You must therefore, irst purge your mind of all doubts and embrace the eminence of Our God. That is called "Faith; believing that God can do all things. 2) HALLOWED BE THY NAME: It is the same word that in other places is translated sanctiied. In these words, we give glory to God; we give him adoration; as that, the Lord is magniied, or gloriied, for God's holiness is the greatness and glory of all his perfections. We must begin our prayers with praising God, and it is very it he should be irst served, and that we should give glory to God, before we expect to receive mercy and grace from him. Let him have praise of his perfections, and then let us have the beneit of them. No one is supposed to approach his Father with disrespect, or insolence if you are ready to receive answers for your request. When you adore your earthly Father, and recognize his position as head of the home, it appeals to him, that there is a slim chance of him rejecting your request. So also when you give God due praise, He is obliged to answer your petitions. 3) THY KINGDOM COME: The word kingdom here means reign. Matthew 3:2. The petition is the expression of a wish that God may reign everywhere; that his laws may be obeyed; and especially that the gospel of Christ may be advanced everywhere, till the world shall be illed with his glory. God's kingdom has to do with His ways, His word, and order. So here we are asking that God's ways happen on earth, as they are fully obeyed in Heaven. Let the kingdom of the world be made Christ's kingdom and all men become subjects to it, as God's word becomes their character.” 4) THY WILL BE DONE: This petition is properly added to the preceding; for when the kingdom of righteousness, peace, and joy, in the Holy Spirit, is established in the heart, there is then an ample provision made for the fulillment of the Divine will. The will of God is ininitely good, wise, and holy; to have it fulilled within and among men is to have ininite goodness, wisdom, and holiness diffused throughout the universe; and earth made the counterpart of heaven. The object of these three irst petitions is that God's name should be gloriied, and his kingdom established; and by being placed irst, we learn that his glory and kingdom are of more consequence than our wants, and that these should be irst in our hearts and petitions before the throne of grace. We must therefore irst seek the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and hope that other things will be added unto us according to His promise in scriptures. 5) GIVE US THIS DAY OUR DAILY BREAD: The word bread here means, "everything necessary to sustain life, Matthew 4:4, Deuteronomy 8:3. Different schools of thoughts have given

different definitions of what they think is the

meaning of prayer. All this is born out of

different perspective, different backgrounds, or

even different teachings or denominations.

But in all definitions, there is always a common

fac to r t ha t connec t s a l l , and tha t i s

communication. You would agree with me that

communication can only be said to be effective,

when there is a response to an initiated

conversation. So if I say I pray to God, I am

initiating a conversation that requires a

response. Only then have I prayed. Over the

years, we have been thought "How God expects

us to pray” but most of these teachings were

born out of man's doctrines. Some believe you

have to shout to a certain level to enforce

authority, others believe we have to pray silently

to show humility. But the method and ways

expected of us as believers to Pray is clearly

stated in the scriptures in Matthew 6, and Luke

11. This is popularly called The Lords Prayers.

The Lord’s Prayer clearly gives us a pattern for

prayer.

1. OUR FATHER WHO ART IN HEAVEN: Our Father

This is a clear representation of the perspective

to which we should view God when we want to

pray. Our relationship with God transcends

beyond Him just being our God, to God being

our Father. The phrase" Our Father". Intimates,

that we must pray, not only alone and for

ourselves, but with and for others; for we are

members one of another, and are called into

Effective Prayerfellowship with each other. We are here taught to

whom to pray, to God only. "Who art in

heaven"| This phrase in the Scriptures seems

used to express: Firstly: His OMNIPRESENCE.

The heaven of heavens cannot contain thee. 1

Kings 8:27. Secondly: His MAJESTY and

DOMINION over his creatures. Art thou not God

in heaven, and ruleth thou not over all the

kingdoms of the heathen? 2 Chronicles 20:6.

