Qualified personnel
For the purpose of this Instruction Manual and product labels, a "Qualified person"is someone who is familiar with the installation, mounting, start-up and operation ofthe equipment and the hazards involved.He or she must have the following qualifications:
• Trained and authorised to energise, de-energise, clear, ground and tag circuitsand equipment in accordance with established safety procedures.
• Trained in the proper care and use of protective equipment in accordance withestablished safety procedures.
• Trained in rendering first aid.

Electrostatically sensitive devices (ESD)
Caution
Electronic modules contain electrostatically sensitive devices that can easily bedestroyed if they are incorrectly handled. However, if your work does involve thehandling of such devices, please observe the following information:
• Electronics modules should not be touched unless work has to be carried-outon them.
• If it is essential for you to touch an electronic module, make sure that yourbody is electrostatically discharged beforehand.
• Modules may not be allowed to come into contact with electrically insulatingmaterials such as plastic foil, insulating table tops or clothing made of syntheticfibers.
• Modules may only be placed on electrically conducting surfaces.
• Modules and electronic components should always be packed in electricallyconducting containers (such as metallized plastic boxes or metal canisters)before being stored or shipped.
• If packing containers are used which are not conductive, modules and boardsmust first be wrapped in a conducting material. Examples of such materialsinclude electrically conducting foam rubber or household aluminum foil.
For easy reference, the protective measures necessary when handling electrostaticsensitive devices are illustrated in the sketches below:

Note
The HV-IGBTs (Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistors) which are used are deviceswhich can be destroyed by electrostatic discharge. The devices can be very easilydestroyed if they are incorrectly handled. All of the measures specified above mustbe applied to the HV-IGBTs to avoid the drive converter being damaged, and toensure that it still continues to function perfectly.Further, the gate- and emitter connections of HV-IGBTs must always be short-circuited before the devices are transported.

Safety and application instructions andinformation for drive converters
Safety and application information for drive converters(according to: The Low-Voltage Directive 73/23/EC)
SIMOVERT MV drive converters are medium-voltage drive converters. However,they use components which are subject to the Directives for low-voltage devicesand equipment. These include auxiliaries as well as open-loop and closed-loopcontrol components.
1. General information
During operation, in accordance with their degree of protection, drive converterscan have parts and components which are live (under voltage), bare and which aremoving or rotating; they can also have hot surfaces.
There is a potential danger of severe personnel injury or significant material
damage if the required covers are inadmissibly removed, if the equipment isincorrectly used or it has been incorrectly installed or controlled.
Please refer to the documentation for additional information.
Only suitably qualified, trained personnel may be used to transport, install andcommission as well as service/maintain the equipment (observe IEC 364 andCENELEC HD 384 or DIN VDE 0100 and IEC Report 664 or DIN VDE 0110 andthe domestic accident prevention regulations).
Qualified, trained personnel in the sense of this basic safety information arepersonnel who are knowledgeable about the installation, mounting, commissioningand operation of the product and are suitably qualified for the activities which theycarry-out.
2. Correct use
Drive converters are components which are designed to be installed in electricalplants or machines.
When they are installed in machines, it is not permissible to commission the driveconverter (i.e. go into correct operation), until it has been clearly identified that themachine is in full compliance with the regulations specified in EC Directive89/392/EC (Machinery Directive); EN 60204 must be observed.
Commissioning (i.e. go into correct operation) is only permitted if the EMC Directiveis maintained (89/336/EC).
The drive converters fulfill the requirements of the Low-Voltage Directive 73/23/EC.The harmonized Standards, series EN 50178/DIN VDE 0160 in conjunction withEN 60439-1/DIN VDE 0660 Part 500 and EN 60146/DIN VDE 0558 are applied forthe drive converter.
The technical data as well as the data on the supply/connection conditions shouldbe taken from the rating plate and the documentation. It is important that this datais carefully maintained.
3. Transport, storage
The information/instructions for transport, storage and correct handling of the driveconverter must be carefully observed.
Climatic conditions must be maintained in compliance with EN 50178.
4. Mounting
The drive converters must be installed and cooled corresponding to thespecifications in the associated documentation.
The drive converters must be protected against inadmissible stressing. Especiallyduring transport and handling, it is not permissible that components are bent and/orinsulating/isolating clearances changed. Electronic components and contactsshould not be touched.

