I. INFORMACIÓN GENERAL DEL CURSO
A. Descripción del curso
Estudio sociológico sobre la etiología de la conducta criminal. Este curso enfatiza el análisis
del fenómeno criminal, basándose en las teorías sociológicas y criminológicas del crimen. Se
analizan los efectos individuales y colectivos de la criminalidad. Los estudiantes elaborarán
propuestas y discutirán la política pública relacionada a la prevención intervención y
tratamiento del crimen a nivel mundial.
B. Objetivos de contenido
Al finalizar el curso, el estudiante será capaz de
1. Conocer las aportaciones teóricas y conceptuales que la Sociología le ha legado a la
Criminología, en su manifestación como Sociología Criminal, en relación a la definición de
conceptos, tales como: desviación social, delito, control social.
2. Aplicar la perspectiva sociológica en el análisis del contexto social que enmarca el
comportamiento desviado y el crimen.
3. Conocer y aplicar las teorías sociológicas que giran en torno al comportamiento desviado y a la
criminalidad de forma tal que logre diferenciar entre ambos estilos de comportamiento.
4. Realizar un análisis crítico sobre las causas sociales del comportamiento desviado y del
comportamiento criminal.
5. Valorizar la importancia de desarrollar programas público y privados encaminados a la
prevención del comportamiento desviado, la delincuencia y el crimen.
6. Comprender la naturaleza del fenómeno de la desviación a la luz de las principales teorías de la
sociología y de la sociología criminal.

7. Conocer las principales teorías y sus autores, así como los conceptos básicos de la sociología,
del comportamiento desviado y de la sociología criminal.
8. Conocer la complejidad y diversidad del fenómeno criminal en un mundo global.
9. Valorizar y respetar las instituciones de ley y orden, la existencia de normas de control social y
las estrategias para la prevención y el tratamiento del comportamiento desviado y de la
criminalidad.
10. Participar en formular política pública que proteja la diversidad entre los seres humanos así
como sus derechos humanos, civiles y políticos.
11. Analizar el impacto de la globalización en el aumento y la diversificación de las actividades
criminales al presente tales como: crímenes de cuello blanco, robo de identidad, trata humana,
utilización de las redes sociales para delinquir.
C. Objetivos de lenguaje
Al finalizar el curso, el estudiante será capaz de
1. Comprender discursos orales, en inglés/español, y reconocer sus diversas finalidades y las
situaciones de comunicación en que se producen; compartir, comparar y desarrollar ideas nuevas
acerca de La Prevención Y Los Aspectos Sociológicos de la Conducta Criminal de manera
colaborativa; adquirir aprendizajes significativos, basados en la experiencia y en temas
motivadores; responder a estímulos auditivos tales como vídeos, presentaciones audiovisuales y
actividades interactivas.
2. Expresarse oralmente, en inglés/español, con propiedad y corrección, de acuerdo con las diversas
finalidades y situaciones comunicativas y adoptando un estilo expresivo propio; analizar, opinar
y comunicar oralmente puntos de vista e ideas; desarrollar habilidades y competencias que lo
capaciten para su vida académica, laboral y cotidiana; utilizar el lenguaje para adquirir
conocimientos nuevos acerca de La Prevención Y Los Aspectos Sociológicos de la Conducta

I. GENERAL COURSE INFORMATION
A. Course Description
This course explores the sociological study on the etiology of criminal conduct. This course
emphasizes on the analysis of criminal phenomenon, based on sociological and
criminological theories of crime. The individual and collective effects of criminality are
analyzed. Students will develop proposals and discuss public policy related to prevention
intervention and treatment of crime worldwide.
B. Content Objectives
Upon completing this course, the student will be able to:
1. Recognize the theoretical and conceptual contributions that Sociology has provided to
Criminology, in its manifestation as Criminal Sociology, in relation to the definition of
concepts, such as: social deviance, crime and social control.
2. Apply the sociological perspective in the analysis of the social context that frames deviant
behavior and crime.
3. Identify and apply the sociological theories that revolve around deviant behavior and
criminality in such a way that they can differentiate between both behavioral styles.
4. Perform a critical analysis of the social causes of deviant behavior and criminal behavior.
5. Value the importance of developing public and private programs aimed at preventing
deviant behavior and crime.
6. Understand the nature of the deviation phenomenon in light of the main theories of
sociology and criminal sociology.
7. Discern the main theories and their authors, as well as the basic concepts of sociology,
deviant behavior and criminal sociology.

