PRESS RELEASE
GTR Asia Trade & Treasury Week Welcomes Over 1,000 Industry Experts
Global Trade Review (GTR) welcomed delegates from fintech, treasury, supply chain, trade and project finance industries to Marina Bay Sands, Singapore, on September 5-8.
Building on its reputation as the world’s largest and most popular trade finance and treasury gathering anywhere in the world, the conference gathered over 1000 delegates, 100 speakers and 60 sponsors & partners, providing an effective and impartial marketplace for all involved in trade, treasury, commodity, project and export finance.
Decision makers within the market convened to receive a macroeconomic assessment of Asian trade, including financial and economic trends and scenarios, conflicts and geopolitical priorities, plus updates on digitisation, infrastructure and new technologies across the financial sector.
New to this year’s event was a Fintech showcase, addressing the innovators’ view on how to conduct fintech business in Asia, plus industry perspectives on digital disruption and its impact on trade, export and commodity finance. An interactive classroom-style breakout group, separating attendees into interactive brainstorming groups on topics including trade and commodities, regulatory and financial crime also featured, as well as a special corporate treasury workshop stream.
Muti-formatted streams allowed attendees to tailor their own agenda with themes including:
• Trade and commodity finance
• Supply chain finance
• Export and project finance
• Regional trade focus
The trade and commodity finance stream featured Bernard Wee, Executive Director of Financial Markets Development, FinTech & Innovation of Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), who discussed Singapore’s digitisation journey, how the Singapore government is working to digitise trade and how to foster infrastructure and new technologies across the financial sector.
In addition, Asian Development Bank (ADB) launched their results of the 2017 ADB Financial Gaps Survey, followed by a Q&A between ADB, Standard Chartered, Khan Bank, World Trade Organisation and Lloyds Bank. Later in the day, C-level executives from Olam International, ICICI Bank, Engie and RCMA Commodities took to the stage to discuss the commodity rebound from an industry perspective.
The export and project finance session featured an update on the Belt & Road Initiative and later discussions examined many additional projects being undertaken across a range of sectors including roads, rails, ports and airports and considered where the best opportunities are to be found.
Speakers in the regional trade focus session delved deeper into the trade landscapes of specific markets including Vietnam, India Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Africa.
Concluding the four-day event was a two-day GTR Training Documentary Credits Masterclass, led by John Turnbull, Director at Certis International and senior banker and trade financier. The masterclass provided a key resource for delegates needing a practical and interactive analysis of regulation, practice and risk in international trade and documentary credits.
Officially celebrating its 9th year, attendance figures broke all previous records, with over 1000 delegates attending, confirming GTR Asia Trade & Treasury Week as the essential place to be for anyone involved in international trade and treasury.