Drive converters contain components which can be destroyed by electrostaticdischarge if they are incorrectly handled. It is not permissible that electricalcomponents are mechanically damaged or destroyed (under certain circumstancesthis can represent a health hazard!).
5. Electrical connectionWhen working with drive converters which are powered-up (under voltage), therelevant domestic accident prevention regulations for the particular country mustbe carefully observed (e.g. VBG 4).
The drive converters must be electrically installed in full compliance with therelevant regulations (e.g. cable cross-sections, fuses and protective devices,protective conductor connection). More detailed information and instructions areprovided in the documentation.
Information for EMC correct installation - such as shielding, grounding,arrangement and location of filters and routing cables - is provided in the driveconverter documentation. These instructions should always be observed, also fordrive converters with CE label. The manufacturer of the plant or machine is
responsible in ensuring that the limit values, specified by the EMC legislation, aremaintained.
6. Operation
Plants and systems, in which the drive converters are installed, must, if required,be provided with additional monitoring and protective devices in accordance withthe valid safety regulations, e.g. legislation regarding equipment, accidentprevention regulations etc.
After the drive converter has been disconnected and isolated from the supply, it isnot permissible that conductive equipment components and power connections areimmediately touched due to capacitors which are possibly charged. In this case,the appropriate labels on the drive converter must be carefully observed.
All of the covers and doors must be kept closed during operation.
7. Service and maintenance
The manufacturer documentation must be observed.
These safety instructions and information must be kept in a safe place!

Warning
Voltages of over 1000 Volt (medium voltage!) can be present when this driveconverter is operational. This can result in death or severe bodily injury. This is thereason that extreme care must be taken when working on or with the driveconverter. Please carefully observe the following warning information/instructions:
Before starting any work on the drive converter, the following five safety rules,according to DIN VDE 0100, must be carefully maintained:

Only qualified personnel may work on or with the drive converter or parts of it.All work carried-out on the drive converter and its installation must be carried-out infull compliance with the domestic electrical regulations (in Germany: VBG4) andthe local regulations in accordance with the appropriate specifications. This alsomeans that the drive converter cabinet must be correctly grounded (studs) and itmust ensured that no freely accessible part of the equipment is at line supply
potential or at any other hazardous voltage potential.

5. When carrying-out work on or in the control cabinet it must be observed thatthere is no central breaker for the auxiliary power supply (400 V / 230 V). Evenif all of the motor protection circuit-breakers and m.c.b.s are opened, voltage isstill present at its inputs. The equipment can only be safely shutdown if theupstream auxiliary power supply on the plant side can be powered-down.

Caution
The electronic modules contain components which can be destroyed byelectrostatic discharge. These components can be easily destroyed if they areincorrectly handled.When carrying-out any work, it is important that the ESDS protective measures aremaintained. If this is not observed, there is a danger that the components could beelectrically destroyed which would have a negative impact on the functioning of thedrive converter.

1.1 Maintenance
Maintenance includes measures and activities which are used to maintain and re-establish the reference status of the drive converter. These include:
♦ Inspection
♦ Maintenance
♦ Repair
These instructions provide, in addition to information and instructions oninspection and maintenance, also detailed information and instructions ontroubleshooting (refer to Section 3) and on replacing components (refer to Section4) of the drive converter (repair).
Please contact the drive converter supplier for troubleshooting support.
1.1.1 InspectionInspection is used to identify and evaluate the actual drive converter status. Thisessentially involves visual checks. Inspection work should be carried-out accordingto an appropriate schedule. The maintenance and inspection list (Section 1.2.1)can be used as basis for a regular inspection of the drive converter.
1.1.2 Maintenance
Maintenance is used to ensure that the drive converter is kept in its referencestate. Accumulated dirt must be regularly removed and worn parts replaced.
Maintenance work should be carried-out according to an appropriate schedule. Themaintenance and inspection list (Section 1.2.1) can be used as basis for a regulardrive converter maintenance schedule.

