KARACHI - The Sindh Assembly on Monday unanimously passed the Sukkur Institute of Business Administration (IBA) University 2017 bill.

The bill was tabled by Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Mr Nisar Ahmed Khuhro. He said that Sukkur IBA Sukkur was associated with IBA Karachi from 1994 to 2006 and later became an independent degree awarding institute. The Institute maintained high quality in its teaching and research. He further said

that this bill was aimed at giving this institute the status of a university and offer greater education and research opportunities to students in various field of

studies including business and management. The bill was passed clause by clause. The bill allowed Sukkur IBA University to award and confer degrees, diplomas, certificates and other academic distinctions. It could also confer honorary degrees or other distinctions on approved persons in manner prescribed. Bill

further suggest that university will consist of a chancellor, vice chancellor, deans, principals, directors and chairmen of teaching departments. An eight-member syndicate would also be established that shall act as executive body of university and exercise general supervision over affairs and management of the university. It would meet once each quarter. The university would have faculties of management sciences, science and information technology, engineering and technology, economics, agriculture business, education, mathematics and related studies, law, natural sciences and faculty of allied sciences as may be prescribed by statutes.

Dr. Sher Muhammad gave him Sukkur IBA brief that was followed by a campus tour where he visited the institute facilities. Mr. Bhutto took keen interest in various initiatives of the institute and showed his determination to support Sukkur IBA in future endeavors.

Alumni Society with support of Career Development Center (CDC) at Sukkur IBA organized a ‘Job Fair 2017’ in which more than 35 national and multinational companies participated to recruit the final year/graduating students of the institute. The event was initiated by the CDC with the goal to provide best pool of human resources to participating organizations in the fields of Business Administration, Computer Science, Engineering, Education and Mathematics. Being located at Sukkur, the institute possesses an advantage of fulfilling academic needs of students from diverse backgrounds, i.e. from Sindh, Punjab and Baluchistan. Students from all department participated and cast their votes to the favorite panel. Two teams that contested the elections included Team Knight and Team Merit. The results of the voting were exciting in which Team Merit got 468 votes by making Team Knights winner with 735 votes.

19th All Pakistan Inter-University Declamation Contest 2017Public Speaking and Literary Society (PSLS) of Sukkur IBA organized the University-Level Round of HEC sponsored 19th All Pakistan Inter-University Declamation Contest for Award of Allama Iqbal Shield. The contest was Bilingual-English and Urdu. The winners of Urdu Language contestants included: 1st Position, Mr. Inamullah of BBA II; 2nd Position Mr. Abrar of BBA VIII; and 3rd Position Ms. Ayesha Badar of BBA IV. He said that he has always worked for betterment of the community. During his speech, Mr. Baloch said that “These accomplishments would not have been possible without the guidance and support from Prof. Nisar Ahmed Siddique”. Mr. Mahesh Ahuja, IT Consultant, TESP (Tertiary Education Support Program) visited Sukkur IBA to carry out survey to measure the value of IT System being used at Sukkur IBA with the support of HEC. The purpose of this survey was to assess the Value of IT Investments made by HEC in various higher educational institutes of Pakistan. At the moment, Sukkur IBA is using multiple IT related services with the support of HE which include Campus Management System, Digital Library, Video Conference Set-up, Microsoft Education Alliance and Pakistan Education Research Network (PERN).

An orientation ceremony for the Talent Hunt Program (HTP) and Foundation Semester, 2017 was organized at Sukkur IBA with the aim to familiarize the newly-enrolled students about policies, procedures and various departments of the institute. Another milestone achieved by Sukkur IBA Testing Service (STS) by conducting Entrance Test Exam of the Intermediate Pre-medical students for admissions in Khairpur Medical College (KMC) on 19 February, 2017 at Sukkur IBA campus. More than 3000 candidates from across Sindh appeared in the test. Keeping in view security conditions, extra measures were taken by the management and test was conducted smoothly and safely. STS is a subsidiary of Sukkur IBA which helps organizations in conducting their academic and recruitment tests. It has successfully conducted scores of tests for various institutions.

PhD thesis defense of Mr. Aneel Kumar, the first PhD scholar of the institute took place in which he presented his research work in front of the research committee. Mr. Faisal Imtiaz, HR Specialist, Talent & Employer Well-being, Coca Cola Beverages Pakistan Limited (CCBPL) held a session with graduating students of Sukkur IBA on CV writing, job interview and employability skills. Faisal shared the common mistakes that most of the fresh graduates make while preparing their resume and advised them how to avoid them. He told all students some basic

The purpose of the event was to spread the message of taking care of plants and to sensitize Sukkur IBA Community on the social and spiritual importance of plants. It is a part of Plantation Campaign of Green Pakistan Program, 2017. Students, faculty and staff members participated in the event and wrote comments about plantation.

4th Convocation Ceremony for entire graduating students of institute took place at Sukkur IBA. Honorable Jam Mehtab A. Dahar, Minister Education, Sindh Government and Chairman Higher Education Commission (HEC), Dr. Muktar Ahmed, were present as chief guests of the event. A total of 240 graduates were awarded with degrees in Business Administration, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science & Software Engineering and Education. 4th Convocation 2017 Organized to Confer Degrees to theGraduating Students

Department of Computer Science and Department of Mathematics at Sukkur IBA organized 1st International Conference on Computing and Mathematical Sciences (ICCMS, 2017). The theme of the ICCMS was “Invent, Innovate, and Integrate for Socioeconomic Development”. Specifically, the conference focused on all areas of Computer Science and Mathematics. Researchers from numerous countries including USA, UK, Italy, Korea, Malaysia, Oman, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Sudan submitted 143 papers covering various domains of computing and mathematics. A total of 66 papers are accepted for presentation and publication in the conference proceedings after a comprehensive. It was a 2-day event comprising keynote speeches, parallel sessions and pre-and post-conference workshops.