8. Familiarize with the complexity and diversity of the criminal phenomenon in a global
world.
9. Value and respect the institutions of law and order, the existence of norms of social control
and strategies for the prevention and treatment of deviant behavior and criminality.
10. Participate in formulating public policy that protects diversity among human beings as well
as their human, civil and political rights.
11. Analyze the impact of globalization as a factor increasing and diversifying criminal
activities in the present such as white-collar crimes, identity theft, human trafficking, and
use of social networks to commit crimes.
C. Language Objectives
Upon completing this course, the student will be able to
1. Understand oral discussions in English/Spanish and recognize their different purposes and the
communication settings in which they are produced. In addition, share, compare, and develop
new ideas about Crime Prevention and Sociological Aspect of Criminal Conduct in a collaborative
manner; acquire significant knowledge supported by experiences and motivational topics;
respond to auditory stimuli such as videos, audiovisual presentations and interactive activities.
2. Express him/herself in English/Spanish correctly and coherently for a variety of purposes and in
a variety of communication settings, adopting a personal style of expression; analyze, express
opinions, and communicate orally different point of views and ideas. In addition, develop
abilities and skills that will prepare him/her for academic, daily life and the workplace; use

3. Los estudiantes se dividirán en subgrupos no mayor de cuatro personas (4) y
nombrarán un líder donde estos:
a. Para el taller dos y el taller tres trabajarán en el salón de clases en la creación de una
investigación.
b. Trabajo final: Los estudiantes entregarán un borrador del trabajo escrito en el cuarto
taller y en el quinto taller harán su presentación oral sobre el tema asignado y
entregarán el trabajo final sobre: Posibles soluciones a la prevención del crimen
(propuesta).
4. El facilitador(a) creará una lluvia de ideas con los temas relacionados al taller 1, donde
el estudiante aportará activamente a los temas asignados y de ser necesario aclarará
dudas que existan sobre el material. Se tocarán los temas de: sociología, sociología de
la desviación, sociología criminal, sociología forense. Se creará un debate en el salón
de clases sobre el tema asignado en el primer taller de los fundamentos de la teoría de
la desviación social conforme a las diferentes escuelas.
5. El Facilitador(a) podrá aclarar las dudas relacionadas con las tareas a completar antes
del próximo taller. Importante verificar siempre las tareas y actividades sugeridas para
el próximo taller para proceder con los arreglos que sean necesarios.
6. Antes de finalizar el taller, el/la estudiante debe completar y entregar el documento de
Assessment/Avalúo.
7. Toda tarea, evidencia de evaluación u otros documentos trabajados en el curso deberán
estar presentes en el portafolio, luego de haber sido corregidos por el/la Facilitador/a.

Upon completion of this workshop, the student will be able to

2. Distinguish between various theories of social deviation and crime prevention.
3. Understand the underlying factors of social deviation.
4. Analyze how social deviation affects a society.

1. Conduct research on the various theories of social deviation and crime prevention.
2. Create a graphic organizer comparing the distinct theories of social deviation and crime
prevention.
3. Write a 2-page essay describing your understanding of social deviation. Then, explain how
that understanding has progressed through your research.

4. Based on your research on Social Deviation Theories, begin formulating ideas for solutions
to crime prevention issues currently facing our society.
D. Activities during the Workshop
1. The facilitator will guide a discussion on the different social deviation theories and how
they apply to the prevention of crime.
2. Students will form groups of three and each group will choose a different theory on
Social Deviation to briefly present to the rest of the class. Students should refer to the
text Sociological Theory as a primary source.
3. The facilitator and the students will participate in a discussion on the genetic,
psychological, and social factors that lead to social deviation—both individually and
collectively in a society.
4. The facilitator will assign students in groups to collaborate for the assignments of the
course. In preparation for the coming assignment on the scientific method, the facilitator
will prompt students to consider possible hypotheses on social deviation or crime
prevention, which can be tested through the scientific method.

