ADHESIVES, SEALANTSAND CLEANERS

Recommended productsto fit and maintain yourShowerwall panelling. It is recommended that Showerwall’s ownbrand of adhesive, sealants and cleaner areused for the effective fitting and maintenanceof the product.

SUGGESTED REQUIREMENTFor a 1000mm wide panel, approximately1 cartridge of Showerwall adhesive and1 cartridge of Showerwall sealant is required.

Showerwall sealant forms a strong securebond even between two non-porous surfaces.Showerwall sealant has a high degree ofelasticity, which ensures that the bondremains firm during the natural expansion andcontraction of the panelling.

The use of any alternative products mayinvalidate your guarantee.

Sealant needs to be replaced periodically.Failure to do this may cause water ingressand subsequent panel damage.

The hard wearing surface of the panelling canbe hygienically cleaned with Showerwall spraycleaner which is a mild non-abrasive cleanerwith an anti-bacterial agent.

IMPORTANTFailure to comply with the Showerwall installation instructions including the recommended use of Showerwall sealant and adhesive may invalidate yourguarantee and can result in the following problems: • Delamination of panels • Bowing • Colour fading • Protruding across the joints of the Showerwallpanel.

No claims will be accepted on fitted panelswith visual defects.

Cutting panelsWhen cutting the panels to width and heightwith a handsaw, the decorative face should beupwards. When cutting with a jigsaw or circularsaw, the decorative face should be downwards.

Finishing a cut edgeFile the panel edge at a slight angle awayfrom the laminate edge.

Pipes and accessoriesLeave a 3-4mm clearance around all pipes andaccessories and seal with a bead of Showerwallsealant. If a collar is to be fitted first seal withShowerwall sealant. Omitting the sealant orusing an inferior sealant type could invalidatethe guarantee if failure is clearly caused byexcessive water ingress.

STEP 2WALL PREPARATION

Fixing to wooden battens(tongue & groove and square edge panels)It is recommended that all panels are fixed totreated battens (tongue and groove panelsmust be fixed on to vertical and horizontalbattens and not directly to the wall) usingShowerwall adhesive to provide a level surfaceto ensure an asymmetrical joint is achieved.Treated timber battens approximately 50mmx 25mm should be fixed horizontally with oneat the head and base of the panels withadditional vertical battens at arecommended distance of 500mm apart.

They should be plumb and parallel to eachother to give a solid base for fixing the panelswith Showerwall adhesive.

Wash hand basins, towel rails and other heavyitems should have additional battens behindthem to give a secure fixing.

Fixing to tiles, plasterboard or plasteredwall (square edge panels only)If fixing to the walls without treated battensit is essential that all walls are sound, completely dry and clean before claddingwith Showerwall panels. Any source ofdampness MUST be treated before fixing. If fixing direct to a tiled surface it must besound and degreased.

Showerwall sealant must be used as thefixing adhesive when sticking the panels toceramic tiles.

All surfaces must be flat, sound and clean fromdirt and dust. If the walls are uneven and out ofplumb treated battens must be used as a fixingmethod. When fitting treated battens it mustbe ensured that they are fixed level and square.

Showerseal is a 2 part system for shower traysand baths comprising of a PVC strip and highperformance Showerwallwhite silicone.

Showerwall recommend Showerseal for use on all applicationsaround showers and baths. To maintain the complete effectivenessof your Showerwall system it is necessary to replace any damagedsealant prior to installation to prevent water ingress.

1Measure and cut strips to lengthand notch corners as shown usingsuppliedmitre box.

2 Lay strips in position to checkmitre cuts and notchesmatch. With the strips in position, lightlymark the ledge (at 3 points) todefine the outer edge of each stripon the shower tray ledge.

3 If outer edge of the strip is notresting on the ledge, score andtear off the removable inner legas shown.

4Wipe shower tray ledges withsupplied cleaning wipes. InsertShowerseal upside down into themitre box.Do not remove greenstrip from Showerseal.Rest Showerwall sealant nozzle onstrip lay an 8mmdiameter line ofsealant along full length of strip.

5 Spread sealant in strip withspatula as shown above.Redistribute or add sealant ifrequired. Ensure sealant is butteredflush with ends of strip.

6With finger under nozzle andfingertip against wall as guide, lay astraight 8mm line of sealant on thefirst ledge just inside the 3marksindicating the outer edge of thestrip. Lay a 5mm line of sealant.

7 Place strip into position fusingthe sealant in strip with thesealant on ledge to makewatertight. Nail/screw strip to wall.Remove excess sealant. Buttermitre joints with sealant to ensurefusion of sealant across corners.

PANEL INSTALLATION:STEP 4 FIXING TONGUE & GROOVE PANELS

See Step 2 for fixing battens.Note:When Showerseal is not used theShowerwall panel should have a 3mmgap atthe base of the panel and above the showertray. This gapmust be filled with ShowerwallSealant. Before pushing the panels togetherthe shoulder of the tongue profile shouldhave a continuous line of Showerwall Sealantdown the length of the Showerwall panelto ensure that the joint remains sealed.Sealant needs to be replaced periodically.

Where to startStarting at a corner of the room, workingaway from this position. The last panel isfitted above the doorway, placed in positiontongue first and swung into position. All panels must be correctly aligned andplumb, allowing for 3mm expansion gapswhich must be sealed with Showerwall sealantat the top and bottom of the panel. Fix panelsto battens using Showerwall panel adhesive.Seal all panel joints using Showerwall sealant.

Tongue & grooveVertical edges tongue & groove giving finishedpanelling a smooth, easily maintained surface. Each panel has asymmetrical tongued andgrooved vertical edges to give 5mm of jointoverlap. When sealed with Showerwall sealanta waterproof joint is assured.

PLEASE NOTE:Pattern match is not guaranteed.

Begin panellingFirst fix a Showerwall internal corner profile inposition ensuring that it is plumb. ApplyShowerwallsealant to the recess of the profile.Apply Showerwalladhesive to the battens.Insert the first panel after removing the smallertongue, or cutting to size. Then continue topanel away from the corner, fixing panels tobattens with Showerwall adhesive, and sealingjoints with Showerwallsealant. Allow for 3mmexpansion gaps, filled with Showerwallsealant.

Continue panelling around the room fixingeach panel to the battens with Showerwalladhesive. Seal tongue and groove joints usingShowerwallsealant.

Use internal and external corner profiles, sealingwith Showerwall sealant, where appropriate.
