    Installation instructions #2

Download of Software from the InternetAfter you have downloaded SkyFile as a ZIP file from our website under

www.francetelecom-mobilesat.com , unpack it with WinZip into an empty tempo-rary folder (directory), e.g. C:\Temp. Then start SETUP program (see above) inthis temporary folder and follow the instructions in the installation program. Clickon "Continue".

Windows has to berestarted after installationin order to load the driver. The software will onlyfunction properly afterthis. Before restartingWindows, please removethe CD from the drive.

Further installation stepsThe installation program sets up a "SkyFile" group in the Windows Start menuunder "Programs", in which you will find the software. If you want SkyFile to openautomatically whenever the computer boots up, please copy a short cut to theAutosync.exe program (in the SkyFile folder) in the Autostart folder. The first timeyou start the SkyFile Message list (Windows Start menu - Programs - SkyFile -SkyFile) the Setup dialogue box (in "Access and dial parameters") automaticallyopens.

    Entering the account parameters

Master username: Enter the user name provided by the Customer Service (yourusername is similar with the word in your e-mail address in front of the "@").Master password: You will receive your password from the Customer Serviceupon registration. Some Windows versions only show three stars * after re-entering this window, this is, in fact, confusing but correct.Access mode (Quickinstall): For standard satellite terminals like e.g.miniM/Phone, choose your terminal and confirm with "Yes" to execute the appro-priate settings. Depending on your choice, the COM port or the ISDN-MSN may

be changed ifneeded (see nextpages).Number: The dial-number will be filledout automaticallyafter selecting theaccess mode(mostly the short

code 28#).Port: The port to beused for your datatransmission deviceis normally correctlyset by the Quickin-stall-button. Pleaseclick on "Options" incase you want to

    change the com-munication parame-ters.

Blocked address book: By choosing this option, you can restrict mobile-to-fixedmessages to only the destinations/addressees entered in the SkyFile addressbook. This parameter can be changed with the master password.

Installing the standard mail-to handler and thefax driver

Setting SkyFile as standard mail programAfter making the configuration, you are asked to set SkyFile as the standardprogram for e-mails, which ensures that when you click on a mail link in yourInternet browser (e.g. Internet Explorer), SkyFile automatically starts, and thedestination address is correctly entered.

The standard mail-to program option can also be activated later under "Options"in the Message list.

Installation of fax driverTo produce telefax pages SkyFile employs a printer driver, which you can alsoinstall in the Message list under "Options" ("Install fax support"). After restartingWindows the fax printer driver is available as a virtual printer called SkyFile, andcan be used from any application.

    5

5To enable the fax printer's preview function to operate properly, check that the Windows "Imaging"

accessory is installed on your PC and is linked as the standard application for *.tif-files.

    SkyFile-Installation in a LAN

The SkyFile client may be used on several workstations in a local area network(LAN). In case subaccounts are installed, this means, that all different userscould theoretically access an own mailbox from their PC, as long as it isconnected to the LAN.

For this purpose, SkyFile just needs to be installed once on the PC connected tothe satcom terminal. After installation, the SkyFile installation directory has to bemade available (mostly C:\SKYFILE) for read/write file sharing with other PCs in

the LAN (in the file explorer you will see a hand under the SkyFile directory).

The other workstations are connected by simply creating a desktop link throughthe LAN to the file "autosync.exe" in the SkyFile installation directory.

When using subaccounts, we recommend to create a link to the transfer module"host32.exe" in the Windows Autostart folder in order to ensure internal e-mails(between subaccounts) to be delivered instantly. Internal e-mails may be sentand received free of charge, using the full local e-mail addresses including thesubaccount names.

    Postpaid/Prepaid Crew E-mailing

More and more crew members ask for an easy to use and cheap e-solution tosend and receive e-mails to and from their family and friends at home, as e-mailsare much cheaper than voice calls. But so far, most ship owners are reluctant toprovide the crew with e-mail facilities for security reasons and as they don't wantto be charged for the airtime produced by their crews.

For this reason, thanks to the described subaccount features, SkyFile makes iteasy for the captain to offer crew e-mailing: even prepaid crew e-mailing can be

offered with a minimum of administrative efforts involved and without additionalinvestment as the available hard- and software components on board can beused:

Thanks to the private subaccounts, each crew-member can get his own pass-word protected onboard e-mail-address.

A separated PC for the crew, connected via LAN, can be installed e.g. in thecrew room to save the crew from visiting the bridge to check their e-mails.

Only the Captain is allowed to start the e-mail transfer.

The crew-traffic can be charged on a monthly basis or at any time, e.g. if aperson leaves the vessel. The bill is very detailed, each message is docu-mented and priced, the captain may select between two options: volume- orconnection times based billing. In both cases, the invoice is wellcomprehensive and understandable for both, captain and crew.

The rate for the crew will be defined by the captain himself.

To avoid misuse, the captain can set a monthly or general traffic limitation foreach subaccount. After reaching this traffic limit, the crew subaccount cannot

    produce any additional messaging-costs14.

Prepaid crew e-mailing:In order to offer a "prepaid" crew e-mailing onboard, the captain needs to set thetraffic limit according to the prepaid amount of money, the crew is willing tospend for e-mailing.

14Please note that the reception of e-mails stops only after the next dial-in after the limit has been

reached! So it might happen that the limit set will be exceeded for a certain amount.

Further questions as to the usage of subaccounts and split billing?

In the SkyFile area of our homepage www.francetelecom-mobilesat.com, youllfind more information on setting up and using Subaccounts and the Split Bill-ing feature.
