Job Title: Shipping & Logistics Manager Reports to: Operations Revision Date: April 2013 Department: Shipping Salary: $60,000 to $70,000 yearly Depending on Experience Classification: FT with benefits Job Purpose: Supporting the Shipping Department, plan and direct daily departmental operations activities for the Shipping Departments. Ensure accurate forecasting of resource requirements. Maintain effective communication with Customer Service, Production and related manufacturing functions to provide a leadership role in maximizing customer service. Position Duties: Work closely with Customer Service and Production to assure oversight of orders and on-time delivery. Assure shipping operations are compliant with Company policies, carrier requirements and legal standards. Supervise assigned personnel. Establish productivity and quality standards and monitor individual performance. Direct reports include, but may not be limited to, 15-20 Hourly Associates. Assure that all employees receive proper training on the job, with safety procedures, hazardous materials, ISO 9001 requirements, and timely company issues. Build employee schedules; review and approve assigned employees' timecards. Identify and implement improvements to shipping department processes and procedures for optimizing cost reductions, customer service and productivity improvements, and safety enhancements in department and/or facility. Lead continuous improvement activities including process innovations, employee development, operations strategies, and other activities within the department. Lead technological improvements to maximize efficiency and communication to Profit Centers relative to shipment status; lead integration to new MRP for area. Champion 5-S activities; lead and/or participate in Kaizen events. Provide input and prioritization to process improvement plans. Support implementation throughout the facility. Develop and maintain systems and procedures to ensure service quality, inventory accuracy, optimization of storage space, and on-time delivery. Attend weekly conference calls, workgroups and meetings. Requirements: Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering, Logistics, Business or related discipline preferred. A minimum of 5 years supervisory experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment, or in shipping and logistics. Experience working with MRP systems, preferably JD Edwards; experience with implementation of MRP systems a plus. Experience in a union environment a plus.
