My enthusiasm as a child and experience as a business woman has given me the inspiration to start Signature Caribbean Wedding Magazine. With weddings being the grandest celebration of all, we will bring insight and inspiration. Whether it is country style weddings or small beach aff airs, Caribbean Signature Wedding will bring the latest trends, ideas, and traditions of near and far.

We welcome you to Signature Caribbean Wedding.

To Share Dreams, Love, And Life, Johniest Wiltshire Daley.

Welcome to the fi rst issue of signature Caribbean

wedding magazine. My fascination with weddings began when I was a child; my mom was involved with planning weddings for family and friends. As far back as I can remember. I was a fl ower girl in more weddings than I can count. Growing in up rural St. Andrew, Jamaica, West Indies; weddings were much more traditional at that time. What sparked my interest was the special way wedding cakes were prepared, kept and handle, before the wedding day, like it was a precious gift to the bride and groom.

After moving to New York, my parents started a limousine business in 1983, of course weddings were a major part of our bookings. After getting married in 1984 my husband and I became partners in the business. In 1988 after taking over the business we adadded tuxedo rentals and bridal accessories to the business, which we still currently own. In 1989, we also opened a high fashion shoe store, followed by a specialty boutique a year later. Its a great pleasure to be part of the wedding industry.

ROLAND HYDE STORY AND PHOTOS

Zang Toi Brings Spirit of Valentine to Mercedes-Benz Fashion WeekThe most AMAZING show took place at Lincoln Center last night during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, Fall/Winter 2011 Collections. Your guess is right. ZANG TOI. Totally unstoppable. He achieved the impossible task of improving on his last season’s ultimate show. Ovations unlimited. He blew everyone away...AGAIN!!! This innovative genius is one of fashion’s greatest trend-setting icons. Ladies, Happy Valentine’s Day. If you want the perfect romance get a piece of Zang Toi...Roland Hyde/RolModelMedia.

Zang Toi BioZang Toi was born and raised in a small village in Kelantan, the youngest of seven children of a grocer. After leaving his native Malaysia at the age of eighteen, Zang arrived in New York and at the age of 20, began his studies at Parsons School of Design. In August 1989, he opened his atelier and soon after, Zang was awarded the 1990 Mouton Cadet Young Designer of the Year award which recognizes the top, young U.S. designer of the year. In a Newsday article published in 1991, Frank de Car enthusiastically noted of the Malaysian-born designer and his success, “If anyone is THE NEXT BIG THING, it’s him.” (Newsday, New York, 29 April 1991)

Since then, Zang has captured the attention of the world’s fashion elite and continues to be characterized by his precocious aptitude and astute business acumen. After making his designs available in Malaysia in 1996 through his specialty dress shop in Lot 10 Shopping Center, in 2004 and 2005, Zang further expanded his operation with a Zang Toi Café in the fashionable Pavilion Shopping Center in downtown Kuala Lumpur, and with the Zang Toi show licensing in Malaysia.

Zang continues to have a strong presence in the international fashion scene. Having dressed the likes of Sharon Stone, Gong Li, Eva Longoria, Fergie of the Black Eye Peas, Heather Graham, Devon Aoki, Farrah Fawcett, Patti LaBelle, Ivana Trump and Melinda Gates, Zang Toi is now considered an established name in the world of Haute Fashion. His timeless and uncompromising designs pamper women with elegance and glamour - inspired by his love of travel and fine living.

It was a long wait but I was finally engaged to my fiancé during Thanksgiving weekend last fall. As seen on TV, the first thing I knew I had to

do was call my mom. I didn’t get the response that I was expecting. Not an automatic congratulations, I am so happy for you, etc…but “Did you bless the ring?.. Are you with the preacher now?” With the most important announcement in my life, the only thing that matter at the moment was whether or not I had followed the West Indian tradition of blessing the ring. I knew then that I needed to blaze new trails and set new traditions for myself and my new family. Not only for the wedding, but the new legacy we were building.

Growing up Trinidadian-American, I have grown to love and respect the culture in which my family came from. At the same time, I am empowered by the knowledge, resources, and system that I have as an American. I am determined to live the American dream by having a family and financial freedom. My fiancé and I wanted not to only focus on a wedding day, but a marriage life. Our main goal was to have a “simple” wedding ceremony in order for us to save funds to purchase our first home. A destination wedding would be romantic and intimate to a close few selected individuals.

I presented this idea to my family and it was an insult. This was their opportunity to have a grand time. It was a hard battle but a compromise had to be made. If they wanted the big traditional wedding, then they would have to pay for it! With all the things that I had to balance, organize and manage during this time, the most challenging thing was dealing with my family. I knew what I was getting into when I agree to let them pay for the wedding: the expensive dress, large guest list, and don’t forget the black cake with the icing.

It is important however for newly engaged couples to set the boundaries as to how much they are willing to compromise with family members in order to follow tradition. This is a time for you and your future spouse to paint the picture of how you want your future to look; a future so bright that you have to put on shades. ♥
