An SGA Community Engagement Committee, headed by SGA Exec Board member and Captain Jurong Country Club, Mr Ross Tan, was formed to study how SGA could engage
the community to better promote and develop golf.
The CEC actively worked with Ministry of Education to seek ways on how to place golf as a sport to be adopted under the “Sports for Schools” programme. It also worked with various SGA Ordinary Members on how to support this initiative. The initiatives being developed are planned to come on line in FY2016.
The practice of offering complimentary flights to SGA Ordinary Members hosting SGA tournaments was established in 2006. This privilege allows those who host our tournaments
to receive two flights per day from other Ordinary Members for the duration of the event. This practice continued in FY2014 and helped lightened the task of our Members hosting SGA events.
The SGA Centralised Handicapping System project to streamline our current handicap process was started this year. This new system will track all golfers who play on any of the golf
courses in Singapore. Scores can be posted either by the clubs or individually by golfers through club terminals or via the internet. At the end of each month, the system will compute the data centrally and distribute the relevant handicap scoring data to all SGA Members’ Handicap Committees to enable them to carry out their Handicap Committee’s responsibilities. The system will come on line in FY2016.
As part of SGA’s effort to encourage the development of junior golf programmes, subsidies ranging from S$4,000 to S$8,000 were disbursed to our Ordinary Members in FY2014.
Higher subsidies were given to those with programmes that are open to non-members to serve as incentives for our Ordinary Members to make their facilities available to non-members.
