This is the first news letter of 2016 and we would like to wish all of you and your families a Happy, Prosperous, Healthy and Safe New Year. At the outset we would also like to applaud the efforts put in by all the employees, which resulted in the company receiving awards across various businesses and in several categories during 2015.2015 was an eventful year by virtue of our company’s association with CII. It provided visibility to the company as well as learnings that are often difficult to acquire during day to day activities. A few points worth emphasizing are:1. Managers must be good listeners and be open to various points of view, particularly from the younger generation. 2. All of us must move outside our comfort zone and look beyond. For this, we need courage and willingness to learn. 3. We must prepare thoroughly to be able to engage in a meaningful discussion and be in a position to answer all questions. 4. Endeavour to learn from the outside world in all areas to be in a position to face the competitive environment. 5. Step beyond the short term and think long term in order to navigate business uncertainties, which could range from international trade to energy outlook.6. We must build strong relationships within the community we operate in as well as the government
machinery. This should be done through trust, humility, transparency and full compliance of regulations.7. Finally, focus must be on efficient and quick implementation of agreed strategies. The current year will see a large number of expansion projects rolling out. The capacity of our Chemicals facilities in Bharuch is being doubled and the first plant will be commissioned by mid 2016. A 20 MW power plant is under construction at Ajbapur and establishment of distilleries are being evaluated. Bioseeds is expanding its portfolio in existing crops as well as adding new crops. Its research efforts have been further enhanced to give a long term competitive edge through technology patents. Farm Solutions is adding to its range of crop protection products through tie ups as well as back end manufacturing. PVC, Fenesta and Shriram Axiall continue to focus on new product development. The end result of these steps are expected to approximately double our EBITA in 5 years. The company has embarked upon a very comprehensive upgrade of its IT infrastructure and this has been christened, project LEAP. This includes adopting the latest SAP software, S/4 Hana. It will place us amongst a handful of companies to implement this cutting edge technology and is expected to make business operations easy and efficient. We look forward to your continued support this year.

Increasing market share through mind shareA blueprint for excellence in farm solutions
To build trust and occupy the mind space of our
customers, we have adopted many innovative
platforms for developing long lasting relationships.
They include initiatives, such as, ‘Project STAMP’,
‘Shriram Ratna Wholesalers’, and ‘Follow the farmer
throughout the crop cycle as a solutions provider’.
As part of Project STAMP (‘Strategic Targeting for
Accelerated Marketing Performance’), our Cluster
In-charges regularly visit potential farmers in
selected clusters of villages on fixed days every
week. During these crop visits, they demonstrate
product performance, make need-based agronomic
recommendations, ensure the availability of products
at nearby points of sale and guarantee adequate
brand visibility.
Such repeat contacts round the year by our field
teams will help to occupy the customer’s mind
space and lead to enhanced business performance
and brand share.

Ensuring prominent productdisplay for Ziva at Sales Counters
In yet another initiative as part of Customer Relations
Programme, we provide specialized services and
privileges to Shriram Ratna Wholesalers, Star
Retailers and Samrat Farmers, respectively.
As a constant endeavour to introduce unique
products in the market, we have launched a specialty
product called Ziva. It is designed to increase
farm productivity and feed an ever-increasing
population by enhancing nutrient use efficiency
and water use efficiency. To promote this unique
product, we adopted a marketing strategy that is
two fold: Internal and external.
For internal customers, we organized product launch
functions where we briefed the trade partners about
product features, benefits and trade schemes. This
was followed by training programs for retailers
and field staff at various locations. Within a short
period, the unique product formulation, packaging
and price points became the talking point among
various trade partners and farmers, giving the
product a differentiated brand identity. On the
external front, our marketing efforts to acquire the
maximum brand recall among farmers focused on
“Showing Results”. We created a unique point of
purchase (POP) display at retail counters to lend
the product immediate recognition and deployed
dedicated teams of field staff to drive the promotion
campaigns in key crop clusters.
When we faced the challenge of promoting Shriram
Bt Cotton, we planned similar campaigns that
focused on product superiority. The best indicator
of our success is the fact that Shriram Bt cotton
has attained market leadership in North Bt Cotton
markets with more than 31 per cent market share.
To facilitate better brand recall, we carried out brand
reminder campaign through outsourced agencies
just before the seed-buying period.
Shriram Research Wheat seed is yet another example
where we increased our market share by occupying
the mind share of farmers and trade partners. We
organised Crop Shows and Field Days as our tools to
ramp up the volumes in this product category.

Farmer Training Program at Bhatinda
Soil Sampling Training Program at Mirzapur
Dr K. C. Nehra educating farmers onthe usage of yield enhancing products
Visiting the gene bank where seedsamples are stored at minus 20 degrees C
To stay on top of the customer’s mind, SFS organizes
regular events. Recently, on 5th December, we
celebrated the World Soil Health Day with a
two-week awareness program for spreading the
message of Healthy Soil for Healthy Life. As part of
this campaign, we organized 193 activities across
9 States at the village level to educate the farmers
and channel partners on balance fertilisation,
incorporation of organic matter in the soil and
soil test based fertilizers application. During this
period, we deployed our front-end team members
for conducting farmer and trade meetings on Soil
Health Management. These meetings were attended
by farmers, trade partners, officials of the agriculture
department and emphasized the importance of soil
testing to increase crop productivity, field training
about methods of soil sample collection, arranging
for soil testing, and use of balance fertilizers based
on the soil test reports.
At SFS, we believe in investing continuously to
occupy the mind space of our key customers–
the farmers, and the intermediate customers–the
trade partners, through business and non-business
activities under CSR. The best example of such
initiatives is the unique SHRIRAM KRISHI VIKAS
PROGRAM. This program seeks to educate the
farming families to increase the farm output by
using new generation agri-inputs and impart them
the techniques for the right methods of usage, safe
storage of farm produce, organic farming, girl child
education, human and animal health awareness and
organizing self help groups to improve their income.
Most significantly, our periodic customer surveys
show that irrespective of market share in different
product categories, the recall of brand SHRIRAM
is the highest among the farming community in
the core areas of its operations; and is gradually
improving in the emerging markets.
