CONDITIONAL ACCEPTANCE According to Sibelius Academy’s admissions requirements 2019, you are eligible for education leading both to a lower and to a higher university degree if you have completed one of the following:

1) A Finnish matriculation examination referred to in the National matriculation examination act (672/2005);

2) A vocational upper secondary qualification, a further vocational qualification, or a specialist vocational qualification defined under the Act on Vocational Education and Training (631/2017); or

3) A foreign degree or qualification that makes you eligible for corresponding higher education in the awarding country

You must send a copy of your qualification or degree certificate so that it reaches the Sibelius Academy Admissions Office no later than 30 January 2019 at 3 pm (Finnish time). Candidates for the Finnish Matriculation Examination and other applicants who receive a certificate for the qualifications mentioned above (in items 2–3) in the spring of 2019 are deemed eligible for education at a higher education institution.

• The decision on the admittance of these candidates is conditional until they have submitted proof of a completed qualification. If a conditionally accepted applicant fails to produce a verified copy of the certificate of their existing qualifications no later than 8 July 2019 at 3pm (Finnish time), and has not applied for a dispensation to take the entrance examinations, they will not be granted a right to study at the Sibelius Academy.

• Sibelius Academy can also at its discretion accept an official provisory degree certificate issued by a university or other institute of higher education, if the certificate proves that you have completed all the required qualifications and will receive the official degree certificate or diploma later.

You can be deemed as eligible to the 5.5-year education also if the Sibelius Academy otherwise deems you to have sufficient knowledge and skills for the studies. If you do not complete any of the qualifications mentioned in items 1–3 by 8 July 2019, you may apply for a dispensation to take the entrance examination. In principle, dispensation applications that arrive after the application period has ended will not be processed. However, in special cases the Dean may apply discretion to accept a dispensation application that arrives after the given deadline. According to Sibelius Academy’s admissions requirements 2019, you are eligible for education leading only to a higher university degree if you have completed one of the following:

1) An applicable lower university degree; 2) An applicable university of applied sciences degree; or 3) An applicable education completed abroad which in the awarding country gives

you eligibility for corresponding higher education For Sibelius Academy, an applicable qualification is a qualification in music. The following exceptions to this rule apply:

• For applicants to Arts Management, a higher education degree in another field is also considered applicable if the Entrance Examination Board is convinced that you have acquired sufficient knowledge of the field of arts and culture through your university-level studies or work experience.

• For applicants to Music Education, a degree in education is also considered an applicable degree if you have also completed sufficient amount of studies in music that give you sufficient knowledge and skills to complete a Master of Music degree in Music Education. Furthermore, you must also have completed either as part of your degree in education or as a separate study unit the pedagogical teaching courses (worth at least 60 ECTS credits / 35 credit units), as referred to in the Decree on the Qualification Requirements for Teaching Personnel, or you must have gained access to a pedagogical teaching programme at a university or a university of applied sciences.

• For applicants to Music Technology, a higher education degree in the field of technology or media is also considered applicable if you have also completed sufficient amount of studies in music.

Sibelius Academy may deem you as eligible for the 2.5-year education even if you haven’t completed an applicable degree in music. In this case, you need to have completed a higher education degree in another field and, additionally, music studies at the university-level, which serve as proof of sufficient skills and knowledge in music to complete a higher university (Master's) degree. Sibelius Academy does not admit applicants to the 2.5-year education if they have not completed at least a lower university degree. To be considered eligible, conditionally accepted applicants must provide Sibelius Academy Admission Office with a certificate of completed degree or education no later than 8 July 2019 at 3pm (Finnish time). The copy of the certificate must be either in Finnish, Swedish, or English. If you have completed your education outside of Finland, you must append a clarification of the educational system in the country in question and the level of completed education in this system. The clarification must be in Finnish, Swedish, or English. The certificates and clarifications must arrive to Sibelius Academy Admissions Office before the deadline. Sibelius Academy can also at its discretion accept an official provisory degree certificate issued by a university or other institute of higher education, if the certificate proves that you have completed all the required qualifications and will receive the official degree certificate or diploma later. A conditionally accepted applicant who fails to produce the required documents before the deadline will lose their conditional study place in Sibelius Academy. HOW TO CONFIRM YOUR STUDY PLACE In order to confirm your study place, you have to accept it no later than 3pm (Finnish time) on 8 July 2019. If you do not confirm your study place by the deadline, you will lose it (Universities Act 38 § / Polytechnics Act 28c §). You can do the confirmation announcement only once and you cannot change the announcement afterwards. Please notice you may accept only one study place leading to a higher education degree during one academic term in Finland. This rule applies to all higher education in Finland except transfer student application and the Police College of Finland and the Åland Polytechnic.

• If you have been accepted to a study programme, you will receive an e-mail with a confirmation link (sender [email protected]). Click the given link and confirm your study place.

• If you have a Finnish social security number and Finnish online banking credentials, mobile certificate, or an electronic ID-card, you can confirm your study place by logging in to the My Studyinfo -service (www.studyinfo.fi). NOTE! If you have a Finnish social security number but no Finnish online banking credentials, you can accept your study place only with a paper form.

If you cannot accept your study place electronically, please use a paper form available at http://intro.uniarts.fi/en/accepting-the-study-place. NOTE! Please do not return the paper form if you accept your study place electronically! Post the form to the address mentioned on the bottom of the page. The university is to have the form no later than by 3pm (Finnish time) on 8 July 2019. If the form arrives late, you will lose your study place. You can also scan the form and e-mail it to us. FEEDBACK ON THE ENTRANCE EXAMINATIONS You have the opportunity to receive feedback on your performance in the entrance examination. A list of persons responsible for feedback on the entrance examinations will be announced on Uniarts Helsinki admissions website on the day of the admission decision. Each programme, main subject, and main instrument will have a specific time slot for feedback. The feedback is intended to guide you to further improve your performance and to help you find development areas. HOW TO REQUEST FOR RECTIFICATION Applicants can apply for rectification of the Dean’s admission decision from Uniarts Helsinki under the Universities Act (558/2009), section 82. The right of appeal means that the applicant has the possibility to request for rectification if there is a reason to believe that there has been an error in the decision-making process. The right of appeal is not intended as a means for receiving feedback or asking for further information about the application process. A written request for rectification should be submitted to the university within 14 days of the publication of the admission result.
