Shot Count – Lana Del Rey Born To Die

After watching Lana Del Rey’s music video for her debut

single ‘Born to Die’ I noted that within the first two

minutes of the video, there are only two scenes.

Therefore only jump cuts were used in the editing of this

music video. However I counted many different shots

which can be seen in the top left corner. As you can see, medium shots and

close ups were the two main camera angles that were used during the music

video. This is because the music video is a diegetic narrative which is narrated

from the perspective of Lana Del Rey. The song is about falling in love and

living life on the wilder side. However, the video and music test these lyrics in a

way that they contrast. The slow movement of the camera angles contrast

with the meaning of the lyrics.
