VISION IN PAINT
"The paintings of Edgar Gutierrez are rituals transcension
in a drama of color, shadow and light.'s Difficult to
compare this work with examples of past styles. Certainly
he owes a debt of gratitude to the surrealist school, but he
surpasses This simplistic labeling and needs to be seen in
its own light. Distant deeper and richer in color than most
of the other Surrealists, Gutierrez creates a space of
Infinite depth using a technique that starts with a spread
to Pollock. Considering that painting at the School of
Abstract Expressionism was directly influenced by the
Surrealist technique of automatic drawing, it is appropriate
that sprinkled his general acts as the soul of the piece in
which he manipulates its forms. This shapes and colored
figures floating in and around fabric waiting to be frozen
in space. When they take shape, the resulting images are
sometimes recognizable, sometimes not. "
Fredrick Duignan,
Curador of Contemporary Art

A DREAMER
WHO BELIEVES AND CREATES By Yudith Quant
What is the change in your work?
In a recent conversation with my friend, the collector Ri-
cardo Rosales , I learned that the safest thing we have in
life is change and that change will my current proposal.
God says: " And we know that to them that love God all
things work together for good .... As I 'm a believer I know
we're in a large chess board and it is God who directs our
every move.
It was no accident that conversation and when I get my
workshop to explore my creative process from inception
to where it was at that point , I note that in almost all my
work abstract expressionism was as locked and that is why
I present on this occasion a new series of works , which I
choose to call " Signalxtures " (Signal + Textures )
And in which I enjoy using the free painting, gestural,
spontaneous untethered , paying more attention to sur-
face qualities , ie , qualities of brushstroke, aggressive line
and texture as such, the use of huge canvases adopting an
approach space in which all parts of the fabric form a vital
in the whole work element, the use of the accidents that
occurred during the imprimatura , the exaltation of the act
13
of painting itself as a visual media , and the attempt to
transfer pure emotion directly onto the canvas , and fea-
tures of this wonderful and productive movement, which
has had a great influence on my creative process
Regarding this change , the sculptor Jorge Segui tells me "I
think if this is the result of misunderstandings, ups and
downs and disappointments why we spend the artists I
think you channeled well all that energy in your work , for
they say ; " what happens should " sometimes bad turn
( with talent) in good . It's a different , rich abstraction in
texture and color, being a " side" different encounter in
this work many different strength and approaches but with
the same load , with the same imprint. If I were to tell you
something else you say you found as a kind of vein of
gold , which is well worth the abandonment of earlier
demoInterviewnstrations this new language "

ACKNOWLEDGMENTS
Primarily my Almighty God who gave me life, strength,
momentum, faith, love, talent and knowledge to become
all that I am ... My mother Maria Rosario, a jewel, a pre-
cious being that was chosen by God to bring me into
this world, a creative woman, hardworking, and a
woman that set the best
examples for me. Today I carry in the depths of my
heart .... my beloved Maria Eleuteria, for being my sup-
port, for always being by my side in the
development of my artistic career ... to my children
Endmariz, Maximiliano, Emiliano, Victoria and Mazzielis
for having the courage to face, with their mother, the
challenge of reaching this beautiful
country, the United States, with only a suitcase full of
dreams……... My friends art lovers who have gone:
Rafael Vera, Rafael Guariguata, Douglas Mavares, Yamil
Tabraue, Francisco Hevia and those still
helping these dreams come true.
God bless all!