We recommend that the following visual checksare made on an annual basis. Checks must bemade for accumulated dirt, dependent on theapplication conditions, and removed more
frequently (≤ ½ year).

− Insulating clearances Slight, dry and non-conductive dirt is permissible.Accumulated dirt, which has occurred due to dustin conjunction with a high air humidity, must beremoved. It is especially important that thesurfaces of the semiconductors, the insulatingstuds and fabric-base laminate of the low-inductance busbar assemblies are clean and dry.
− Removing accumulateddirt
A dry, clean cloth must be used to wipe down allof the surfaces in the cabinet. In this case, care
must be taken that the dirt is not simplydistributed, but is actually removed by continuallychanging the surface of the cloth which is beingused. Cleaning cloths must be manufactured outof a non-fleece material.
Cloths dipped in ethyl alcohol (it is notpermissible that the cloth becomes saturated)can be used to remove higher levels of dirt. Alsohere, the cloth must be frequently changed sothat the accumulated dirt is not simply distributed.
A brush and vacuum cleaner can be used toclean inaccessible locations using drycompressed air (max. 1 bar).
NOTE
Under no circumstances may fiber-optic cableand fiber-optic cable bundles be cleaned usingmoist cloths or similar. If there is a significantamount of dust, this must be removed using adry, non-fleecing cloth.
− Air filter elements(optional)
Air filters are checked in the cabinet doors for dirtaccumulation. Clean or replace the filter elementsif the airflow is restricted (refer to the Section“Replacing the filter elements”.

Replacing filter elements (options)
For drive converters with filter elements, the level of accumulated dirt must bechecked. This should be checked at the beginning of every month to identify howquickly dirt accumulates. The filter elements should be replaced at the appropriate

1. Release 2 or 3 M6 screws at the outer side of the door.
2. Swing-out the filter element assembly.
3. Remove the filter element.

4. Insert a new filter element and press against the Velcro strip located at the top.

6. Tighten the M6 screws.

1.4 Air-cooled drive converters
1.4.1 Replacing the fans
The fans must be replaced after 30 000 operating hours. The fans should bereplaced in plenty of time in order to maintain the availability of the drive converter.
Standard tools required

Removal
1. Withdraw the 10-pin connector (front right).
2. Release the 14 M8 screws (perforated panel, front and rear).
3. Release the 4 M8 nuts (vibration damping mechanism).4. Lift-out the fan.
Warning
The fan is extremely heavy; weight, approx. 50 kg.We recommend that a crane is used if adequate space is available.
Caution
When removing the fan take care not to damage the thread of the vibrationdamping mechanism.
Installation
5. Install the new fan in the inverse sequence.

1.5 Water-cooled drive converters
1.5.1 Cooling system
Warning
De-ionized water can escape when carrying-out maintenance and repair work. W etherefore recommend that protective gloves and protective glasses are worn and ifnecessary an acid-proof apron used.
If seals are removed, then these should be replaced before re-assembling.
Main flow filter
The filter insert (-B118) should be cleaned after the system has beencommissioned for the first time. The filter inserts should be cleaned every year andchecked for damage. To do this, close valves (-Y101 / -Y102 / -Y104), screw open
the filter and remove the filter inserts. Blow-out the filter inserts using compressedair. Re-install in the inverse sequence
lon exchanger
The operating time of an ion exchanger cartridge is, under normal operatingconditions, a minimum of 1 year.
When replacing the ion exchanger, the pair of ball-type valves -Y102 / -Y106 mustbe closed.
Caution
When unscrewing the filter, the de-ionized water, remaining in the piping system,empties.
The complete cartridge can be removed after releasing the PVC-C pipe gland atthe ion exchanger. The manufacturer can re-generate the used resin cartridge.

