Show me the way!

Instructions

Research shows that vocabulary is the best indicator of academic achievement. Yet little has been done to make vocabulary instruction more efficient. That’s why we worked with experts from Cambridge University to find the words that children come across in books. Our words are chosen carefully because no one has time to learn random words.

Visually engaging materials are more effective. So we wanted to create educational tools that really hook you in. That’s why we teamed up with the Hollywood artist behind Madagascar.

We give you a cartoon for every word. And we choose our words wisely.

Mrs Wordsmith is the first company to bring creativity and science together in this way.

5

Welcome to the 10,000

Word Journey

6

Don’t get tripped up. There are 10,000 words your child needs to know by the age of 17. Learn them over time, without cramming. Keep reading to find out how your journey starts.

7

8

The first step in your journey is to learn 1500 storytelling words.

These words form the building blocks of narrative writing. Over six months, your child will learn words to describe the following:

month 1 charactermonth 2 the weathermonth 3 tastes & smellsmonth 4 actionsmonth 5 emotionsmonth 6 settings

9

Follow our simple instructions and your child will learn a word or two a day, in just minutes.

10

Little and often is the key to success. This programme was designed for busy parents. It’s efficient. Don’t work harder, work smarter.

414

See it. Learn it.Children remember what they see on the walls. Just like at school.

Word pairs put the 10,000 words in context

crave

20

Word pairs are words that often appear together in texts. We use data to find the highest frequency pairs, so that we can teach English words as they are actually used. Instead of simply learning the definition of crave, kids will learn how to use it. For example: people crave power, coffee, and love. Essentially, children can learn howto have a writer’s intuition in a matter of minutes.
