The City Council worked through a months- long process of hiring a recruiting firm, reviewing resumes and conducting interviews. During that time they narrowed the list of candidates for the position from many to one, with Ms. Ferrell Benavides ultimately being offered the position. A Texas native, she started her career in local government with the City of Fort Worth, Texas. She cites her education, ongoing pursuits of additional training, and having experience with both large and small municipal governments as distinguishing qualifications for the role of City Manager. A goal of hers has been take on a position within a municipality that operates as a Council-Manager form of government, which Duncanville provides as part of its charter. This form of government combines strong political leadership in its elected council and that council in turn hires a professional manager to oversee the delivery of services. When asked during a November 23 rd Town Hall what her first priorities would be, Ferrell-Benavides responded by saying, "Initially, it's to listen, engage, assess and deliver. Truly engaging with and understanding not only the vision of the Council is, but all of the stakeholders in the community. That's what you expect from a City Manager." "My desire to be in Duncanville is tied to helping those who don't have a voice," She said when asked why she wanted this position. It's because of seeing the individuals leading this organization and believing I can carry their vision forward." DUNCANVILLE VOTES: DISTRICT 2 ELECTION RESULTS A runoff between incumbant Councilmember Don McBurnett and challenger Misty Bain was held due to neither receiving the majority of votes during the November 3 rd Election. Early voting for the runoff was held from November 23 rd to December 4 th . Election Day for the runoff was held on December 8 th and an unofficial winner was announced that evening. Early Voting Total Votes Percentage Don McBurnett (Incumbent) 161 208 52.39% Winner Misty Bain 138 189 47.61% Total 299 397 100% PREPARATIONS BEGIN FOR 2021 CITY OFFICERS ELECTION The 2021 City Officers election will be held Saturday, May 1st. Duncanville voters will go to the polls to elect the Councilmember At Large, and Councilmembers to represent Districts 1, 3, and 5 for the upcoming two-year term. EL AYUNTAMIENTO SELECCIONA NUEVA ADMINISTRADORA DE LA CIUDAD

El martes 7 de diciembre de 2020, el Ayuntamiento de Duncanville llevó a cabo una reunión especial y votó para contratar a Aretha Ferrell-Benavides como administradora de la ciudad de Duncanville.

El Ayuntamiento trabajó a lo largo de un proceso de meses de contratar a una firma de reclutamiento, revisión de currículums y realización de entrevistas. Durante ese tiempo se redujo la lista de candidatos para la posición de muchos a uno, y finalmente se le ofreció el puesto a la Sra. Ferrell-Benavides.

Nativa de Texas, comenzó su carrera en el gobierno local en la ciudad de Fort Worth, Texas. Ella cita su educación, la búsqueda continua de capacitación adicional y su experiencia con gobiernos municipales tanto grandes como pequeños como calificaciones distintivas para el papel de Administrador Municipal.

Uno de sus objetivos ha sido asumir un puesto dentro de un municipio que opera como una forma de gobierno de Consejo-Administrador, que Duncanville ofrece como parte de su carta. Esta forma de gobierno combina un fuerte liderazgo político en su consejo electo y ese consejo, a su vez, contrata a un administrador profesional para supervisar la prestación de servicios.

"El servicio público no se trata solo de ser un Administrador de la Ciudad, se trata de servicio. Servir a los residentes. Servir a la gente de Duncanville. Eso es lo que veo en nuestros Miembros del Consejo y eso es lo que veo en mí mismo. Eso es lo que me impulsa. Entonces, ¿por qué siento que soy la mejor opción? Es porque veo a las personas liderando esta organización y creer que puedo llevar a su visión hacia adelante."

El primer día de Aretha Ferrell-Benavides con la Ciudad de Duncanville será el 22 de febrero de 2021.

DUNCANVILLE VOTA: RESULTADOS DE LAS ELECCIÓNES DEL DISTRITO 2Se llevó a cabo una segunda vuelta entre el actual Miembro del Consejo Don McBurnett y la aspirante Misty Bain debido a que ninguno de los dos recibió la mayoría de los votos durante las elecciones del 3 de noviembre.

La votación anticipada para la segunda vuelta se llevó a cabo del 23 de noviembre al 4 de diciembre. El día de las elecciones para la segunda vuelta se llevó a cabo el 8 de diciembre y esa noche se anunció un ganador no oficial.

COMIENZAN LOS PREPARATIVOS PARA LA ELECCIÓN DE OFICIALES DE LA CIUDAD DE 2021 La elección de funcionarios de la ciudad de 2021 se llevará a cabo el sábado 1 de mayo. Los votantes de Duncanville irán a las urnas para elegir al Concejal En General y Miembros del Consejo para representar a los Distritos 1, 3 y 5 para el próximo período de dos años.
