Course description:With the rapidly aging population and increasing life expectancy of the average older adult, we as a medical profession are facing new problems and challenges in caring for the geriatric patient. This conference will explore how to tackle these “gray” areas in geriatric medicine while still providing the best care for Hawai‘i’s kupuna.

Continuing Education CreditPHYSICIANS: The Queen’s Medical Center is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

The Queen’s Medical Center designates this live activity for a maximum of 7.00 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should only claim the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

NURSES: The Clinical Education Team of The Queen’s Medical Center is an approved provider of continuing education by the Western Multi-State Division, an accredited approver of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

n Assess elderly patients for cancer treatment using a multifaceted approachn Appropriately using the ICU for the end-of-life patient n Evaluate for decisional capacity in patients with dementia n Decide what treatment options are appropriate for the elderly patient with chronic kidney diseasen Tackle common infectious disease conundrums in the geriatric patient n Recognize that sexual activity continues regardless of age and necessitates testing for all STD’s in the older LGBTQ population.n Adopt strategies on how to manage and advise patients requesting physician assisted suicide
