INTRODUCTION

Why structured cabling?

• Major risks connected with non-standard cabling:

– Network performance is lower than the one specified bythe standards

– High cost of making changes to the system(the so-called MAC – Moves, Adds, Changes procedures)

– Inability to support new technologies

Why structured cabling?

• As the principles of structured cabling design and installation become increasingly recognized, the installed network equipment becomes less and less expensive and the efficiency of data transmission grows exponentially

• The structured cabling system has been the basis for information network as long as it exists. It is a foundation, which enables all business applications

• A well designed, assembled, and maintained cabling system reduces maintenance costs at all stages of its lifetime

What is structured cabling?

• ISO/IEC 11801 definition of structured cabling:

– “Generic cabling – a structured telecommunications cabling

system, capable of supporting a wide range of applications.

Generic cabling can be installed without prior knowledge of

the required applications. Application specific hardware is not

a part of generic cabling.”

What is Structured Cabling?

• Structured Cabling

– is not a telephone network

– is not a data network

– is not a cable TV network

– is not a video surveillance network

– is not a BMS, FLS, etc. network

• Structured Cabling –integrated building engineering infrastructure(upon which all listed above networks can be built)

Signamax™ Cabling System

• Signamax Cabling System – complete solution

• Signamax Cabling System is built based on the structured cabling system

• Signamax Cabling System is based on the rules and specifications outlined in ISO/IEC and ANSI/TIA standards

• Signamax Cabling System Manual is an independent document

Page 8: Signamax™ Cabling System Review Revision E. INTRODUCTION

Signamax Cabling System

• Signamax Cabling System Design Principles & Installation Practices Manual describes all aspects relating to

design,

installation,

administration,

certification testing,

registration

to apply for one of the Signamax warranties provided bythe Signamax Connectivity Systems

Signamax Cabling System

• The Manual contains two groups of rules the compliance with which effects warranty issue –

– Requirements

and

– Conditions

Page 10: Signamax™ Cabling System Review Revision E. INTRODUCTION

Signamax Cabling System

• “Requirements” concern the rules relating to transmission performance, design and installation rules, certification testing, and applying for SCS warranty, i.e. those rules that are necessary to comply with to provide a high quality, reliable product such as Signamax Cabling System tothe end user

• Failure or violation of one of the requirements, which are part of the Signamax Cabling System, can be the grounds for denial to provide the Signamax Cabling System warranty or, if the violation is discovered after the warranty has been issued, for termination of the warranty service and agreement

Signamax Cabling System

1 All the rules marked by in the Manual are regulatory (requirements) and are binding in case Signamax warranty for the cabling system installed shall be obtained. The requirements are described by terms “shall,” “must,” “prohibited,” “not allowed,” etc.

Page 12: Signamax™ Cabling System Review Revision E. INTRODUCTION

Signamax Cabling System

• “Conditions” concern the rules relating to common universal methods of design and installation, selection of materials or equipment, supply of certain cabling system resources needed to ensure its long-term continuous operation andthe possibility of improvement over the whole warranty period as well as adaptation to new telecom applications and technologies

• Conditions are the requirements the effect of which can be limited by some unavoidable objective circumstances. In all cases when the condition can be implemented, it takes on the requirement status

Signamax Cabling System

1All the rules marked by in this manual are advisory (conditions) and must be complied with to obtainthe Signamax warranty for the cabling system installed in all cases except for when they cannot be executed due to objective reasons. The conditions are described by the terms “recommended,” “allowed,” “permitted,” etc.