2.1 Signal lamps on the modules
2.1.1 Signal lamps on the common power supply GSV
There are several LEDs on the GSV module. They have the following significance:
The green LED ( Va ) is lit, if voltage is present at all of the outputs
/ 55V 100kHz ( standard operation ).
The red LEDs have the same designation as the appropriate output terminal ( X..)and indicate if the appropriate output has been shutdown due to an overcurrentcondition ( -LED is bright ).
After a fault has occurred, the unit can only be powered-up again after the inputvoltage has been switched-out and switched-in again using F90 or Q90.

Input voltage
The input voltage is monitored for undervoltage and overvoltage.
♦ For an undervoltage condition (< 170 ...175 V), the green OK LED goes dark.The system automatically restarts after the input voltage has increased toapprox. 190 V.
♦ For overvoltage (> approx. 265 V), the red FAULT LED is bright.
Output voltages
All of the output voltages are monitored for an undervoltage condition (e.g. due tooverload/short-circuit).
♦ If the 5 V output voltage drops to < 4.7 ... 4.85 V for t > 100 to 200 µs, the redFAULT LED is bright. The system does not automatically restart; the line supplyvoltage must first be disconnected.
♦ If the ±15 V output voltage drops to < approx. 14 V or > −14 V, the red FAULTLED is bright. The 5 V voltage remains and a system failure message is output.

2.2 Signal lamps at the control cabinet (option L50)
There are four signal lamps at the upper front section of the control cabinet.
Green lamp
Continuous light: The drive converter is ready to be powered-up, i.e. the circuit-breaker is open, there is no fault and no OFF2 or OFF3 present.
Flashing light: The drive converter is not ready to be powered-up, but
− OFF2 or OFF3 is present.
− The download or drive settings’ status is active or MLFB input is active.
− The crowbar thyristor recovery time is running.
White lamp
Continuous light: The drive converter is operational, the circuit-breaker is closedand the inverter is enabled.
Flashing light:
− The DC link is pre-charged, the circuit-breaker is closed, the inverter pulses areinhibited.
− The drive converter is just going into operation, i.e. pre-charging is running andthe auxiliaries are powered-up.
− The drive converter has just been powered-down (OFF2 and OFF3).
− Automatic restart is active.
− Test mode has been selected (pre-charging, circuit-breaker and chopper).
Yellow lamp
Continuous light: An alarm (fault Class 5) is present.
Red lamp
Flashing light: A fault is present.

CautionThe electronic modules contain components which can be destroyed byelectrostatic discharge. These components can be easily destroyed if they areincorrectly handled.When carrying-out any work, it is important that the ESDS protective measures aremaintained. If this is not observed, there is a danger that the components could beelectrically destroyed which would have a negative impact on the functioning of thedrive converter.
Note
The HV-IGBTs used (Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor) are also components
which can be destroyed by electrostatic discharge. These components can beeasily destroyed when incorrectly handled. All of the information and instructionsabove should also be observed for the HV-IGBTs in order to avoid damaging thedrive converter and to ensure that it continues to function correctly.Furthermore, before transporting the equipment, the gate and emitter connectionsof the HV-IGBTs must always be short-circuited.
Warning
When working on the drive converter it should be observed that the minimumbending radii for water hoses of r = 80 mm should not be fallen below.
Caution
When working on the drive converter it should be ensured that the minimumbending radii for fiber-optic cables of r = 30 mm is not fallen below.Fiber-optic cables are sensitive to pressure which means that they must becarefully handled.The fiber-optic cables can be destroyed if this information is not carefully observed.

3.4 Fiber-optic cable connection
3.4.1 Thyristor gating
The fiber-optic cables are provided with a colored ring so that the correct locationcan be checked. The colored ring must be flush with the union nut at the lighttransmitter and light receiver modules.

Note
In order to guarantee long-term, disturbance-free drive converter operation, it isessential that the fiber-optic cables are carefully inserted and screwed into place.In order to achieve minimum launch-in and launch-out damping effects for thefiber-optic cable connections, they have a white colored ring.
Thus, when connecting the fiber-optic cables, it should be ensured that this whitecolored ring is flush with the union nut at the light transmitter and receiver modules.
3.4.2 UEL module
Check that the connector is firmly seated and has correctly snapped into place.

