Green ICT - Why green data centres?

> Why do data centres need to go green?ICT is responsible for 2% of global carbon footprint and is likely to increase.

Of these 2%, 25% are contributed by DCsAdoption of green practices can reduce DC energy use by 55%

This translates into potential annual savings of US$5.1 billion in electricity costs for the US industry alone*

> What is a green data centre? One that adopts green strategies in the different aspects of itsoperations such as

process management, energy efficiency and equipment life cycle (from procurement to disposal)

*Report to Congress on Data Centre and Server Energy Efficiency, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Aug 2007
