short introduction on sofics - solutions for ics
DESCRIPTION
Sofics® is the world leader in on-chip electrostatic discharge (ESD) and electrical overstress (EOS) solutions for ICs. Our technology is proven in all of the world’s major foundries and process nodes, and has been successfully implemented in more than 2000 chip designs from IC companies of all sizes. Our TakeCharge® portfolio of on-chip solutions offers unique advantages in any IC design requiring custom or specialty I/Os, from 0.18um down to 28nm. TakeCharge technology enables twice the I/O performance in applications that run at high frequencies or high speeds. In low-power applications it delivers ESD protection with leakage that is orders of magnitude lower than generic solutions. When applications call for more robust ESD/EOS protection, TakeCharge outperforms all other approaches while occupying far less silicon area. Sofics also offers PowerQubic® technology, a breakthrough in delivering robust on-chip EOS solutions in high-voltage applications. PowerQubic handles all system-level ESD/EOS requirements. We also partner with other IC experts to develop integrated design solutions for specialized applications CustomIO. Sofics recently collaborated with ICsense to build a stable, fully ESD-protected I/O in both 40nm and 28nm that interfaces 1.8V gates with legacy 3.3V off-chip devices. Sofics solutions are highly cost-effective. An IP license from Sofics is more economical than adding staff to an ESD department or hiring a consultant. It is also more cost-efficient than buying shuttle space to develop alternative solutions. Since our solutions are foundry and field-proven, licensees get IP that works the first time. This eliminates the need for expensive re-spins and gets the product to market faster. With our large and growing portfolio of patented IP, in most cases the precise ESD/EOS solution you need will be available off the shelf. Our TakeCharge customers include many of the world’s leading IC makers, and our PowerQubic portfolio has been licensed by a top tier foundry to offer to their customers. We are happy to discuss how we can serve your ESD/EOS needs.TRANSCRIPT

ZMDI Licenses Sofics® PowerQubic® ESD ClampsAutomotive EMC Requirements on 0.18um 24V Chips
ZMDI decided to work closely with Sofics on PowerQubic ESD/EOS protection for their latest devices fabricated in a TSMC 0.18um gen II BCD (bipolar-CMOS-DMOS) process with 24V interfaces.“Automotive electronics are exposed to high levels of electrical stress, so ZMDI needsthe best available ESD/EOS protection for our products,” said Frank Shulze, Business Line Manager, Sensing and Automotive. “We ran evaluations of several ESD solutions for chips fabricated in a 0.25um BCD process. PowerQubic clamps were superior in the EMC test, as well as in parameters such as meeting flexible clamping voltage specifications. “So we selected Sofics to provide ESD/EOS protection for a new line of 0.18um devices that will meet our specifications, at a lower cost than building the clamps from scratch.”

Selects Sofics to Develop On-ChipESD Protection for 60V Products
Sofics has been selected by Analog Devices (ADI) to develop a library of on-chip electrostatic discharge and electrical overstress (ESD/EOS) clamps based on its PowerQubic technology for ADI devices with 60V interfaces. The clamps will enhance the reliability of the devices by protecting them from ESD, EOS, and latchup, while enabling maximum performance.
PowerQubic provides robust on-chip protection for high-voltage interfaces in such applications as power control and mixed signals without the need for costly process changes. David Robertson, vice president of analog technology for ADI. “We need strong, sophisticated ESD protection for 60V devices without compromising the mixed signal performance of the products and we look forward to working with Sofics to that end.

NVIDIA Licenses Integrated, Overvoltage-Tolerant I/O and ESD Technology from Sofics® and ICsense
GISTEL & LEUVEN, BELGIUM (April 24, 2012) – Sofics® bvba (www.sofics.com) of Gistel, a leading provider of ESD solutions for ICs, and ICsense (www.icsense.com) of Leuven, a prominent designer of analog, mixed-signal, and high-voltage ICs and turnkey ASICs, today announced that NVIDIA has licensed their integrated ESD and I/O technology to provide a stable 3.3V I/O with robust ESD protection on its Icera® modem processors that use 1.8V transistors .
The license includes customized ESD solutions from Sofics and ICsense’s overvoltage-tolerant I/Os. These solutions are based on a novel circuit technique proven in TSMC 0.18um, 40nm, and 28nm processes that allows I/Os to handle more than 2X the voltage of the transistors on the chip.
