Presidents Message
Aloha!
Following Jean Ehrhorns great leadership, I look forward to serving this year as your
President. I have selected the theme of Youth Outreach Uncovered or YOU. It is
through YOU that we survive and thrive with interesting meetings, lively interaction and
opportunities for service.
Through YOU and our efforts to reach out to new members with youthful outlooks,
we can ensure the Soroptimists International Foundation of Waikiki, Inc. will serve its
mission. Already through our Teen Dating Violence Awareness programs and our engage-
ment with the Sacred Hearts Academy S-Club, we are making an impact into the lives of
girls and those who support them.
This year, I would like to ask YOU to help attract more members and to continue your own outreach into your
community and family circles to help our Soroptimist club have a fun and productive year. Committee work is a great
way to get involved and have fun so I hope you will engage and get ready for some fun in doing so.
I remember being in my 20s when I first joined the Sorportimist International of Central Oahu back in 1989, and
I was so excited to be accepted into this large organization of professional womens clubs. After all, I was somebody!,
or at least I thought I was! Lets go find more members of all ages, young at heart with hearts full of service to include in
our fun and educational efforts.
On Saturday, July 13th at the Koko Isle Club House between 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., I welcome you to join us for
ourfirst Board meeting and Planning Session, involving all new and outgoing Board members. We need your input, and
we promise that we will have fun in this relaxed setting as we plan for the year ahead.
Warmest aloha,
Carol MarxSIWFI President

Tastes of the Arts is Launched
Chair Sue Bias provides an updated report on the Saturday, August 24, 2013 fundraising event OneNight in Rome, a gala which will be held at the former Dole Ballroom.
The completely renovated venue is now called Pomaikai Gardens, and the event will provide good foodat reasonable prices. The Silent Auction will take place in the same room as the dinner with room for expansion
when needed. Solicitation letters have gone out.
This is the way that we raise money to fund our projects to improve the lives of women and girls. Please
do your part by selling as many tickets as possible and getting lots of silent auction items. Sometimes it is assimple as asking...so please ask...all your friends, business associates, vendors, church family, actually family, even Acquaintances on the bus!
You may bring auction iems to any meeting, and we will happily store them until the big event. Whenyou make ticket sales, please send or turn them in as soon as possible so we can keep a running tally of how we
are doing!
Adoption of Proposed 2013-2014 SIWFI Budget
The Board proposed that an additional portion of the fundraising be given to Soroptimist International ofthe Americas. The SIA Club Campaign amount would be increased from $500 to $2,244 (representing 10% of
net fund raising during the previous year). This higher collaborative effort is consistent with SIWFI's mission.
The proposed budget estimates $36,763 in net income for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2013.
