PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS
O God, who wills not the death of a sinner, but rather that he be converted and live, grant we beseech You, through the inter-cession of the Blessed Mary, ever virgin, Saint Joseph, her spouse, Blessed Junipero Serra, and all the saints, an increase of laborers for Your Church, fellow laborers with Christ to spend and consume themselves for souls, through the same Jesus Christ, Your Son, who lives and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God forever and ever.
AMEN
PRAYER FOR THE PERSERVERANCE OF VOCATIONS
O God, You have constituted Your only-begotten Son supreme and eternal Priest for the glory of Your majesty and the salvation of mankind; grant that those whom He has chosen ministers and dispensers of His mysteries may be found faithful in fulfilling the ministry they have received.
AMEN

THE BEST WAY TO INCREASE VOCATIONS?
PRAYER
BILL & NORA GROGAN
17
The Parish of
Our Lady of Charity, Brookhaven
is grateful for the fine work and dedication
of the Serrans, especially the members of
the Del-Chester Serra Club,
and joins them in praying for an increase
in vocations to the Priesthood
and the Consecrated Life.
Reverend Brian A. Izzo, Pastor Reverend Richard C. Williams, In Residence
“Behind and before every vocation to the priesthood or to the conse-
crated life there is always the strong and intense prayer of someone: a
grandmother, a grandfather, a mother, a father, a community. This is
why Jesus said: “Pray therefore the Lord of the harvest”, that is, God
the Father, “to send out labourers into his harvest” (Mt 9:38).
Vocations are born in prayer and from prayer; and only through prayer
can they persevere and bear fruit.

FROM OUR CLUB CHAPLAIN … The Eighth World Meeting of Families will take place in September right
here in Philadelphia. The strength of a nation derives from good homes.
Parents teach children not only who they are but also their future
possibilities. There is no question that the family is in crisis today. Almost
everything that marriage once brought together has been split apart: sex has
been divorced from love, love from commitment, marriage from having
children, and having children from responsibility for their care. All of this
has a profound affect on vocations to the priesthood and religious life. A
stable family produces stable people. A family where there is a living faith
is “like a tree planted beside running water that yields fruit in due
season.” (Psalm 1:3). Priests and Religious can point to those in their lives
who had a profound affect on their decision. These influential people not
only loved God and loved Christ, but they loved the Church. Without this
love for the Church, religious vocations become non-existent. Devout
Catholics foster vocations. Without their knowledge, they are observed by
the young. Grace builds on nature, and God allows His call to be dependent
on the good example of practicing Catholics. We pray that the World
Meeting of Families and the Papal visit will stir the hearts of the young to
follow the Lord more closely.
Welcome to all to our banquet this afternoon, and special thanks to the
active members of the Serra Club who pray and work for more laborers in
the vineyard of the Lord. They often work in an atmosphere of
complacency and indifference. They live out the words of Mother Teresa:
“God does not call us to be successful; He calls us to be faithful.”
Rev. Richard C. Williams, Chaplain, Delchester Serra Club

From our club President… Once again a Pope is coming to our city. What a blessing! Through the World Meeting of Families, Our Holy Father will teach us and pray with us. His visit will bring many graces to those who participate. Serra International and Serra USA will be represented in the Con-vention Center. Please visit our table and invite your family and friends to do the same. Pope Francis has also made 2015 The Year of Consecrated Life. He brings attention to those who serve God through a religious vocation. These men and women may take vows of Poverty, Chastity, and Obedience in their quest to bring souls to the knowledge and love of God. They may dedicate their lives to prayer or work in the missions at home or abroad. Many assist the poor in education and medical care. They carry out the mis-sion of Jesus with kindness and joy as did Saint Mother Teresa. The mission of the Serra Club is to promote, encourage, support, and affirm new vocations to the Priesthood and the Consecrated Religious Life and those already in ministry. The Delchester Serra Club does this by:
Prayer Speaking at schools and Prep programs Awarding certificates to altar servers Sponsoring the Vocation Essay Contest Providing social events to affirm our Priests and other
Religious Providing a level of monetary support for our seminary
and other vocation activities God may be calling you to help us by becoming a member of Ser-ra. Trust Him – say “Yes” and call (610) 876-0709 for more infor-mation. Our club meets on the first Saturday of the month after the 8:00 a.m. mass at Our Lady of Charity in Brookhaven. May God Bless You!

Our prayers go with our
SERVICEMEN & WOMEN
wherever they are throughout the world.
Eternal Father, strong to save, whose arm has bound the restless wave,
Who bids the mighty ocean deep its own appointed limits keep;
O hear us when we raise our plea for those in peril on the sea.
O Christ, the lord of hill and plain, o’er which our traffic runs amain,
By mountain pass or valley low, wherever, Lord, your loved ones go,
Protect them by your guarding hand from every peril on the land.
O Spirit whom the Father sent to spread abroad the firmament;
O wind of heaven, by your might, save all who dare the eagle’s flight,
And keep them by your watchful care from every peril in the air.
O Trinity of love and power, your children’s shield in danger’s hour;
From rock and tempest, fire and foe, protect them where so e’re they go;
And then shall rise with voices free, glad praise from air and land and sea.
AMEN.