1. Enumerar los pasos a seguir en el proceso de método científico.
2. Aplicar los métodos científicos en las Ciencias Sociales con la creación de una técnica de
investigación (ejemplos: entrevista, encuesta, observación).
3. Aplicar las teorías de desviación social y prevención del crimen.
4. Identificar posibles soluciones en la prevención de la criminalidad.
5. Analizar los factores y teorías biogenéticos, psicológico, psicosociológico y sociológicos
de la desviación social.

2. Por medio del primer paso del método científico, fenómenos actuales y fenómenos
previamente conocidos relacionados estrictamente al tema de la prevención del
crimen, el estudiante creará 4 preguntas a ser enviadas por la plataforma de tareas
del Blackboard y las llevará impresas al tercer taller.
3. Repasará las teorías de desviación social y prevención del crimen para su uso en el
salón de clase. Prepare un bosquejo escrito y llévelo a clase.
4. El estudiante, utilizando la herramienta de Blackboard, entrará al icono nombrado
Foro de Discusión y participará en la discusión sobre el análisis de los factores y
teorías biogenéticos, psicológico, psicosociológico y sociológicos de la desviación
social.
D. Actividades durante el taller
1. El Facilitador comenzará con un resumen de lo aprendido en la clase pasada con la
ayuda del grupo utilizando preguntas guías que los ayude a identificar si existen dudas
sobre el primer material estudiado en clase.
2. El facilitador escribirá en la pizarra o proyección de computadora los pasos del método
científico según lo encontrado por los estudiantes y de ser necesario corregirá cualquier
paso.
3. Los estudiantes realizarán un ejercicio en el salón de clase donde intercambiarán las
preguntas que redactaron individualmente entre los miembros de su grupo asignados en
el taller dos.
4. El grupo utilizará estas preguntas individuales para crear una encuesta en el salón.
5. El facilitador corregirá de ser necesario el modelo de la encuesta propuesta.

1. The student will review the theories on social deviation and crime prevention.
2. The student will review the scientific method.
3. The student will conduct research on sociological studies that have employed the use of the
scientific method.
4. The student will write a 2-page essay describing some of the modern issues with crime
prevention using APA style. The student must submit the draft to NetTutor for feedback.
The feedback provided will be used to make corrections if needed. Bring to class.
5. The student will find a current event article on crime prevention and analyze it through the
scope of one of the main theories on social deviance or crime prevention, previously
emphasized in the first workshop.
E. Activities during the Workshop
1. The facilitator will review the process of the scientific method by revising the survey
questions assigned to each group.
2. Each group of students will use their individual questions to conduct a survey in the
classroom, using all subjects including the facilitator.
3. Students will begin organizing the results of their surveys in charts and tables in order to
be presented in the following workshop.
4. The facilitator will go over the students’ findings on sociological studies so they can
use as a guideline for organizing the results of their own surveys.

taller 2. Cada grupo presentará frente a la clase los resultados de sus encuestas y el resto
de la clase reaccionará a los mismos.
3. Cada grupo, mediante sus resultados y las opiniones recopiladas en su presentación,
crearán posibles soluciones en la prevención del crimen.
4. Los estudiantes presentarán el resultado de sus posibles soluciones.
5. Los estudiantes discutirán la relevancia del video o noticia que compartieron con la

4. Write a 2-page essay describing the benefits and drawbacks of globalization from the
perspective of a sociologist and criminologist. In this essay, discuss how social media can

1. The facilitator will discuss the evolution of criminal activity as technology has
progressed.
2. The facilitator will ask students to exchange the tables created with the crime statistics
and policies comparison of various countries. Each student will provide feedback to
his/her classmate. A class discussion will follow.
3. The class will be divided into two groups. Each group will elect a representative to
debate either the benefits or drawbacks of globalization and technological progress for

2. Students will prepare for the final exam to be administered in the final workshop. The final
exam will evaluate the students’ ability to analyze the current state of crime prevention
through the scope of the various theories on social deviance and crime prevention discussed
throughout the course.
G. Activities during the Workshop
1. In groups, students will present their final assignment on possible solutions for crime
prevention.
2. Students will formally discuss the recommendations in a series of oral reports and any
possible additional recommendations that may arise from the discussion.
