COGNITIVE-BEHAVIORAL THERAPY: THE

BASICS OF HELPING PEOPLE GET BETTER

CITY COGNITIVE- Toronto, May 15 (will also be held in Kingston and Ottawa). Behavioral Therapy (CBT) has always been the ideal research-supported, short-term therapy, even before it was popular to practice such an approach! The very instructive nature of CBT produces long-term results because it teaches clients rational self-counseling that they can apply not only to their current concerns, but to anything that might come their way. CBT also emphasizes getting better, rather than feeling better. When CBT clients are "better," they understand exactly why. ABA TEACHING ASSISTANT (TORONTO) - Enthusiastic students needed to work with our 11 year old child with autism (1-3 mornings per week). We are currently implementing a form of ABA called Verbal Behaviour, which is based on Skinner's analysis of the verbal operands of language, and concentrates on teaching

functional language. You may have the opportunity to make a truly profound difference to a child's future life, and learn valuable teaching and therapeutic techniques which are now in great demand. STUDENT RESEARCH OPPORTUNITY -

SOUTHLAKE REGIONAL HEALTH CENTRE

(NEWMARKET) - My name is Dr. Adele Lafrance and I am a Psychologist in the adolescent eating disorder program at Southlake Regional Health Centre in Newmarket. My colleague (Dr. Ahmed Boachie - Psychiatrist, Professor at U of T, and Director of the program) and I would like to complete some research projects using retrospective outcome data that have been collected from adolescents participating in our Day Treatment Program in the past few years. We are also collecting prospective data on patients in our current programs to learn more about the factors that promote recovery from this life-threatening illness. Because our clinical workload tends to be quite heavy, we would like to invite early-career scholars (undergraduate or graduate) to collaborate with us on research projects for dissemination (poster presentations, talks, peer-reviewed publications). Specifically, we would be interested in working with research-oriented students looking to fulfill an academic requirement or who wish to gain additional experience and/or presentations/publications to support their applications to granting agencies, internship, etc. A current student was able to get credit for the experience as an Independent Studies course. Supervision is available and the time commitment is somewhat flexible.
