PAUL Writing from his prison cell in R o m e , P a u l s e e k s t o challenge false teaching, which had infiltrated the Colossian Church. This heresy later became known as Gnosticism, which denied Christ as God and Saviour. Paul stressed Christ’s deity, sacrificial death and the believer’s role in Christ’s body on earth.
SUPPORT Thank you for supporting St
George’s Church. You can make your donation even more valuable if you use the envelopes provided as we
are able to reclaim the tax on your gift, but only if you fill in the details on the front

‘Lord, teach us to pray’
Sixth Sunday After Trinity 28 July 2019
Genesis 18.20-32 One of a number of passages in the OT where a moral question is resolved not by divine fiat, but by discussion. In this particular case, it is not human moral standards that are under scrutiny, but God’s. God is questioned by Abraham who describes himself as dust and ashes when compared with God.
Colossians 2.6-15 A number of related arguments that coalesce in the matter of uniqueness and all-sufficiency of what God has done in Christ.
Luke 11.1-13 Luke follows the direction of our attention to the primacy of devotion to Christ over action (Mary over Martha) with formal teaching on prayer.
hymnsProcessional: 354 Eternal Father, strong to saveGradual: 397 Let us, with a gladsome mindOffertory:485 Thy hand, O God, has guided Recessional: 478 Ye watchers and ye holy ones
psalm 138I will give thanks to you, O Lord, with my whole heart; before the gods will I sing praise to you.I will bow down towards your holy temple and praise your name, because of your love and faithfulness; for you have glorified your name and your word above all things. In the day that I called to you, you answered me; you put new strength in my soul. All the kings of the earth shall praise you, O Lord, for they have heard the words of your mouth. They shall sing of the ways of the Lord, that great is the glory of the Lord.Though the Lord be high, he watches over the lowly; as for the proud, he regards them from afar. Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you will preserve me; you will stretch forth your hand against the fury of my enemies;your right hand will save me.The Lord shall make good his purpose for me; your loving-kindness, O Lord, endures for ever;forsake not the work of your hands.