Fulbright Scholarship has been announced. In this connection US Education Foundation (USEF) in collaboration with Career Development Center organized a Fulbright/GRE Mock Test on Friday, February 24th, 2017 at Sukkur IBA. More than 200 students, alumni, faculty and staff members of the institute

participated in the mock test. Top 5 Mock test performers who secure scored above 300 marks were awarded free GRE vouchers – each worth $195. This full-length Mock Test was intended to simulate the real GRE International experience for the people interested in Fulbright Scholarship Program.

An awareness Seminar on “China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC)” was organized in collaboration with Commissioner Office Sukkur and Sukkur IBA in which students and faculty members of Sukkur IBA delivered speeches and presentations. The seminar was hosted by Dr. Waqar Akram, Associate Professor in Business Administration, Sukkur IBA. In his opening speech, Dean and Director Sukkur IBA, Prof. Nisar Ahmed Siddiqui, highlighted the important aspects of the CPEC project in the context of the economy of Pakistan. The purpose of the session was to increase student knowledge about ACCA qualifications, their benefits in professional career in Pakistan and their scope throughout the globe. Ms. Almas also shared global trends in finance and accountancy career along with survey results from ACCA family worldwide who shared their experiences and aspirations for future. Mr. Khurram shed light on the basics of ACCA along with key competencies and ACCA qualifications procedure.

Sukkur IBA Participates 4th Dean and DirectorsConference, 2017Sukkur IBA participated in ‘NBEAC-HEC 4th International Deans and Directors Conference held from 07th - 08th February, 2017 at Serena Hotel, Islamabad. This year the conference theme was “Business Education and its Context: Points of Convergence and Divergence”. The strategic level conference provided a platform to the heads of business schools, faculty members and industry professionals to work together for better linkages. Dean and Director Sukkur IBA, Prof. Nisar Ahmed Siddiqui; HoD Business Administration, Prof. Dr. Niaz A Bhutto; Prof. Dr. Azhar Sarwar (Marketing); and Dr. Khalil A Channa (HRM) represented the institute in this conference. Prof. Dr. Niaz A Bhutto also led two panel discussions, one on “Design and

Accreditation of Non-Standard Business Degrees & Joint Programs, i.e. Engineering Management, Health Management, Agri-Business, etc.” and second on “Enhancing Quality through Institutional Collaboration and Alliances”.

Electrical Engineering Department at Sukkur IBA organized a one-day Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Workshop on “Overview of Energy Efficiency in Pakistan and Industrial Energy Audit", as a Licensed Professional Engineering Body (PEB) and as per the requirements of Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC). This one-day workshop was conducted by Engr. Asad Mehmood from National Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (NEECA), Islamabad. This workshop offered great learning opportunity to the engineering students and faculty members with the benefit to earn 1 CPD point at the end of the workshop.

A training session on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) was organized by Dr. Suresh Kumar, Assistant Professor Business Administration for the faculty and students of Sukkur IBA. In his welcome remarks, Dr. Suresh said thanks to the esteemed guest and trainer for taking time out and visiting Sukkur IBA. The training was facilitated by Mr. Shaharyar Nashat, Country Council, City Bank. This training helped participants to build a strong knowledge base on all aspects of IPR. At the end of the session, Dr. Altaf Hussain Samo, Director EDC, decorated the esteemed guests with the Traditional gifts of Sindhi Topi and Ajrak as a token of appreciation.

Training Session on Intellectual Property Rights

One-day training session on ‘Credit Modelling & Risk Analysis’ was organized by Dr. Suresh Kumar, Assistant Professor in Business Administration for the students and faculty members of Sukkur IBA. The workshop was facilitated by Mr. Edward Bodmer, author of the renowned book on finance titled ‘Corporate and Project Finance Modelling’, Wiley Finance Corporate Trainer, Euromoney & Amsterdam Institute of Finance (AIF) and former Vice President, First National Bank of Chicago. This course covered the credit risk, market risk and liquidity risk using judgmental risk assessments, cash flow projections and mathematical techniques. Training was attended by more than 25 faculty members from Sukkur IBA and other regional universities.

IBA Public School Sukkur hosted a mega event of “4th Lingo STEM Expo” at its premises in which students showcased their projects and participated with a great zeal and enthusiasm. Dr. Shehzad Jeeva, Director AKU Examinations Board, visited the exhibition as a Guest of Honor of the event. He visited all the stalls and took special interest in science-related projects and had a deep conversation with students. Seminar on Promotion of Voluntary Blood Donation was organized by the Registrar Office, Sukkur IBA. The main objective of this seminar was to create awareness among the youth to donate blood voluntarily. Officials from Maternal and Child Health Program supported by the USAID gave a detailed presentation on how and when to donate, and who can and cannot donate blood. In the concluding remarks, Registrar Sukkur IBA, Engr. Zahid Hussain Khand, appreciated the efforts of the officials and encouraged the students to donate blood voluntarily.

Sukkur IBA Go-Green Society celebrated Earth Day on 22 April 2017. Students made models to showcase different problems our planet is facing and their remedies. Prizes and certificates were distributed among the winners.
