INTRODUCTIONy The concept of wireless power transfer (WPT)has been
around since the mid 17th century. The Founder of AC
Electricity ,NIKOLAS TESLA,was first to conductexperiments dealing with WPT.
y The term WPT states to transfer electrical power froma source to a device without aid of wires.
yThe three main systems used for WPT areMICROWAVES,SOLARCELLS,RESONANCE.

DEFINITIONS OF THREE TYPESy MICROWAVES:
Microwaves would be used to sendelectromagnetic radiation from a power source to areciever in an electrical device.
y SOLARCELLS:
Solarcells, ideally, would use a satellite in space tocapture the suns energy and send the energy back to earth.
y RESONANCE:The concept of resonance causes electromagnetic
radiation at certain frequencies to cause an object to vibrate

Solar Power from Satellitesy 1968s idea for Solar Power Satellites proposed by Peter
Glasery Would use microwaves to transmit power to Earth from
Solar Powered Satellites
y Idea gained momentum during the Oil Crises of 1970s,but after prices stabilized idea was droppedy US Department of Energy research program 1978-1981

Rectenna
An antenna comprising a mesh of dipoles and diodes for
absorbing microwave energy from a transmitter andconverting it into electric power.
yMicrowaves are received with about 85%efficiency
yAround 5km across (3.1 miles)
y95% of the beam will fall on the rectenna

Conclusionsy More reliable than ground based solar power
y In order for SPS to become a reality it several things
have to happen:y Government support
y Cheaper launch prices
y Involvement of the private sector
