World Vision Guatemala priorized the attention to 11 communities, to assit 406 damaged families and 435 affected families. The organization identified 95 families evacuated, most of them sheltered in houses of neighbors and relatives. Up to now there is one shelter assisting 3 families, with a total of 27 persons, including 13 children and nine of them are registered in the sponsorship program and participating in projects of World Vision Guatemala. There is a report of 458 houses in risk, 352 with damages but with posibilities of living in them, and 113 destroyed houses. In San José Ojetenam, there is a report of 9 communities with damages and World Vision prioritized the attention to 4 communites, with a register of 34 families evacuated, 89 damaged families and 95 families affected. There are a total of two shelters assisting 111 persons: 53 adults and 58 children. As part of the pre-positioned resources on the ADP, we was able to assist inmediately 211 families in San Pablo, El Tumbador, Nuevo Progreso, San José Ojetenan and Sibinal. About national data, according with the Emergency Operations Centre on the site at Sibinal, San Marcos, there is a report of 36 communities with damages, 678 destroyed houses corresponding to 995 families. 222 houses with minor damage, 216 with moderate damage, 233 with severe damage. World Vision Guatemala priorized the attention to 11 communities, to assit 406 damaged families and 435 affected families. The organization identified 95 families evacuated, most of them sheltered in houses of neighbors and relatives. Up to now there is one shelter assisting 3 families, with a total of 27 persons, including 13 children and nine of them are registered in the sponsorship program and participating in projects of World Vision Guatemala. There is a report of 458 houses in risk, 352 with damages but with posibilities of living in them, and 113 destroyed houses. In San José Ojetenam, there is a report of 9 communities with damages and World Vision prioritized the attention to 4 communites, with a register of 34 families evacuated, 89 damaged families and 95 families affected. thanks to have the pre-positioning resources on the West Zone Office and the ADP in the affected area. It also had the support of pre-qualified suppliers to assist the emergency and this allow to distribute inmediately food rations, kitchen kits, hygiene kits to adults and children, and also distributed blankets benefiting more than 200 families in five most affected municipalities.

Intervention areas

EDAN: Support on doing the Damage Evaluation and Need Analysis, EDAN, in the affected communities. Food security: Delivering humanitarian help with family food rations for a week, with beans, sugar, oil, corn flour, rice and fortified atole. Health: Distributing hygiene kits according for adults and children blankets and kitchen kits to affected families. Children Protection in Emergencies: For this action there are Friendly Spaces for Children, priorizing the psicologic assist for children on the temporary shelters and on relatives houses.

Intervention’s three main objectives

Three main points to sum up the progress from the last report:

• Children Protection is the main goal of World Vision Guatemala, assisting on psicological and spiritual support

• Participation in the Emergency Operations National Centre, organized by CONRED, and in the Emergency Operations Centre on Sibinal and San José Ojetenam supporting actions of the elaboration and processing of EDAN reports

• Distributiona and delivering humanitarian help, food, hygiene and kitchen kits on the communities with WV intervention and the fitting out of Friendly Spaces for Children on the temporary shelters.

Inter-institutional Coordinations • Participation on the National COE organized by CONRED and with the local COLRED.

Participation in the actions of the Humanitarian Country Team (REDHum) leaded by United Nations System.

• Locally, there is coordination with the Woman Municipal Office, Health Ministry and Education Ministry and some churches.

• There is a constant report to Support Offices and Partnership about the taken action with the Situational Reports.

• Up to now, there is no participation with specific clusters. General view of the humanitarian situation Summary of the most recent information about the crisis and the response:

• Impact: Government of Guatemala issued a “Public Calamity State” for San Marcos, Quetzaltenango, Huehuetenango, Sololá, Retalhuleu, Totonicapán and Suchitepéquez, for 30 days according with Gubernatiorial Decree 1-2014.

• Priority needs (on short/long term) / worries - On the short term, local organizations are well organized and the humanitarian institutions are

covering the need of food and shelter.

- There is a worry about people’s health in shelters due to the lack of proper conditions for a long term stay. The weather shiftings are very varied and those could affect the health of children pregnant women and elder people.

- There is also a worry related to migrant children travelling to United States due to San Marcos is a border department with Mexico adding to the situation of losing houses and goods. This could cause a major trafic of children leaving the country.

• There is no report of affected staff. • Inmmediate risks and threats of children and communities’ wellbeing: They are demolishing 1692 houses, most of them on Sibinal, which is a threath to directly affected children’s health and stability. Up to now, there are no sanitary risks. • Media interest level: The coverage has been focused on the government actios and a few institutions. • Geographical affected area: Departaments San Marcos, Quetzaltenango, Huehuetenango, Sololá, Retalhuleu, Totonicapán and Suchitepéquez. • Political situation: stable • Government / UN donor / response / ONG: No, for now. • UN consolidated calling: Theres is no oficial calling for now • Transport and communications infrastructure: stable and there is no blocking in the communities to acces with humanitarian help.

Security Impact on WV staff security

• As a recomendation of the Security Officer, in the emergency time there is a Level of Restriction Medium for travels out of the Worlv Vision Guatemala offices (ON, ZO and ADP in San Marcos). This level of restriction requires that every authorization to visits is issued by Divisional Directors, Zone Managers and ADP Managers.

• Only the esential travel are allowed and those are defined as the necessaty ones to contribute to respond to population needs: Rapid Reponse Teams to verify the affected areas, information gathering on the field during emergencies or desaster situations, support to evacuate and fitting out of temporary shelters; supply humanitarian help such as: food, water, family hygiene kits, mats, blankets. Also those travels of leading staff out of their base and shuld return to coordinate response actions.

Advocacy and Communications • There were an approach to local entrepenours and there is a partnership with the owner of Hotel De Leòn, who allowed space for two store areas to keep the humanitarian help that World Vision and other organization had brought to the municipality of Sibinal. • The Zone Office manager lobbied with the Mayor of Sibinal to guarantee the actions of response could be phocused on children. • Result of the government commitment, UN, groups or donors: No, up to now • Private sectro collaboration: No, up to now • Media impact/ opportunities: working on local and national level. • Marketing and fundraising: working on projects • High profile visitir: There are no request, up to now.
