Server Architecture

The Server Architecture The connection between client and server is established via an encrypted protocol similar to HTTP (TCP/port:8086). The actual SiteRemote Web application (ASP.net/IIS6) runs on Microsoft Windows Server 2003 (Small Business Server is not supported), accessing the Microsoft SQL Server 2000 database. The SiteRemote server process, which was developed using Microsoft .NET Framework, processes all requests submitted by the clients. The Communication Architecture SiteRemote’s communication architecture allows for a constant communication between a SiteKiosk terminal and a SiteRemote server even from behind firewalls without the need for a permanent connection. The SiteKiosk terminals may utilize dynamic IP addresses. A machine establishes a connection to the server at certain intervals and compares its data with the data stored on the server. During this process, the machine informs the server about its current status and receives new jobs from the server. Monitoring machines is also possible when the machines are connected by dial-up (ISDN, modem). SiteRemote Front End For information on SiteRemote’s actual remote management features seen from the perspective of the front end user, please refer to our information brochure available at http://www.siteremote.net/.

Installing The Server

Installation Instructions Please Note: We can not assist you in setting up your own server. You need detailed knowledge about how to set up and configure a Windows 2003 server! Please follow these instructions to allow for a smooth installation of the software: Step 1: Begin by installing Windows Server 2003 and follow the installation instructions provided by this program. Once you have completed the installation, run Windows Update and install all updates available for this product. Step 2: Go to START -> Control Panel -> Add or Remove programs -> Add/Remove Windows Components. Select “Application Server“ and click on “Details“ to install support for ASP.net 1.1. Step 3: Proceed by installing MS SQL Server 2000 including all available updates and service packs. During installation, please select “Win Only” as the authentication mode. When finished with the installation, make sure the SQL server is in working order. Step 4: Now is the time to install the SiteRemote Server software. Licensing / Activation

Requesting And Activating A License Before you can use the SiteRemote Server software, you will have to request and activate a valid PROVISIO certificate (license). If you want to test drive the software, PROVISIO will provide you with a free 30-day test license.

Step 1: During installation, the server generated your personal “public key.” To certify your license, submit this key to PROVISIO. To do so, open the administrator interface in Internet Explorer by selecting Start -> All Programs -> SiteRemote Server or visit :

http://localhost/administration/ http://IP-Address/administration/ Click the “Settings“ tab and press the link “Download public key“ on the next page. Save the file “Siteremote.pub“ to a location on your computer and send it to: [email protected] PROVISIO will then generate a license key code and send it to the e-mail address you provided. As this needs to be done by a member of our staff, we are unable to generate the code outside of our business hours. As a result, the code generation may take a while. Step 2: After PROVISIO has sent you the license code you requested as “companyname.license”, press the “Upload” button to upload this file to the same location under “Settings->License Data.“ When uploading the license file is completed successfully, its status will change to green and read: License file already uploaded.
