Congratulations to all attending for making this a success! A big THANK YOU to member Bill Thomas for bringing the most non-shriner guest to be on his team.

L to R: Jarred, Bill, Marshall & TimThe following weekend we attended the

Daughters of the Nile Installation . Congratulations to these ladies for their elected and appointed posi-tions and your willingness to serve with Goals to help us Shriners support the Shriners Hospitals for Children. We Thank you for your continued sup-port; I personally know a tremendous amount of Love goes in your projects sent to the hospitals.

On Sunday, we joined Chaplain Larry and Lady Joanne at Church Service. Thank you for opening this door to gather as Shriners in a setting other than normal. It was GREAT to see all in attendance.

We attended Divan Day at St.Louis Hospital, with tour and a full description of fund raising ideas

they are working on to help fund our new hos-pital being built. Check out the board at the Temple to see the new profile of the hospital.

April Stated meeting brought a clearer understanding of the Mirza bylaws. The cur-rent bylaws give the power of capital outlay to the elected officers under the direction of the nobilities vote. As for this Potentate, this is how it should be, since it’s all the nobility that pay their dues and work fundraisers to raise

the funds to operate and do repairs to the temple. Mirza’s Spring Ceremonial was a success! We

had eight candidates join our ranks. The parade was

a little moist but no-one melted or floated, lunch by the Past Potentates smelled and tasted GREAT , the Ritualistic Team presented the candidates with their excellent work, and the Directors Staff took over and ran them through the wash. I visited the ladies at their garden theme luncheon and toasted them for all the work they help us do. It looked like they were going to have a delicious lunch and fun with their drawing for gifts. Thanks to all the clubs, units, and personal donations of gifts to make the luncheon even more of a success. I apologize to the ladies for our work to take so long in the after-noon, but please understand that when we’re hav-ing so much fun it’s hard to put a halt on us. Thank you everyone for the hospitality and for working together in the Lower Level to make the day a suc-cess. And to you new Nobles, make it a point to attend the Fall Ceremonial on November 23 so you can sit back and have a few chuckles with us.

Kick-off Club Players Banquet had an above average attendance of Fezzes. It was exciting to see the young men and the enthusiasm of their parents to be participants of the Kansas Shrine Bowl. Thank you to Roger Doue for being Master of Ceremonies, the Chefs for preparing a SUPPER meal, the decorations were most fitting by Pete & Gwen Martin, Mike Sutcliffe of KINZ for intro-ducing the participants, the speaker whom had firsthand experience of being in the participant’s positions and to John & Joyce Manly and Mike & Beth Hamman (cont’d on Page 8)

W h e w ! The year is fly-ing by and at the “Deadline” of this issue I have 30 weeks and 5 days to a c c o m p l i s h goals and up-hold the P o t e n t a t e s oath to abide by the bylaws of Mirza Shriners and Shriners Int’l.

Since the last issue my lady and I have shared experiences of Shrinedom that we’ll remember for the rest of our lives.

The Nobells Lunch on April 6th was such an HONOR to be at the lunch table with sev-enteen lovely ladies that have worked at and attended Shrine functions for many years and have wonderful memories of Shriners. Desiree and her mother prepared the lunch, Keith Carr and I served, and we all enjoyed each other’s conversation around the table of “Hot” flowers. Thank you ladies for sharing your day with us!

The next day we joined the Provost Guard at their Spring Sporting Clay Shoot at Chanute’s Elks Lake. We had a great time, and

Jim is on the count-down of weeks and we have so much to do!

As Jim has written in his message, we’ve been busy and having a wonderful time.

First of all, I’d like to THANK all the Ladies and Men that helped make the Mirza 1st Lady’s Brunch an absolute wonderful morning for me. I just can’t express enough how beautiful the setting was to me, and then to add all of you that attended just simply made it more than beautiful, I can’t even find the right words to express. Thank you!

Secondly, ladies we have an unspoken task ahead of us. I was thinking the other day about the late Ron Whitworth and his wife Rhenda

(owners of Humboldt Speedway). Ron passed away last December and Rhenda is still running the Speedway because it was Ron’s dream to make it a success. Isn’t this what we would try to do if we lost our husbands? On July 19th, Humboldt Speedway is sponsoring “Shriners at the Hummer” (Hummer is how they refer the Speedway), the Whitworth’s will donate a $1.00 for every admission to Shriners Hospital in St. Louis. I don’t know if any of you are race fans, but for a family not related to “Shriners” in any way, that want to do this for our husbands philanthropy, we should stick together and support Rhenda Whitworth on this night. There are plans for a St. Louis patient ambassador to be there and a presentation to the Whitworth family for their support of Shriners and the last 3 years of Combine Derby’s. Make plans to take the family, wear a shrine shirt proud and support our husbands philanthropy.

Since I’m writing about the Speedway, I just as well let you all know: ROSEY (my combine) is ready to roll. She’s a beautiful blue and is out to take the challenge of holding her 1st place position. Notice the date has changed to the 14th! Make plans to attend this derby!

I would like to take this opportunity to Thank Recorder Keith Carr for his fine work in taking care of the office/temple this past 6 months. I believe he’s done a GREAT job. Also, I’d like to Thank Dustin Andrews and Mike Cotter, they have done wonders for Mirza with the new look of the MIRZAN and the Web Page. There are many more too numerous to mention, but Thank You for making this 1st half of 2013 go so smoothly!

