12 Teach us to realize the brevity of life,

so that we may grow in wisdom.

13 O LORD, come back to us!

How long will you delay?

Take pity on your servants!

14 Satisfy us each morning with your unfailing love,

so we may sing for joy to the end of our lives.

15 Give us gladness in proportion

to our former misery!

Replace the evil years with good.

16 Let us, your servants, see you work again;

let our children see your glory.

17 And may the Lord our God show us his approval

and make our efforts successful.

Yes, make our efforts successful!

extra

(Psalm 90:12-17)

1) What phrases do

use the most when

you pray?

2) Which of God’s names or

titles do you use most

frequently in prayer?

3) How many of verses 12-

17 are written in first-person

plural? How does this affect

how we apply the psalm?

Grow your wisdom in us.

(v12)

The main request is

for God to teach us.

The secondary verb in this

verse, to gain, carries a

particular imagery: to enter,

to go in, or to carry in.

4) How does wisdom being

described as a place we can

go into help you understand

this verse?

Hold us with mercy—now please.

(v13)

5) Which of the below

synonyms is the most

meaningful to you these

days?

Mercy Compassion

Pity Comfort

6) How meaningful to you is

the thought of Our Heavenly

Father embracing you?

Which imagedo you prefer

to go along with verse 14?

Why?

Satisfy us todayand always.

(v14)

The language here is

the same as one

might use to describe having

a full stomach…except it

also hints at having more

than enough.

8) What do you think is the

significance of pairing “each

morning” & “to the end of

our lives” in this verse?

Redeem allour heartaches.

(v15)

This verse may be

banking on the belief

that “God never wastes a

hurt.” Or, it’s simply saying,

“We’ve had enough. Make

something good happen for

a change.”

9) Do you feel “heartaches”

is an accurate word choice

in the paraphrased line?

How would you say it?

Let us (and the next generation)

see you work.(v16)

This double prayer—

for us and for those

coming after us—carries

both requests: “Be active in

& around us,” and “Help us

pay attention & notice.”

10) Whom do you know that

may not be noticing God

right now? List them, and

pray for them to be able to

notice God’s activity.

Help us succeedat good things.

(v17)

This verse may seem

unspiritual at first

glance. Yet, it’s really asking

for help using our limited

time to do what matters &

what lasts. We don’t just

mind our own business; we

want to be part of God’s

business.

11) How many of your

pursuits are godly pursuits?

It may be most noticeable in v12, but the whole psalm

sings with a sense of urgency.

12)

How well does your own sense of

urgency for living with God & for Christ keep

pace with Psalm 90’s sense of

urgency?

one-liners (or your own version)

are you most likely to incorporate into

your prayer vocabulary?
