Scott County School District 2Frequently Asked Questions

School Make Up Day- Extended Day- PM Hour**Additional Information for Scottsburg High School**

1. My child attends Prosser. What will his/her schedule be?• For students who attend AM Prosser, they will stay for the extra hour at SHS on the days that we have 5th,

6th, or 7th period at the end of the day. They may leave at 2:56pm on days that we have 1st, 2nd, or 3rd period at the end of the day. If they ride a bus home, they may go to the Media Center for the last hour on the days that they’re dismissed at 2:56pm.

• For students who attend PM Prosser, they will stay for the extra hour at SHS on the days that we have 1st, 2nd, or 3rd period at the end of the day. They may leave at 2:56pm on days that we have 5th, 6th, or 7th period at the end of the day. If they ride a bus home, they may go to the Media Center for the last hour on the days that they're dismissed at 2:56pm.

• For students who are in the Cosmetology program at Prosser, they will attend Cosmetology class as scheduled. Cosmetology students are responsible for making up the work that they miss in their classes that occur in the extra hour at SHS.

2. What about students who are on a modified schedule?• Students who attend SHS on a modified schedule for morning classes will be expected to return to SHS

from 2:56-3:56pm on days when their morning classes re-occur at the end of the day.• Students who attend SHS on a modified schedule for afternoon classes will be expected to stay at SHS until

3:56pm on days when their afternoon classes re-occur at the end of the day.

3. My child is signed up for the driver’s ed course that is offered at the Lifelong Learning Center. Can they still attend that class?• Students who are signed up for the driver's ed class at the Lifelong Learning Center are expected to stay at

SHS for the extra hour--the driver's ed class time is now 4:30-6:30pm.

4. Will “Why Try” and Credit Recovery still be held after school?• “Why Try” will not be held until we resume a normal schedule, so it should resume on April 15, 2014.• Credit Recovery will still end at 5:00pm; therefore, it will only last one hour during these extended days.

5. How will the extended school day affect disciplinary consequences?• After School Detention will be served as a lunch detention.• Friday Night School will be held from 4:00pm-5:00pm on Fridays.• In-School Suspension will end at 2:56pm, then those students should attend class from 2:56pm-3:56pm.

Clarification from the SCSD2 FAQ:1. What happens if my child is absent during an extended day?• Since SHS tracks attendance by class period, all absences on the extended days will be documented as a

full-day absence on the actual date plus a one-period absence on the date that corresponds with the period we are making up (see the extended day schedule for specific information).

Reminders from the SCSD2 FAQ:1. My child participates in after school activities (i.e. sports, clubs, etc...) at the school. What happens with their schedule? • The after school activity (i.e. sports, clubs, etc...) will be moved back one hour. In the event that we have

academic contests, athletic contests, or co-curricular competitions after school, our principals, coaches, and/or the athletic director will make necessary arrangements to accommodate our new dismissal time. Many area schools are doing the same plan so we'll work with them on establishing new start times.

2. My child works and has to be there at 4:00 p.m. What happens with this?• Students who have jobs and typically start work at 4:00pm are expected to stay at SHS for the extra hour--

we have contacted local employers and asked them not to schedule students to work at 4:00pm from February 24th through April 11th.
