Note From The Arts Department

The Enloe High School Arts Department selected the performance of Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker and Duke Ellington’s The Nutcracker Suite, to introduce our students to many educational units that address the performance of artistic techniques and styles, create interdisciplinary learning opportunities via the multiple arts disciplines that are offered at Enloe, and increase student knowledge and skills through the mastery and study of the embedded learning objectives. This project has challenged student growth and developed even greater young artists, performers, and patrons of the arts. The Enloe Arts Faculty embedded WCPSS’s educational objectives of the 4 C’s: collaboration, critical thinking, creativity, and communication through the cross curricular performance objectives. Students and faculty collaborated via artistic visioning and planning. Critical thinking skills have been used when evaluating student growth and learning as a result of participating in this performance. Communication skills will be evident in the final summative performance and in the promotion of the event. Creativity will be threaded throughout the lessons and units and has been the foundation of most of the project. The Enloe Broadcasting and Productions Department has documented the event from inception to the end. The film footage will capture the impactful experience of the project. The Enloe Visual Art classes have created art that will be displayed around campus and will be auctioned off at the event to raise money for Charity Ball. All of the visual art will live in the homes and spaces of those who purchase the fabulous student work.

Thank you!

Partnering with Enloe Charity Ball as the beneficiary of the performance will provide an immediate monetary benefit to the school’s local community; however, the long-term value is intangible. Students and teachers who participate will be impacted by the long lasting learning of this experience. The Enloe Charity Ball beneficiary, Southeast Raleigh Promise, will benefit from the gift for years to come. The greatest long term value will resonate in the hearts of those who provide witness to the event. It is the Enloe Arts Department’s hope that the viewers will hold this experience in their hearts and pay it forward to others. Happy Holidays!

This show is supported by the United Arts Council of Raleigh and Wake County

Dream(Atrium)

Come slide sleepily into this ethereal hall to dream a while. Once swoon by the chorus you’ll have to pinch yourself—but the poets will help you land softly on your pill. But before you wake, the ground might shake as tap-dancers chime in giving

rhythm like locomotion to these little revieres. _____

Enloe Charity Ball Enloe Charity Ball (ECB) is a student-led organization that seeks to raise funds and awareness for a local nonprofit each year. Students lead a fundraising effort in the fall that culminates in the ball in December where the check with the final fundraising total is presented to the charity. This year, ECB is attempting to raise $200,000 to meet #OurPromise to Southeast Raleigh Promise. In this effort, we have surpassed $1 million in total fundraising in our 15 years of service.

“We had over 46 organizations that applied to be the beneficiary of this year’s Enloe Charity Ball, and although we would’ve loved to support each one, we chose the organization with the most tangible impact on our direct community,” says Sydney Marks, Enloe Charity Ball’s Vice President of Service. “Leading high school students who perform and exceed professional levels of philanthropy tells me we are left with one option: to recognize the power and strength of student voice in our community,” said George “Nate” Barilich, Director of Enloe Charity Ball and English teacher at Enloe. “These kids are doing not kid things. I wake up for them. They are my heroes.”

Page 17: Showtimes - Wake County Public School SystemSecure Site ...Ellington’s The Nutcracker Suite, to introduce our students to many educational units that address the performance of artistic

“We are extremely honored and excited to partner with Enloe Charity Ball this year! Enloe has always been a significant part of our community and this opportunity deepens that historic relationship to Southeast Raleigh. We are most excited about the ways young people can affect significant change when they have the space and support to lead,” says Kia Baker, the Executive Director of Southeast Raleigh Promise. SERP seeks to provide high-quality education, safe and affordable housing, health and wellness, and expanding economic and leadership opportunities to residents of southeast Raleigh. Proceeds will enable SERP to fund multiple projects to end intergenerational poverty in the southeast Raleigh area through educational programs, including Club ROAR, a low-cost after school academic enrichment program for students attending Southeast Raleigh Elementary School. Enloe Charity Ball student leaders are volunteering hundreds of hours at Club ROAR as part of their service promise.
