Sixth Annual Advances in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine CME Symposium

Page 2: Sixth Annual Advances in Pulmonary and Critical Care ... · and other healthcare providers involved in the care of patients with pulmonary disease. There will be didactic lectures,

In respiratory medicine, as in other disciplines, the vast and rapid growth of medical knowledge has largely been met with a low uptake to realize improved patient outcomes. The existence of gaps between established scientific evidence and actual care gives rise to the need for dedicated knowledge translation.

This educational program is designed for pulmonologists and other healthcare providers involved in the care of patients with pulmonary disease. There will be didactic lectures, a hands-on breakout session and case discussions. We are privileged to welcome distinguished guest speaker, Dr. Mark T. Dransfield, Medical Director, UAB Lung Health Center and Pulmonary Rehabilitation, Professor of Medicine and William C. Bailey, MD Endowed Chair in Pulmonary Disease, University of Alabama at Birmingham & Birmingham VA Medical Center.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

After attending this educational activity, participants should be able to:

1) Explain criteria and outcomes of bronchoscopic lung volume reduction.2) Describe the clinical, radiographic and pathologic differences in patients with interstitial lung disease.3) Describe the diagnosis and steroid-sparing treatment modalities for patients with sarcoidosis.4) Explain the evidence for and against the use of esophageal balloon manometry in the intensive care unit.5) Compare therapies in the treatment of chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension.6) List ventilator strategies utilized in the care of critically ill patients.7) Describe new ATS/IDSA CAP guidelines.8) List important radiographic findings in the diagnosis of pulmonary diseases.9) Explain the role of lung transplantation in the treatment of interstitial lung disease.
