Sketching London 2015
JanuaryA chance to draw one of the London buses which were used in the First World War to transport troops, when it was on display at a special London Transport day at the Olympic Park.
February
Trying to capture the street artists at work in Croydon’s Artists Quarter.
MarchMore street artists at
work, this time in the Leake Street tunnel
near Waterloo.
MarchSketching some of South
London’s heritage with the ‘Free Watermen and
Lightermen’s’ Almshouses in Penge and the Water Tower in Park Hill Park,
Croydon
AprilDrawings from my
sketchbook, made along the Thames at Barnes,
the day before the annual University Boat
Race
AprilOut and about in London on the Southbank and at Kings Cross station.
MayViews of the imposing Millennium Mills building in Silvertown London, drawn when a group from London Urban Sketchers were invited onsite to record the progress of the building development work.
May & JuneTwo views of the lovely Park Hill Park in Croydon.
July & AugustAs part of the Sydenham Arts Festival, I exhibited work at ‘On the Hoof’ bistro on the high street so it seemed a good opportunity to do some sketches of the interior.
AugustAdmiralty Arch in the Mall and a 20th Century interpretation in concrete at Croydon College.
SeptemberDrawing the preparations for a pop-up saffron farm on a demolition site in the centre of Croydon. The plan was to plant over 20,000 crocus sativus corms and harvest the crop before Christmas.
September
Drawing the volunteers hard at work at Croydon Saffron Central.
October
Something old and something
new(ish) in Croydon –
‘Wrencote’, designed by
one of Sir Christopher
Wren’s pupils and the
twentieth century block which is now the home of
the Easy Hotel.
OctoberTwo views of Albert Bridge from either side of the Thames, drawn on a trip out with the London Urban Sketchers.
NovemberBack to capture the saffron being carefully harvested at Croydon Saffron Central. The harvesters used tweezers to collect the orange strands from the centre of each of the flowers, putting them into small jars, ready to be taken offsite to be dried.
NovemberAnother trip out with the
London Urban Sketchers, this time at a very busy Borough
Market. Always a great venue for
drawing, I had a go at sketching the complicated roof structure and also the little oval-shaped
building, used as the setting for Bridget Jones’ flat in the film
“Bridget Jones’ Diary”.
DecemberFinishing off the year by
drawing Santa at a special Christmas
weekend at Venue 28 in Beckenham.
