Trap, Skeet, and

Sporting Clays Club On Saturday May 14th,

was our Free Skeet Clinic

for members and instructed

by our very own Club Pro,

Andy Spooner.

Turnout for both the be-

ginner and intermediate

skill levels was well attend-

ed and the feedback re-

ceived was extremely posi-

tive. Andy presents a very

informative clinic consisting

of theory, proper gun-fit,

positioning, hold point,

leads and follow through.

Several of the members

that participated in the

clinic commented on how

much they learned despite

their own interpretation of

the techniques and equip-

ment they currently use on

a daily basis of shooting

skeet.

Andy provides the clinic

each and every spring for

club members free of charge

and enjoys passing on his

knowledge and skills that he

has acquired as a competi-

tive, recognized skeet shoot-

er across Canada and Na-

tional stage of competition.

Our next goal perhaps for

the club would be to conduct

a trap clinic for our every

growing trap shooters to

take advantage of and en-

hance their skills.

We would like to thank

Andy once again for his ded-

ication and commitment to

our corporation in providing

such a valuable event for

our membership, thanks

Andy!

Here are a couple of pic-

tures taken at the clinic.

On June 7th, Ken Huntley

(Bud) sadly passed away at

home. Bud was a part of

our club for many years

and thoroughly enjoyed the

comradery and friendships

he had with all the club

members. He loved to tell

his stories and they all

were truly amazing.

A very skilled carver of

wood decoys and produced

beautiful products from

refinishing firearms.

His skeet shooting skills

were nothing to scoff at

either as he made it look

easy to the younger shoot-

ers. Ken you will missed,

rest easy.

Back in April, in our continuous

effort to promote the club and it’s ac-

tivities, we invited the folks from Sta-

tion 14, a local media station that doc-

uments local area activities and news

events.

The journalists were very receptive

and excited to the idea of producing a

video interview of the club to provide

an awareness to the Kingston commu-

nity of our activities that we have to

offer.

After an introduction, range tour

and some discussion, it was time to

rehearse for the live interview and

demonstration of what skeet and trap

were and have them try a few rounds.

Despite some nervousness and re-

hearsal attempts it was time to shoot

the live video. Our club President

proceeded to instructor the interview-

er Jamie Patterson on how to shoot a

few targets from Station 1 and 7.

Having previous firearm experience,

she had no problem hitting some tar-

gets.

For those of you who have not yet

had the chance or opportunity to

watch the video that was produced

and put on the Station 14 website,

here is the link:

Spooner and Gary Tisdale performed

their demos throughout the day and

the crowds were receptive to learning

more. Our resident chef Jim Riga

along with David Fitzerman, sweat

over the grill and cranked out some

awesome food that was a huge suc-

cess.

A few memberships were purchased

and many expressed interest in ac-

quiring their PAL in order to return to

become a member. Thanks to all the

On Saturday Aug 27th was our first

Open House event at the club. This

fundraising event was “targeted” to

invite the public from the local com-

munities to visit us, learn about the

various disciplines and try their hand

at shooting a few targets of their own.

The weather was clear in a million

and turnout from the community was

a pleasant surprise. Several families

attended and took advantage of trying

their hand at some targets. Andy

teer corporation that prides ourselves

on promoting a team effort in every

aspect of maintaining the facility for

all to enjoy, including our visitors/

guests.

Unfortunately our team is getting

smaller which means things will begin

to suffer as far as services during Sun-

days day of operation if more mem-

bers do not step up and volunteer to

be part of the team that runs the club

on Sundays along with the executive.

So let’s help out and keep the momen-

tum moving forward in a positive di-

rection and please volunteer to be

part of the Core Kitchen Staff.

Provide your name to one of the ex-

ecutive members and we will ensure

you receive the small amount of train-

ing required. Thank you.

In order for you the members to en-

joy the facilities, especially on a Sun-

day, there is a great deal of effort that

goes on behind the scenes. A large

part of that effort is the members who

volunteer to assist with running the

club on Sundays as kitchen staff.

Our pool of trained volunteers has

dwindled over the past six months

meaning that the remaining team has

to perform their scheduled duty on a

more frequent basis. We are a volun-

The next Annual General Meeting

has been scheduled for Sunday, Dec

4th starting at 10:00am. This is a

mandatory requirement as per the

Corporation Act and ALL members

are strongly urged to attend in order

to participate in some key decisions

that will be voted upon.

Not unlike any other AGM, new and

old business items will be presented

and discussed and many voted upon

for concurrence. Since receiving our

Certificate of Incorporation in Feb, it

is vital that these meetings with max-

imum attendance be taken seriously,

so let’s take the time and interest in

your club and make yourself availa-

ble. This is your opportunity to listen

to future aspirations of the club and

suggest any new ideas to help improve

the club’s operation.

The club has created some much

needed momentum in its aspirations

of maintaining its safe, friendly, and

reputable atmosphere. We strongly

encourage all the new members to

attend in order to learn the meeting

format and express any views they

may have.

Several election votes need to take

place as well as some other new busi-

ness. The membership is to be re-

minded again that the DRAFT Consti-

tution and By-Laws have been posted

for a few months now at the club and

on the website that all should have

reviewed in preparation to voting in

at the AGM.

We encourage all new members to

attend as well please.

Thanks.

assistance and equipment to help the

facility looking in tip top shape.

Bill and Matt have to be commended

on their dedication to ensuring the

entire club looks the part of a profes-

sional shotgun sporting range.

So the next time you see Bill or Matt

and you admire the fields and how

trimmed and clean they appear, pass

on your thanks to them as the execu-

tive and entire membership owe them

our gratitude for volunteering to take

Our club has received several compli-

ments from both the membership and

visitors of how good the grounds and

fields look. Their appearance and no-

ticeably clean cut precision can only

be attributed to our volunteer mem-

bers who act as our groundskeepers,

that would be Bill Templeton and

Matt Pomeroy.

Bill has been our field maintenance

man for quite some time and Matt

Pomeroy has recently provided his

care of this task on a regular basis.

Thanks guys, looks great!

tations of targets at a couple of sta-

tions are new. New stations complete

with rubber matting, new hull bins,

and station signs explaining each sta-

tion’s target presentation are in place.

Chris continues his management of

the range and has created a schedule

to deconflict with any statutory holi-

days over the past summer right into

November. Members are comment-

ing with very positive feedback and

are enjoying the regular shooting ses-

sions of sporting clays once again.

Thanks Chris for all your hard work

and dedication. Chris welcomes any

suggestions or ideas.

Well since our new Sporting Clay

director Chris Durham has taken

over, he has done a tremendous job in

getting the sporting clays range in tip

top condition and set up the program.

The trap boys are in place, the sched-

ule running on a regular basis of eve-

ry other Sunday (see website for exact

dates), timings set with max number

of squads and the popularity is grow-

ing. A complete trimming of the

range has been completed and a few
