Singapore exchange trip reflection
This June, six students from DGS
took part in a 9-day Singapore exchange
programme at the Convent of Holy
Infant Jesus (CHIJ), and I am honored
and privileged to have been one of
them. The trip has been a very
enjoyable one, and I’m sure that we all
have learnt a lot.
During my stay as a guest, one of the most important things that I learnt is the
art of striking a balance between courtesy and passion. My host family was really
hospitable and I couldn’t ask for a better host. Staying with my buddy Felicia and her
family has been such a pleasant and fun experience. Have I mentioned that Felicia
has three sisters? Life was never quiet with five girls running around in the house!
I think that one of the most unforgettable things of this exchange programme is
the food. Everything I tasted was delicious – be it the Indian prata, or the hawker
store’s fried turnip cake. I must admit that I’m a bit envious of the girls at CHIJ for
their canteen. Unlike DGS, different classes in CHIJ
have different recess and ‘end of school’ times each
day. The 40-minute recess allows students to buy
refreshments from the seven school canteen stalls at
a friendly price. You’ll be amazed at the large variety
of snacks, drinks and light meals provided!

To me, the most memorable day of the trip was probably the day before we left
Singapore, which was 4th July, Friday.
It was my birthday that day and Felicia
arranged a surprise birthday party for
me! Not only did she bring along a
chocolate birthday cake to school, we
also had a lot of fun after school
celebrating at Wild Wild Wet, a water
park. My classmates and newly-made
friends were very kind; I received
more presents than I could wish for. It
was such a happy surprise! Some of my
classmates from CHIJ (and DGS exchange
students) even came along to Wild Wild
Wet despite all their schoolwork and
ECAs. I am definitely the luckiest girl in
the world to have the opportunity to
meet everyone, and I cannot thank them
all enough!
All in all, I must thank Mrs Lau, Mrs
Tay, Ms Leung and everyone else for making this exchange programme possible. I will
never forget this week that I spent in Singapore as an exchange student. Thank you!
