2 SATCOM EMERGING TRENDS -POST REFORM ER A
India is among a handful of countries with advanced capabilities in the space sector and a target firmly set on '''SPACE' as its
newest horizon. Keeping in tune with the Government’s vision to make India a globally competitive and innovation-driven market, the ‘Space Sector’ in India has opened up for private sector participation, thus opening the new vistas for greater innovation, R&D, employment opportunities, investment flow and connectivity.
Similar to the terrestrial communications in India, which witnessed a massive growth in the past two decades with the appropriate policy/regulatory interventions by the Government, space economy too needs the right impetus to contribute a sizeable chunk to the country’s GDP.Light touch policies and transparency are needed for new ideas and new start-ups in the country to come up and proliferate. Today, manufacturing of small/nano satellites, software development and applications specific to the Space ecosystem have opened hitherto restricted territory where only the large companies could find entry. Further, the newly created Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe) is expected to provide a level playing field for private companies
to use Indian space infrastructure through light touch policy recommendations.
ISRO, the mainstay of all Space activities in India thus far, is all set to allow private sector into their haloed precincts with the reforms enabling the private players to engage and carry out space activities. With the stage set for the Indian space economy armed with the liberalization of the space sector for non government private entities (NGPE) the industry needs to gear up and put on its thinking cap to take a well-timed advantage of this opportunity.
SIA-India encouraged by forward looking cooperation by ISRO which resulted in to oragnising a two day conference addressing myriad of critical issues to make it easy for large businesses, SMEs and early start-ups within the satellite ecosystem to take up the challenge and provide the proverbial leap into space segment.
The conference will address issues like market Trends& potential, collaborations, 'technology transfer’ among othersand Sr. Officials from DOT, DOS, ISRO, NSIL, other important Govt. bodies, Industry [India and International] and academia are invited to share their thoughts.
