Skeletal System
Matthew Leaden
3-1
Overview
• The Skeletal system keeps your body in shape, protects your vital organs, such as the Heart, Brain, and Lungs, and enables you to move.
• There are 206 bones. The main bones are the Skull, Spine, Pelvic, Ribs, and Femur.
Parts of the system
• The Skull protects your brain so when you fall on your head it won’t do as much damage.
• The Jaw bone helps to move your mouth and to chew your food into tiny particles.
• The Spine helps you to stand up and to not hurl over.
• The collar bone protects your upper shoulder.
Parts of the system
• The Breastbone, or the sternum, is linked to the bones which make up the ribs. The Ribs also protect the Lungs.
• The Pelvic is down by your waste. It protects the hip.
• The Femur is a very big bone. It has a lot of bone and helps you move.
• The Sternum holds your Ribs together.
