given healthy in accomplishing her skripsi entitle” The Vocabulary Mastery of the
Tenth Graders of SMAN 1 Pecangaan Jepara after having Gerakan Literasi as a
Program of Reading Habit”.

suggestions, support, and always guide the writer to accomplishing this skripsi.

Reading is one of the several ways to increase vocabulary and knowledge.
Reading skill plays an important role in our lives because knowledge gained
through reading. Therefore, this skill should be well-educated by the students
early on, however learning at the current school has not been able to realize it.
Based on this, the Ministry of Education and Culture develop a school literacy
movement or Gerakan Literasi Sekolah (GLS) that involves all stakeholders in
education, from the central, province, and district. The program aims to improve
and to motivate the students to have a reading habit by doing the reading activity
every day. By doing this activity the students will get more vocabularies and
better understanding in comprehending a text. Enriching vocabulary is also one of
the goals in this program.
The aim of this research is to know how is the vocabulary mastery of the
tenth graders of SMAN 1 Pecangaan Jepara after having Gerakan Literasi as a
program of reading habit and to know how is the response of the tenth graders of
SMAN 1 Pecangaan Jepara after having Gerakan Literasi as a program of reading
habit.
Type of this research is quantitative non-experimental research. The
subject of this research is the tenth graders of SMAN 1 Pecangaan Jepara in
academic year 2017/2018. In this research, the writer uses test and questionnaire
as the instrument of the research.
The result of this research is: (1) the vocabulary mastery of the tenth
graders of SMAN 1 Pecangaan Jepara after having Gerakan Literasi as a program
of reading habit is in good category and the mean is 71.81. (2) The response of the
tenth graders of SMAN 1 Pecangaan Jepara after having Gerakan Literasi as a
program of reading habit is good. Based on the students’ response, they think that
Gerakan Literasi is important, but the Gerakan Literasi text is quite difficult.
Beside, some students think that Gerakan Literasi makes their vocabulary mastery
and their reading comprehension improved. But on the other English skill such as
writing ability, speaking ability, and listening ability could not be improved.
The conclusion of this research is: (1) the vocabulary mastery of the tenth
graders of SMAN 1 Pecangaan after having Gerakan Literasi as a program of
reading habit is in a good category. It can be seen from the mean of the students
vocabulary mastery is 71.81. (2) The response of the the tenth graders of SMAN 1
Pecangaan after having Gerakan Literasi as a program of reading habit is good. It
is showed by many questions answered by the students with “yes” option.
Besides, the writer also provides suggestions for English teacher, students, and the
readers.

Membaca adalah salah satu dari beberapa cara untuk meningkatkan kosa
kata dan pengetahuan. Keterampilan membaca berperan penting dalam kehidupan
kita karena pengetahuan diperoleh melalui membaca. Oleh Karena itu,
keterampilan ini harus dikuasai siswa dengan baik sejak dini. Tetapi pembelajaran
dibeberapa sekolah belum dapat diwujudkan. Berdasarkan hal tersebut, Mentri
Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan mengembangkan gerakan literasi sekolah (GLS)
yang melibatkan semua pemangku kepentingan di bidang pendidikan, mulai dari
tingkat pusat, provinsi, kabupaten/kota, hingga satuan pendidikan. Program ini
bertujuan untuk meningkatkan and memotivasi para siswa untuk mempunyai
kebiasaan membaca dengan aktivitas membaca setiap hari, dengan melakukan
aktivitas ini, para murid akan mendapatkan banyak kosa kata and dapat
memahami teks dengan baik. Meningkatkan kosa kata juga merupakan tujuan dari
program ini.
Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui bagaimana penguasaan
kosa kata dan tanggapan siswa kelas sepuluh SMAN 1 Pecangaan Jepara setelah
melakukan Gerakan Literasi sebagai program dari kebiasaan membaca.
Jenis penelitian ini adalah kuantitatif non-eksperimental. Subjek pada
penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas sepuluh SMAN 1 Pecangaan Jepara pada tahun
ajaran 2017/2018. Pada penelitian ini, penulis menggunakan tes dan kuesioner
sebagai instrument penelitian.
Hasil pada penelitian ini adalah: (1) penguasaan kosa kata pada siswa
kelas sepuluh SMAN 1 Pecangaan Jepara berada di kategori baik. Dan nilai rata-
ratanya adalah 71.81. (2) tanggapan siswa pada siswa kelas sepuluh SMAN 1
Pecangaan Jepara setelah melakukan Gerakan Literasi sebagai program dari
kebiasaan membaca adalah baik. Berdasarkan tanggapan siswa, mereka berfikir
bahwa Gerakan Literasi itu penting, tetapi pada Gerakan Literasi teks cukup sulit.
Disamping itu, beberapa murid berfikir bahwa Gerakan Literasi membuat
penguasaan kosa kata dan pemahaman membaca mereka meningkat. Tetapi, pada
kemampuan bahasa Inggris yang lain seperti kemampuan menulis, kemampuan
berbicara, dan kemampuan mendengarkan tidak dapat meningkat.
Keismpulan pada penelitian ini adalah: (1) penguasaan penguasaan kosa
kata pada siswa kelas sepuluh SMAN 1 Pecangaan Jepara berada di kategori
baik. Itu dapat dilihat dari nilai rata-rata penguasaan kosa kata siswa yaitu 71.81.
(2) tanggapan siswa kelas sepuluh tanggapan siswa pada siswa kelas sepuluh
SMAN 1 Pecangaan Jepara setelah melakukan Gerakan Literasi sebagai program
dari kebiasaan membaca adalah baik. Ini ditunjukkan dari banyaknya pertanyaan
yang dijawab oleh murid dengan pilihan “ya”. Disamping itu, penulis juga
menyediakan saran untuk guru, siswa, dan pembaca.
Kata Kunci: Penguasaan kosa kata, Gerakan Literasi, kebiasaan membaca.
