The Solar Project

Silliman University is currently spending an estimated P 3.2 m monthly or P 42 M (84M Yen) annually for power, at an average rate of about P 9.595 (20Yen) per kwh.

Rationale The need for power and the corresponding cost is expected to rise in the future,

in terms of rates as well as

consumption, even more so when the student population is expected to increase from about 10,000 to 14,000 by 2022.

As an academic institution, the use of alternative sources of energy to lower our carbon footprint will set an

example for others to hopefully follow, and to actually demonstrate

the University’s commitment for sustainable energy and environmental conservation.