Desiree Kepley, Mirza’s First Lady

First Lady’s MessageBy Keith Carr, Recorder

Here it is July and we are half-way through the year. We have accomplished some great events.

Spring Ceremonial was a success. Mirza created Eight new nobles. The Ceremonial was well attended and everyone had a good time.

The Potentate’s Shindig with a Buffalo roast dinner and music for dancing was a lot of fun.

The Family Picnic at Independence was a bit chilly but a good time was had by all who attended, lots of food, fun rides in the Independence park and the Krazy Karts provided fun transportation around the park.

If you didn’t make it, you missed out on sno-cones, with all kind of flavors.

The next major event will be the Kansas Shrine Bowl, the office will continue to process room reservation requests even though we have met our quota for the HQ’s hotel.

If you want to attend the Kansas Shrine Bowl Players Banquet, the KS Shrine Bowl office still has tickets available. Give them a call.

Also, Nobles you need to get your room reservations made and your registration fees paid to the office for C.S.S.A. in August at Branson. Deadline for both of these events is fast approaching.

If you haven’t paid 2013 dues, the best fundraisers you can do for Mirza is to get this years (2013) dues paid. You don’t have to travel out of town, just put your dues in a stamped envelope and send them in.The 2nd notices will soon be going out to those who have not paid 2013 dues. To avoid a 2nd notice letter please send in your 2013 dues.

We still have a lot of fun events coming up for this year. Don’t forget the stated meeting on July 17th. I look forward to seeing you at these events.

I am very proud to be your Recorder and thank you for allowing me to have that privilege.

St. Louis Construction UpdateBy Mirza Shrine Center Office

May 20, 2013 - Our building site, formerly a parking lot, has transformed into a project site with a hole dug for the foundation!

Prior to pouring the lower level foundation, the construction team will dig several narrow holes in the ground ane large cylinder shape frames called piers will be dropped in the holes and filled with concrete. Once this is complete, workers will begin filling in the rest of the foundation.

In addition to the lower level work, the second entrance to the hospital parking area has been made. This entrance is located off of Newstead Avenue.

Mike Hanner, our project manager from S.M. Wilson and Company tells us that the site/building will be changing more rapidly in the coming weeks. We will keep you posted with photos and updates!

The web cam is only a few weeks away from being launched…stay tuned!

The new floor plans for the hospital are shown and labelled on this page.

ONIONS!

Pote’s Message (cont’d)

Chaplain’s ReportBy Mirza Shrine Center Office

40,000 lbs. of onions arrived at Mirza Shrine Center May 6th and everyone who showed up to help, jumped in and did a terrific job.

They counted out pallets and bags of onions and loaded them onto trailers, pick-up trucks, and anything that would transport onions.

Then the Semi and a group of workers left to make stops to unload in Ft. Scott, Iola, Chanute and Coffeyville, where the last of the onions were off loaded

Now the fun started. All the clubs and units went out collecting donations for bags of onions. Mirza, once again was able to collect donations for all 40,000 lbs. of onions. Great job!!!

Donations collected have exceeded $31,000.00 with a couple of clubs/units that still need to turn in their money.

Job well done!

(cont’d from page 2) for help setting the room. All-in-all the evening went Great!

The 40,000 lbs of onions are gone! Mike Carnes had orders from clubs and units to get donations for 31,000 lbs. We stuck our necks out and ordered a truck load of 40,000 lb. Thanks to a few hard working nobles for making those investments of time and money to get donations for the extra 9,000 lbs. Your extra work doesn’t go un-noticed. Thank YOU !!!

The Potentate’s Shindig was exciting for Desiree and I. The Shindig Committee did a WONDERFUL job with the decorations that were just beautiful to us. The buffalo was good, but the homemade pie by our wonder-ful friend Kay Lewis, topped off the meal with my kind of desert. (Desiree says the pie table was absolutely gorgeous!) We had several family members in attendance. There were several introductions of dignitaries and thanks to the Provost Guard for escorting them all in. The band was country strong with our own Pat Robinson as drummer. We were having a great time, but I left the Shindig early to go meet my brand new granddaughter that arrived at 12:39am. Thanks to all for your support in making this event successful for MIRZA.

May 25th was a day of parading. We started at Stark @10am with a reading of the description of the care Shriners Hospitals give to children, written by Chaplain Larry Lindberg. (Desiree said she over-heard several comments as they didn’t know that the hospitals took care of so many needs.) A presentation of Memorial Honors were given followed by a West then East parade with the Color Guard, MG’s, Divan, Hardley Able Fire Dept., Oriental Band and SEKCATS units in attendance. A delicious oasis followed, with the Lindberg’s as host. Then off to Yates Center for the 3:00 parade. Around the square in front of hundreds of Woodson County folks the Color Guard, MG’s with Divan, Oriental Band, Three-Wheelers, Hillbillies, and SEKCATS trudged through the crowd to end at the Yates Center Lodge for a refreshing oasis. Thanks to all who gave effort to attend to make Shriners stand even more proud.

June 2nd was Mirza Family Picnic in Independence with 85 in attendance. Oscar and Nadene Ervin headed up this day of fun to start off the International Awareness week. The Chefs prepared wonderful hamburgers and hot dogs,

Friends Home Lutheran Church, Savonburg, KS. I am happy to report that the 11:00 a.m. service was well attended by many

Shriners and their ladies. In recognition of the Shriners charitable work, the Friends Home Church

council voted to donate $500.00 to the hospital in St. Louis. Thank you, Nobles and ladies, your support is very much appreciated.
