  • SKPS is founded on the principles of an ethos of high standards and high aspirations, a culture of active participation, an emotionally rich and inclusive learning environment within which every child is known and every learner supported.

We aim to find and develop everything that is exceptional in each child to help them flourish within a framework of high expectations. We motivate and inspire our pupils to achieve their very best, to fly high, and to establish firm foundations to ensure the brightest of futures.

    Our Vision and Values

  • SKPS offers the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP) alongside the Early Years Foundation Stage and National Curriculum for England.

This serves to provide families in the area with an all-through, inclusive and non-selective IB education in the Tunbridge Wells area.

The IB PYP is highly regarded, international curriculum offered in school all around the world. This network of schools provides many opportunities for connecting with learners from different countries, cultures and contexts.

  • The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring young people who help to create

a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.

The IB programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate, and lifelong learners who

understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.

    IB Mission Statement

  • International Baccalaureate® (IB) programmes aim to do more than other curricula by developing inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who are motivated to succeed. We strive to develop students who will build a better world through intercultural understanding and respect.

IB programme frameworks can operate effectively with national curricula at all ages; more than 50% of IB World Schools are state-funded.

The IB's programmes are different from other curricula because they:

encourages students of all ages to think critically and challenge assumptions

develop independently of government and national systems, incorporating quality practice from research and our global community of schools

encourages students of all ages to consider both local and global contexts

    develop multilingual students.

In order to teach IB programmes, schools must be authorized. Every school authorized to offer IB programmes is known as an IB World School.

    Why the IB is different

  • • The IB PYP is an educational programme managed by the IB for students aged 3-12.

    • It focuses on the development of the whole child as an inquirer, both in the classroom and in the world outside. The PYP is flexible enough to accommodate the demands of the EYFS and National curriculum for England and provides the best preparation for pupils to engage in the IB Middle Years programme.

    What is a PYP Education?

  • IB Learner Profile

  • IB PYP Curriculum

    • The PYP curriculum is divided into three interrelated components and in keeping with the PYP commitment to inquiry.

    • These three components are expressed in the form of the these three open-ended questions about student learning.

  • National Curriculum

  • National Curriculum

  • IB PYP The Primary National Curriculum

Teachers and pupils together design their

own units of inquiry that transcends

    conventional subject boundaries.

Far greater freedom and autonomy for

schools- the curriculum does not tell teachers

"how to teach", but concentrates on "the

essential knowledge and skills every child

should have" so that teachers "have the

freedom to shape the curriculum to their

    pupils' needs".

Skills are acquired within a meaningful

    international context, allowing students to

connect their learning to real-world issues.

The national curriculum sets out the

programmes of study and attainment targets

    for all subjects.

New demands on subject knowledge which

gives all pupils an introduction to the essential

knowledge that they need to become

    educated citizens

There is huge emphasis on pupils formulating

their own questions, researching the answers,

reflecting on their findings and taking action.

Pupils are introduced to a curriculum that

embeds an appreciation of human creativity

    and achievement

The National curriculum and the IB PYP

  • Assessing the National Curriculum Assessing the IB PYP

At SKPS we use the assessment tool Target Tracker for English, Maths and Science in KS1 and KS2. All other curriculum areas are based on teacher judgements/knowledge and ongoing work scrutiny and moderation.

Target Tracker enables staff to track pupils of all their targets to check they are meeting age related expectations for the year group they are in.

They also will take any statutory tests for England.

All assessment in the PYP is carried out internally by teachers within the school.

The IB does not set examinations nor does it moderate grades in the PYP.

There are two types of assessment:Formative assessment is embedded in the teaching and learning process and therefore occurs in the daily routine of a classroom. It aims to support pupils to become better learners and helps teachers to plan the next stages of learning.

Summative assessment occurs at the end of the teaching a learning process and provides students with opportunities to demonstrate what they have learned in a new context. It aims to give teachers, pupils and parents clear, evidence-based insight into pupils understanding at a particular moment in time.

  • Thank you for showing your enthusiasm for your child’s learning by coming to this meeting.

We want to work together to provide the best learning for your child.

    Thank you!!!
