The SIPROTEC® 7SA6 dis-

tance protection relay is a

universal device for protec-

tion, control and automa-

tion on the basis of the

SIPROTEC 4 system. Its

high level of flexibility

means it can be implement-

ed at all voltage levels. With

this device, you are ideally

equipped for the future: it

offers security of invest-

ment and also saves on op-

erating costs.

SIPROTEC 7SA6 Distance Protection – protecting, controlling and automatingat all voltage levels between 5 kV and 500 kV

This is facilitated by thefollowing features:• Tested protection modules

assure maximum safety• Uniform operator software

(DIGSI® 4) for all SIPROTECdevices saves on trainingcosts

• Clearly laid out measured-value display saves onexternal measuringinstruments

• DIGSI 4 start-up aids speedup commissioning

• Integrated control unitsaves space and money

• Flexible communicationmodules permit the use oftoday's and future protocolstandards and give yousecurity of investment

• Service interface fortelecommunication reducesmaintenance and operatingcosts

Optimum protection atall voltage levels between5 kV and 500 kV

As a universal protection de-vice, the SIPROTEC 7SA6 dis-tance protection relay can beimplemented at all voltagelevels. Proven and 100% type-tested function packages areavailable for various appli-cation areas in resonant-earthed, isolated-neutral orearthed-neutral systems.

The distance protection func-tion can be implemented withdifferent pickup methods thatare specifically tailored to thevarious operating conditions. You can choose between:• Overcurrent pickup• Voltage and current-

dependent pickup• Voltage, current and phase-

angle-dependent pickup• Impedance pickup

Each pickup method assuresa particularly high degree ofprotection selectivity, sinceimpedance measurement ispossible in up to 6 measuringloops simultaneously. Further-more, SIPROTEC 7SA6 offersmany more functions for com-prehensive feeder protectionand uncomplicated operation.

Automating a sub-station – simple, like inindustry

Even the basic variant of theSIPROTEC 7SA6 distance pro-tection relay includes extre-mely flexible programmablelogics. This permits:• Interlocking check for the

control unit / breaker• Additional protective circuits

to protection functions• Processing of measured

values with defined limitingvalues

With the aid of the CFC editor, familiar from the world ofSIMATIC industrial automati-on, the flexible opportunitiesoffered by the logic can beexploited to the full. With full-graphics interface support andwithout any programmingknowledge, the logic swit-ching elements can be selec-ted from a program library andconnected up on the PC. Aningenious consistency checkassures an error-free configu-ration result and reliable ope-ration.

A family of Devices – for any application– for any installation location

More than 30,000 digital

distance protection

devices are already in use

SIPROTEC 7SA6, the digitaldistance protection family wi-th control unit, is the logicalenhancement of the 7SA5 di-stance protection devices, thousands of which are in use.

More than 20 years of experi-ence in the development andproduction of digital protectionand control equipment havebeen incorporated into theconcept of the new family ofdevices. Powerful 32-bitmicroprocessor systemsenable us today to integratenumber-crunchingprotection algo-rithms and pre-cise controltechnology inone device.

Switchgear control fromremote of locally

The SIPROTEC 7SA6 distanceprotection relay enables thebreaker in the feeder to becontrolled directly, taking therespective interlocking condi-tions into account.

Particularly clear control ismade possible by those de-vices with a graphic displayfor displaying the feeder mim-ic diagram, colored controlkeys and 2 key switches. Thefeeder mimic diagram can beeasily designed and specificto the application with the aidof the PC program DIGSI 4.

Those devices with a 4-linedisplay also offer menu-drivencontrol. All device variants canbe integrated into the remote-control concepts of SCADAand protection systems. WithSIPROTEC 7SA6, control com-mands are executed reliablyand system faults cleared upquickly and selectively at alltimes.

DIGSI 4 – the uniform PCprogram for user-friendlyoperation of allSIPROTEC 4 devices

DIGSI stands for convenientand user-friendly parameteri-zation and operation of digitalprotection equipment.

• Each window contains theinformation that is reallynecessary – irrespective ofthe device you are in theprocess of configuring.

• Context-sensitive menusfor every situation offer youtailored functionality –there's no longer any needfor complex searchesthrough menu hierarchies.

• A matrix makes I/Oconfiguration transparent. You can set up connectionsright through to the controland protection system withjust a single click of themouse.Easy-to-use start-up aidsoffer safety and savemoney.

Retrofittable communicationmodules are available for allSIPROTEC 7SA6 distance pro-tection devices. This meansyou can and will be able tosatisfy today's and futurerequirements of differentcommunications protocols. Atthe same time, absolutely allSIPROTEC devices can beoperated via modem and/orstar coupler and communicatewith higher-level control andprotection systems such asSICAM.

Open communicationstandards

Communication by IEC proto-col and PROFIBUS: the inter-national, standardized inter-face defined in IEC 60870-5-103 has proven itself as anopen communications stand-ard for connecting protectionequipment from different ven-dors. Alternatively, other formsof fieldbus interfacing, viaPROFIBUS or other protocols, are also available withSIPROTEC 4 – widely imple-mented standards, particularlyin the fields of control andprotection systems and auto-mation engineering.

Measurement and testingfunctions

Integrated in the SIPROTEC7SA6 distance protection relayare a large number of meas-urement and testing functionsfor commissioning and opera-tional measurements.

In addition to the usual meas-ured values taken for operatingcurrents, voltages and power, the equipment now also offersmin./max. values, demand val-ues and energy metering.
