shongram - the movie
DESCRIPTION
Writer / Director Munsur Ali - Shongram (struggle) is the tale of Karim, a British Bangladeshi on his deathbed, finally sharing an oral account with a daring London reporter, as he reflects back on his youth, lost love, his home land and the liberation war of Bangladesh, which like many, he unwillingly became a part of Karim reveals a world where he was compelled to go underground and live with guerrilla fighters near a remote village, while offering first hand eye witness accounts to the genocide, torture and rape, that forced him to seek revenge, before he could finally search for his childhood sweetheart. This is the first international film of this calibre, it is written and to be directed by a British Bangladeshi. Shongram is a historic film in the making, it is gritty, raw, romantic and nostalgic, while having an international appeal through the production techniques and a subject matter which is still very relevant today.TRANSCRIPT
