Pope Francis is urging the liturgical formation of the People of God so that they may rediscover the beauty of meeting the Lord in the celebration of His Sacred Mysteries and through a change of heart that seeks life in His name. “We know that it is not enough to change the liturgical books to improve the quality of the liturgy. For life to be truly a praise pleasing to God, it is necessary to change the heart,” Pope Francis told some 80 members of the plenary assembly of the Vatican Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments. “The Christian celebration is oriented towards this conversion, which is the encounter of life with the ‘God of the living’.” The Feb. 12-15 assembly was discussing the liturgical formation of the people of God. Speaking about the challenge of formation, the Pope said one should keep in mind that “liturgy is life that forms, and not an idea to learn”. In liturgical formation, the Pope said, it is important to keep in mind that “reality is more important than idea ”. One needs, first of all, to recognize the reality of the sacred liturgy, which is a living treasure that cannot be reduced to tastes, recipes and currents but must be welcomed with docility and promoted with love, as an irreplaceable nourishment for the organic growth of the People of God. Liturgy, he continued, is not a “do-it-yourself” activity but the “epiphany of ecclesial communion”. Hence, in prayers and gestures, the "we" resounds and not the "I"; the real community, not the ideal subject. In the liturgical formation of the People of God, the Holy Father said, one must keep foremost in mind the “irreplaceable role that liturgy plays in the Church and for the Church.” Then the People of God need to be concretely helped in interiorizing better the prayer of the Church, to love it as an experience of encounter with the Lord and with one's brothers and sisters and, thereafter to rediscover its contents and observe its rites. Since liturgy is an experience aimed at the conversion of life through the assimilation of the Lord's way of thinking and behaving, the Pope said, liturgical formation cannot be limited to simply offering knowledge or even to safeguarding the proper fulfilment of ritual disciplines.
In order for the liturgy to fulfill its formative and transforming function, the Holy Father said, pastors and laity need to be taught to grasp its meaning and symbolic language, including art, song and music in the service of the celebrated mystery.
But things should not stop at that. There is also need for the ongoing formation of clergy and laity, especially those engaged in ministries at the service of the liturgy.

NEED ASSISTANCE TO GAIN (BETTER) EMPLOYMENT?
We are trying to assess the need for a parish ministry focused on Job Seekers and those looking to advance their careers. This would be a free service to help young and old understand the many aspects of a job search such as constructing a resume that aligns with the job description, interviewing techniques, and negotiating a job offer. Dress code, interpersonal skills, how to apply on-line, follow-up techniques, and other aspects of job search are areas we’ll address. If you’re interested and would participate in meetings at church, please call the office and express interest. In the meantime, if you’re involved in a job search and would like some free advice, you can contact Matt Ostrofsky at 405-243-1191 or email [email protected].

Our Sincere Condolences
Our parish family has lost one of its great ones. Retired Colonel Howard “Mac” McLaughlin passed away this week after an extended illness. He has remained linked to us through Holy Communion which was brought to him faithfully by Peggy Denker. He now rejoins his wife Marilyn and many family members and friends who preceded him. His Mass of Christian Burial was on Saturday at 9:30am. We extend our deepest sympathy to his three children, Scott, Suzie, and Lisa and a number of grandchildren.

Moore, OK “In the School of the Holy Spirit” will help you get to know the Sanctifier of your soul. It will lead you to be more attentive to the movements of the Holy Spirit in your life as you learn to love the third person of the Holy Trinity. Fr. Jacques Philippe explains the rewards of being attentive to the Holy Spirit and provides simple and concrete ways to grow in this inner sensitivity. In his clear and simple style, he illustrates his points with many examples from modern life. In the School of the Holy Spirit is a valuable aid in your own spiritual journey.
GRIEF SUPPORT GROUP
Several parishioners have expressed interest in learning about a healthy grieving process. This does not need to be a recent death in the past year or two. It can be a loss from many, many years ago. It often does not take much to stir up memories suddenly with something as simple as a familiar smell or action.
We expect to begin February 24th, meeting between the Sunday Masses @ 10:20am in Room 7 for 6 consecutive sessions. I am accumulating names at the office. We have eight parishioners who have already placed their names on this list. I will contact each one. We need to order workbooks, so the sooner you can call the office, the better. We will purchase books @ $5.95 a copy, but available to participants for whatever donation they choose.
Our facilitator will be Sherry Oliver, a parishioner and a licensed professional counselor. Sherry has been gifted with a special kind of listening and guiding. She has facilitated 5 groups at our parish several years ago. I look forward to receiving your names. We want to walk with each other in our grieving, as sisters and brothers in Christ.
Call the office at 799-3334 and leave a message for Caryl.

DOES GOD STILL HEAL TODAY?
DATE CHANGE THIS MONTH ONLY
Catholics have always been willing to pray for people in need of healing. We’re always happy to say a prayer for someone struggling with some form of suffering. But many church members seem unaware of the spiritual gift of healing that is given to some for the benefit of others. We have such individuals in our parish and they make themselves available in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel following the 5pm Mass on the 23rd of February to pray with and over individuals in need of healing prayer—physical, spiritual, emotional, or relational. If you or someone you know has such a need, just go into the chapel following Mass and our prayer ministry team members will be happy to pray with you.