3.5 Cooling water
When operational, the conductivity of the cooling water in the drive converter isautomatically kept at the required value using the ion exchanger in the coolingsystem. If the drive converter cooling water was drained, e.g. due to repair work,then only de-ionized water must be used to re-fill it (data, refer to the Descriptionof SIMOVERT MV).
The de-ionized water is filled through the cooling system.
A vent valve is provided at each vertical group pipe to vent the water circuit in thedrive converter.
Caution
When venting the drive converter it is not permissible that water sprays or dropsonto the drive converter components. Before the drive converter is powered-up, itmust be completely dry.A hose (8 mm diameter) must be screwed onto the vent valve (a connection is
provided on the valve) to vent air from the system. Use a container to catch anywater.
Refer to the Commissioning Instructions for the measures which are required to re-commission the drive converter (purge and vent reduce the conductivitycoefficient).
If the drive converter was accidentally filled with normal raw water, then the driveconverter may not be powered-up. Drain the water and remove any residual rawwater from all of the pipes and heatsinks by blowing nitrogen through the completesystem.
3.5.1 Draining the system
De-ionized water circuit
Warning
Please observe the safety information and instructions before draining the system(protect eyes, hands and body)! The system may only be emptied with the pumpsstationary and the voltages disconnected.
The de-ionized water circuit is emptied using the two drain valves in the coolingsystem. These are located at the lowest position in both the intake and return. Aftera suitable hose or similar is connected to the valve, the valve must be slowlyopened so that the pressure can slowly and continually decrease. All of the ballvalves in the de-ionized water circuit must be open. The vent valve at theequalization reservoir must be open. After a short time, the vents in the pipes mustbe opened. After the system has been emptied, all of the connections and ventsmust be correctly closed again.

Replacing the PM5 processor module
The PM5 processor module (-A200-D01) contains a memory card. This must beremoved from the module which is to be replaced. The memory card should be re-inserted after the replacement module has been inserted.
Replacing the interface module SS52 –X2 on the CS7 – module A200 – D05
If the module is replaced, the appropriate firmware must be downloaded into thenew module. Refer to the Commissioning Instructions, Section 5 for downloadingthe firmware.
Replacing the door – OP7 operator panelIf the OP7 is replaced, the appropriate firmware must be downloaded into the newOP7. Refer to the Commissioning Instructions, Section 5 for downloading thefirmware.

Description: The “Circuit-breaker open” checkback signal is missing or isreceived too late. The time between the "Open circuit-breaker"command up to when the "Circuit-breaker open" checkbacksignal is received, is monitored. This fault message isdisplayed if this time is exceeded (more than 100ms). Also referto r399.
Causes: Remedy:
Circuit-breaker opens too slow. The circuit-breaker may not require longer than 100ms toopen. For safety-related trips, the drive convertercould be damaged if the tripping time of the circuit-breaker is too long!
-If the control of the off coil and the undervoltage trip arenot directly realized via the drive converter, but using oneor several coupling relays, then the coupling relays mustbe removed from the control circuit, as they extend thetripping time.

Check and close the protective circuit-breaker.

Defective sensor. Check the temperature display in parameter r425.

temperature.Check sensor –R883. If required, replace the sensor.

Description: The kinetic buffering KIP was no longer able to maintain the DClink voltage and the drive converter was tripped (powered-down).The kinetic buffering function (KIP) must be enabled with P620= 1. During brief line supply faults, the KIP maintains the DClink voltage at a setpoint specified by P622. The drive slowlybrakes. If the line supply fault lasts for a longer period of time,the drive can be braked down to standstill. In this case, KIPshuts down with fault.
If the automatic restart function WEA is also enabled, then thisattempts to power-up the drive again.If the WEA is not enabled, the drive remains in the "Fault"condition.
