P&C Fun Run
We will be holding an adidas School Fun Run as a major fundraising event
this year. The event will be held on Tuesday, 29 July within the school grounds.
The adidas School Fun Run is a healthy, fun and active fundraiser that en-
sures we send the right message to our students about getting active, having fun and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. The main focus of this
event is on participation. Family support is most appreciated as we en-courage all students to get involved.
All students will receive a Sponsorship Form today, to help collect spon-
sorship on behalf of the school. The funds raised will be used to pur-chase new play equipment for the Early Stage 1 playground.
We ask all parents to read the Sponsorship form and sign the front page
to grant permission for their child to fundraise and participate in this event. Students who raise just $10 or more will receive a reward for
their effort. In the
Sponsorship form you will also find many other benefits like the chance to win a family holiday to Disneyland! Students wanting to track their
progress and use online fundraising, can do so by logging onto schoolfun-run.com.au/students and creating a Student Profile Page.
Finally, we would like to welcome parents and family members to attend
the adidas School Fun Run event day at the school on Tuesday, 29 July to help cheer on our students. If you would like to volunteer to help out on the day please contact the school on 4981 1007. Thank you,
good luck and happy fundraising!

Stage 3 Excursion to Sydney
Our Years 5 and 6 students, staff and parents arrived safely back to school last Friday evening following three days filled with wonderful experiences in Sydney. They were looking very weary and happy to be back home ready to share their favourite stories with their families. Excursions like this take a huge amount of time to prepare and a huge thank you must go to Mr Bayliss for his time and hard work to ensure that this event would be successful. These excursions also mean that staff and parents helpers give up a great deal of their time to be away from their homes and families. Thank you to our Years 5 and 6 teachers, Mr Bayliss, Mrs Bzadough, Mr Hamshaw and MrBeck and parents helpers, Mrs Farmer, Ms Dean, Mr Fitzpatrick, Mrs Squires and Mrs Phillips.
Gonski Funding
In 2012, the NSW Government announced its Local Schools, Local Decisions (LSLD) reform for NSW public schools. This reform places students at the centre of school decision making. It gives principals and school communities a greater say over how they use the available resources to best meet the needs of their students.
To enable the shift of resources to the school level, a Resource Allocation Model (RAM) has been developed. The RAM provides a sim-pler, fairer and more transparent distribution of government school funding and changes the way resources are managed in our school system.
At Shoal Bay Public School this funding has enabled us to employ extra teachers to assist students and staff in the classroom who have additional learning needs. These teachers have assisted in running programs such as multi-lit, reading and math groups, Kindergarten Orientation programs and individual student assessments. The funding has also provided extra assistance for students with additional needs who are not eligible for funding support and Aboriginal students. We have been able to employ extra School Learning Support Officers (teachers aides) to assist children in classrooms and the playground across the school. All staff have also been able to have planning days, extra time allocated for parent teacher interviews and additional professional learning time via this funding. None of this would have been possible without this funding.
Our 2015 Annual Report, which will be published in April 2016, will give a detailed overview of how this funding was used to assist us to meet milestones in our 2015 – 2017 SBPS plan and provided the resources we need so that all children were able to get the education they deserve.
Funding 2016
Last week Premier, Mike Baird, and the Minister for Education, Adrian Piccoli, opened the annual Primary Principal’s Association Conference in
Sydney and took the opportunity to announce the 2016 Resource Allocation Model (RAM). In an email since then it has been confirmed that “in 2016 schools will see additional funding to support their school’s operation and student learning needs. This includes the RAM base components for:
A new per capita allocation
Enhanced funding for professional learning
Funding to meet the actual cost of gas and electricity in all schools. For the first time every NSW public school will receive a summary RAM report that shows its full funding allocation, including staffing and operational costs.”
These additional funds have been allocated in a way consistent with the Gonski review. We will continue to receive equity loadings for socio-economic background, Aboriginal background, English language proficiency and low level adjustment for disability.
Next Friday our staff will be celebrating National Gonski Day by wearing green as we highlight the difference made in our school by the
introduction of the Gonski funding and LSLD reforms.
Planning 2016
This term we will begin planning classes for 2016. If you know that you will be relocating in the near future and will not be returning to Shoal Bay Public School we would appreciate it if you could contact the office to let us know.
Entry to Government Selective High Schools for Year 7 entry in 2017
Applications for placement in Year 7 at a selective high school in 2017 will be open to parents of students in Year 5 from 13 October to 16 November 2015.
Detailed instructions on how to apply online are available at www.schools.nsw.edu.au/shsplacement. The application website is open and closes on 16 November 2015. No late applications will be accepted. Copies of the printed application information booklet are also available from the office.
Parents are able to email the High Performing Students Unit: [email protected] or telephone: 1300 880 367 if they have enquiries not covered in the application information booklet.
Little Learners (Kindergarten 2016)
We have one more session to transition our Kindergarten students from Little Learners into future Shoal Bay Public Schools students. Last week they met their possible buddies for next year. This was a very exciting time for our Year 4 students as it marks the beginning of their leadership journey as the student leaders in our school. Term 4 events really help to prepare our Year 4’s for their Year 5 beginning, just like it prepares our Pre-schoolers for Kindergarten.
Stranger Danger - Children's safety first!
Our student's safety is of utmost importance here at Shoal Bay PS. We are constantly discussing with all our students ways to keep safe in and around the school. Stranger Danger is one of those topics we visit regularly. Please take the time to discuss this issue with your children to make sure they are aware how important it is for them to stay safe.

Dear parents and everybody who loves reading!
Shoal Bay Public School will be hosting a Carnival Book Fair from November 16 – 19 (Week 7).
Carnival Book Fairs provide quality books from a range of publishers for us to display in the library, all at discounted prices. Every book you
purchase helps us build on the wonderful resources that we have in our school! It is a great opportunity to get some of the Christmas shopping done!
I will be looking for some volunteers to help run the bookfair and make it a success so please watch this space!
Thankyou for your support.

This year National Gonski Week will be held between October 26 and November 1.
NSW schools will be able to provide more opportunities and support for their students after the State Government released the school-by-school amounts for Gonski funding in 2016. The $113 million in extra funding will go straight to schools and build on the additional $97 million delivered in
2015 and the additional $100 million delivered in 2014.
The New South Wales Gonski funding is already making a real difference in our school and means that Shoal Bay Public School will be able to continue and expand the valuable programs we have put in place as a result of this funding to further benefit our students.
At Shoal Bay Public School we will are supporting this valuable campaign through various activities and on Friday which is National Teacher’s Day,
staff will be wearing green to show our support for the Gonski campaign.
