Singapore’s amous skyline has taken on variouschanges over the decades, but none has beenas dramatic or controversial as the emergence o the Esplanade complex, which ocially openedin 2002. The idea or an integrated arts centre inSingapore was proposed way back in the 1970s,but the project’s radical architecture was onlyunveiled in 1994, with work beginning in 1996.

Currently, the S $ 600 million dollar project nowoccupies six hectares o waterront land along theMarina Bay to the east o Padang, and oers aconcert hall, theater, recitals and studio theater,a spacious gallery space and an auditorium. The Esplanade Mall that around it includes alsothe library@esplanade on the third foor, makingEsplanade – Theatres on the Bay, a giganticcultural landmark.

With such unique architecture, discussion is still

rie with regard to the two spiked ‘shells’ o theEsplanade building that you can see rom aar.Said to have an appearance similar the eye o a fyor a giant durian (a popular local ruit), you’ll justhave to make a visit down to The Esplanade anddecide or yoursel.
