Welcome to the Gethsemane Lutheran Church. Weare a small, progressive faith community, within theLutheran tradition, dedicated to ministry for and witholder adults. The transition from the world of workand career into the world of retirement is much morethan the “shutting down” of a vocation. These yearsare not about ending as much as they are about begin-nings: new experiences, new challenges, and new op-portunities. Together, through worship, music, edu-cation, fellowship, and service we explore this won-derland of possibilities. Come join our family. Wewould love to welcome you to Gethsemane LutheranChurch.

BEN ALI 2015 HOLIDAY CRAFT BAZAAR REPORTCarol Balbiani

All who participated in the Bazaar give yourselves a bigpat on the back – you did great.

The Bazaar was a great success! We cleared (moneybrought in minus expenses) more money than ever sincewe have been at the Scottish Rite Center – over $16,000went into the Transportation Fund. A special thank you tothe Central Sac Valley Shrine Club and Santa who donatedgenerously to the Transportation Fund through the Ba-zaar.

The clubs and units did a great job in making their tableslook festive. All the tables were gorgeous. Some of the tablelevels were taken up a step or two which gave the room anice dimension. Everything set a festive mood upon enter-ing the room.

The food did well, people liked the sandwiches made toorder and we sold out of the breakfast casserole, chili andthe minestrone soup. Guess we will be preparing a littlemore for this year.

Tina Macuha was there that morning to feature our Ba-zaar live on TV’s “Good Day” program and people at theBazaar said they came in because they saw us on the pro-gram. A thank you goes out to our First Lady MargaretLeutholtz for setting that up with Tina.

We were taking count this year and approximately 480customers came through the front doors.

The featured award winners this year are as listed be-low. Trophies go to the highest bid tree or wreath. Thewreath trophy was added new this year because it didn’tseem quite right to give a tree trophy for a wreath. Best ofShow goes to the people’s choice during the Bazaar (onevote per person).

Tannenbaum Trophy – Wrecking Crew Ladies treebrought in $200.

Wreath Trophy – Wrecking Crew Ladies wreath broughtin $80

Best of Show Tree – people voted for Keystone Cops La-dies tree.

Best of Show Wreath – people voted for Wrecking CrewLadies wreath.

Gingerbread House – 1st place winner $50 to Bob & MaryMonroe

2nd place winner $25 to Christi Schenk.Winner of the First Ladies Quilt – Susan Eggleston.Winner of the First Ladies Baby Quilt – Dan ScottWinner of the Red Skelton Picture – Ron Jaacks from Wis-

consinThank you to all who had a part in the event – from those

of you who were buying at the Bazaar to those selling atthe Bazaar and especially to those of you who worked allyear on making items to be sold. You all did a big part inhelping our Shrine children to get care at our hospital.

Margaret and I will be having a ‘new idea meeting’ later(after we get some R&R from 2015). All who want to par-ticipate in brainstorming possible new ideas for the Ba-zaar will be welcome. Information will be forthcoming.

Happy New Year and again a BIG THANK YOU to all!

KEYSTONE COP PATROLJohn Timblin, Secretary

Well our 2016 Captain started his year off right. Janu-ary 3rd found Captain Bill Pinkerton leading his Unit inthe first parade of the year. The parade was at the “Glo-bal Winter Wonderland” exhibit at Cal Expo but wait aminute. There was only one other Cop in the parade andhe was dressed as a prisoner. Could it have something todo with the fact that it was a “walking parade” or that itwas a nighttime parade or that it was colder than a welldiggers you know what or that it was threatening rain ormaybe all the above. Anyway we were there and madeour presence know to the public. Isn’t that what we aresupposed to do? After the parade we walked around theexhibit grounds and mingled with the public passing outour wooden nickels and raising awareness for our be-loved philanthropy, the Shriners Hospital for Children.Seeing the smiles on everyone’s faces was enough to keepme warm and make it all worthwhile. Oh…did I mentionI was that lone prisoner who braved the elements withour Captain? Anyway, we had fun…keep up the spiritCaptain, it’s gonna get better.

Wanna see a crabby Keystone Cop? Wanna see a crabbyBen Ali Clown? If you do then join us at our latest ven-ture, a crab feed. This will be the second year the Key-stone Cops and the Clowns have joined forces for thispopular event. There will be lots of activities going on

from an opportunity drawing, 50/50 drawing to a pieauction that will have cash money hidden in some of thepies. Now I’ve heard of a file being hid in a pie to assist ina jailbreak, but I guess this is the modern version wherethey smuggle bail money into the jail. We will be servingthe very best crab money can buy coming to us straight offthe Oregon/Washington coast. Mark your calendars andmake your reservations. Saturday, March 5, 2016, socialhour at 5:30 p.m. with dinner at 6:30 p.m. This will alltake place at the Ben Ali Activity Center. Cost is $45 whichincludes 2 complimentary drinks. See any Keystone Copor Clown for tickets. Come get “Crabby” with us.

Join us at our monthly meeting to learn a little moreabout our Unit. We meet the last Tuesday of the month. We meet at the Hart House with dinner around 6 p.m.followed with a meeting at 7 p.m. Contact me for details at(916) 300-0699 or [email protected] . Hope youcan make it.

MOTOR ESCORTKen Lopez, 1st Lieutenant

Motor Escort at your service. From assisting in parkingat Temple functions to leading the pack at parades. We’rethe group to follow, GPS not required. Hello everyone. 1stLieutenant Kenneth Lopez here with my first article.Wishme luck.

As we get older, it gets more difficult to find a BirthdayGift for your father. Will it be the right size? Will he likethe color? How difficult will it be to return? My fatherwas born in June 19?? And I found the perfect gift a soncan give his father.Asking for a petition. I joined Ben Aliin June of 2014 as a birthday gift to my father, Juan (John)Lopez. Sorry Dad, no returns, exchange or refund. I thankyou Dad for sponsoring me.

I found Motor Escort to be a perfect fit for my work sched-ule and personal life. My suggestion to our new Nobles(and non-new), find a club or two that make you feel wel-come and appreciated. I understand that life keeps youbusy, but you should take time for yourself. I enjoy beingaround these Nobles (Brothers) and they have a wealth ofknowledge to share. I must be doing something right, theymade me 1st Lieutenant!

With 2016 ahead, I’m looking forward to having morefun, friends and responsibilities. I wish to invite every-one to join in and participate this coming year.

Look for Motor Escort at the next parade. We’ll be infront.