Thirdly: His POWER and MIGHT. Art thou not

God in heaven and in thy hand is there not power

and might, so that no creature is able to withstand

thee! 2 Chronicles 20:6. Our God is in heaven,

and hath done whatsoever he pleased. Psalm

115:3. Fourthly: His OMNISCIENCE. The

Lord's throne is in heaven, His eyes behold, His

eye-lids try the children of men. Psalm 11:4. The

Lord looketh down from heaven; he beholdeth all

the sons of men. Psalm 33:13-15. Fifthly: His

infinite PURITY and HOLINESS. Look down

from thy holy habitation, Deuteronomy 26:15.

Thou art the high and lofty One, who inhabits

eternity, whose name is holy. Isa 57:15.

GOD BLESS YOU.

are dependent on him one day as much as another, it was evidently the intention of our Savior that

prayer should be offered every day

This is, moreover, expressed in the plural number-- give us. It is evidently, therefore, intended to

be used by more than one, or by some community of people. No community or congregation can

meet every day for worship but families. It is therefore evident that this prayer is a strong implied

command for daily family prayer. So for those families who take family prayers for granted,

please note that it is one of the quickest tool for divine provision.

AsIwouldalwayssay“whatyoucannotgetonyourknees,youdon'tneedit"

Apopularpreacherwouldsay“WhatGodcannotgiveyou,youdon’tneedit and you don't want

it”

The scripture says in psalm 68:19, that God daily loadeth us with benefits. Some translation says

that "God daily bears our burdens". This is a clear indication that God expects us to daily come to

his presence. He is never bored by our petitions. In fact He is delighted when we make requests,

because then He has the opportunity to prove his sovereignty and power. And His Glory is made

manifest.

6) AND FORGIVE US OUR DEBTS, AS WE FORGIVE OUR DEBTORS:

Debts here mean sins, or offences against God-- offences which none but God can forgive. The

measure by which we may expect forgiveness is that which we use in reference to others. Psalm

18:25-26, Matthew 18:28-35, Mark 11:25, Luke 11:4. This is the invariable rule by which God

dispenses pardon. He that comes before him unwilling to forgive, harboring dark and revengeful

thoughts, how can he expect that God will show him that mercy which he is unwilling to show to

others?

You must make a conscious effort to always live a burden free life by forgiving people that sin

against you. Remember that our plea for mercy is not a plea of merit, but a plea of Grace.

At this point, I would like you to note that the prayer for supply came before the prayer for

forgiveness of sins. This clearly means that God provides for you not because you are sinless, but

because He loves you. Remember that even while we were yet sinners, He died for us. Also the

scripture states that God first loved us. So your supply is not a function of your sinlessness, but a

function of His Love.

This is not a guarantee to sin, but a call to total and complete adoration of the Almighty God.

7) LEAD US NOT INTO TEMPTATION:

This request is similar to this is offered by David, Psalm 141:4 "Incline not my heart to any evil

thing, to practice wicked works with men that work iniquity." God tempts no man as stated in

James 1:13. This phrase, then, must be used in the sense of permitting. Do not suffer us, or permit

us, to be tempted to sin. In this it is implied that God has such control

The names of sixteen books of the English Bible are hidden in the

text of the following paragraph. Can you find all sixteen of them?

I once made a remark about the hidden books of the Bible. It was a lulu. Kept people looking so hard for facts and for others it was a revelation. Some were in a jam, especially since the names of the books were not capitalized. But the truth finally struck home to numbers of readers. To others, it was a real job. We want it to be a most fascinating few moments for you. Yes, there will be some really easy ones to spot. Others may require judges to help them. I will quickly admit it usually takes a minister to find one of them, and there will be loud lamentations when it is found. One little lady says she brews a cup of tea, so she can concentrate better. See how well you can compete. Relax now for there are really sixteen names of books of the Bible in this story.

You are to hunt for ten words of five letters each and all beginning with the letters RO. Each word is described or defined

to help you guess it.

1. Large stones.

2. Parts of a house.

3. Man of a certain nationality.

4. Garments.

5. A way to cook meat.

6. Parts of a tree.

7. To waken.

8. The opposite of smooth.

9. Kingly.

10. Large twisted cords.
