Glasgow skyline were at the top of the wish list.
Michael says, “A massive thank you to everyone who got behind the project. On the first day I climbed onto the roof and snapped 500 pictures of the Glasgow skyline. It’s situations like that when I wish I could spread some wings and have a quick fly around the city before lunch!”

Having seen recent advertising from St Andrew’s First Aid (the leading provider of First Aid in Scotland) expressing these sentiments, a group from Skypark enrolled for a Baby and Child First Aid class. The group thoroughly enjoyed the class which is ideal for anyone wishing to gain knowledge and experience of First Aid for babies and children. The course content includes:- accidents in the home/nursery; recovery position; CPR and treatment for shock; disorders of breathing; hypothermia; disorders of consciousness; wounds and bleeding; injuries to bones and soft tissue; burns and scalds; poisons and miscellaneous conditions.
One high profile celebrity who recently undertook the course was Kaye Adams and her daughter Charly. Before taking the course Kaye had first-hand experience of dealing with a terrifying moment when her five year old daughter Bonnie turned pale and fell from a chair during a visit to the hairdressers. “When Bonnie collapsed I had no idea what to do,” said Kaye. “As a parent you always have a niggling worry at the back of your head that you might not be able to act in the event of an emergency. You always think it’s not going to happen to you, but things do happen and I hated feeling so inadequate.”
If you would like to take part in a St Andrew’s First Aid training course visit www.firstaid.org.uk/training.
We also have to give an amazing award to our Busy Bees for the best dragon dance. The 3-5 year olds had been learning about Chinese New Year and performed with great energy and enjoyment in the foyer. We learned the most amazing things about China including how long it takes to walk the Great Wall. The staff did forget to hand out the fortune cookies but promise this will happen next year.
Do come and visit if you want to see just how amazing Four Seasons is!

Four Seasons at Skypark loves to celebrate and we have had reason to enjoy success. We were amazed recently to be awarded the best small
business (fewer than 50 employees) by Glasgow City Council for our work with Modern Apprentices. The ceremony took place in Glasgow City Chambers at a prestigious event. In the last Skyline we described our approach to working with these school leavers so it is fantastic
that our efforts have been recognised. We continue to work with young people to engage them in the world of work giving them the opportunity to develop their careers. Our first Modern Apprentice some 15 years ago is now our dedicated Planning and Development Manager.
The nursery celebrated our first award ceremony in February. Our parents, staff and management voted for a variety of awards and the night was a great success. We are graded excellent by the Care Inspectorate so it is important to endorse their grading with the views of our service users. We had amazing comments from our parents about the care and education our staff were providing for their children.
St Andrew’s First Aid Launch Courses for Parents and Children
In an emergency situation it is critical that basic First Aid is delivered with confidence. Every parent dreads a serious injury for their child and a knowledge of basic First Aid training
could make a life-saving difference.
From research it is known that Scottish parents are poorly equipped to deliver potentially life-saving First Aid to save their child in a medical emergency. 45% of Scottish parents would not be confident of knowing what to do if their 10 year old child was choking and the greatest fears have been identified as head injury, choking, drowning, and burns.

Introduced by the UK Government, the Welfare Reform Act 2012 is big news. It represents the biggest shake up of the welfare system in 60 years and it could affect people in work. For example, it could affect you if you are working and claiming child tax credits or working tax credits and are living in rented accommodation or are a factored owner. Here’s a quick guide on the changes and how you can find out more.
In April 2013, the Under Occupancy Tax or ‘Bedroom Tax’ will be introduced. For example, if you are a couple under Pension Credit age with no children, living in a two bedroom house, you will be considered as having one bedroom too many. This means that your housing benefit will be cut by 14%. Single people with a three bedroom house will be considered as having two bedrooms too many and will lose 25% of their housing benefit.
In June, the Disability Living Allowance (DLA) will be replaced by Personal Independence Payments. Initially this will affect new claimants only but over time existing DLA claimants will be assessed under the new scheme. This is likely to result in many losing some or all of their entitlement.
The Universal Credit represents the most radical and far reaching reform of the benefits system ever attempted and will represent a challenge to claimants in terms of how they budget, pay their rent and manage claims online. A monthly payment will be paid into a bank account and will include Housing Benefit, Child Tax Credit, Working Tax Credit, Income Support, Income-based Jobseekers Allowance, Income-related Employment and Support Allowance.

“We all need to take time to get away from it all but we never seem to get around to it! Happily, this is an opportunity for you, colleagues or friends to experience a memorable and spectacular day out in one of Scotland’s most stunning landscapes.”
Graham continues “The trip will head from the top of Cumbrae across the Firth of Clyde, past Rothesay and Port Banantyne and into the stunning chasm of The Kyles. The journey is steeped in history. You’ll see The Burnt Isles, Wreck Bay and ‘The Maids of Bute’ as we head up to Caladh. At anchor in Caladh Harbour you’ll be served a gourmet lunch on board, provided by Fins of Fairlie.
“Next we circumnavigate Bute down the West Kyles, passing Tighnabruaich, and the spectacular views of Arran and its ‘Sleeping Warrior’. At the southern tip of Bute, we steer a course back to Largs across open water and don’t forget to look out for dolphins and submarines!” finishes Graham.
