The recent success of Butterfly Jigging in the United
States can be attributed to its early development in
Japan during the early 1990s. Japanese anglers developed
a revolutionary style of deep water jigging that changed
the nature of jigging as it was known at the time. Fishing
as deep as 500 feet, they were using the first generation of
super lines coupled with fluorocarbon shock leaders and
the original jig designs. Shimano was able to successfully
identify the significance of these jigs, and created a new
lure design introduced as the Butterfly Jig.
The lure combined with the line and tackle, helped
increase sensitivity to detect bites, and get successful
hooksets. The end result has been an increase in fish
catching percentages, proving that the Butterfly Jig
System works in aiding anglers across the globe to
catch more fish!
A variety of species have been caught throughout Japan
and Australia with the introduction of the Butterfly Jigs,
and the technique developed to fish them. Anglers in the
United States are enjoying the same success with the
launch of Shimanos Butterfly Jigs, and technique in 2005.
The Butterfly Jig system has proven its fish catching
prowess in a variety of different oceans throughout the
world, and has recently generated astounding success
for fisherman across both North and South America.
The Butterfly Jig catches more species of fish in more
locations, while providing you an exhilarating fishing
experience!

The Butterfly Jigging System
uses tackle designed to attract
and detect bites from even the
most finicky of fish. Its an
action/reaction system designed
to allow you to savor the
invigorating feel of every
movement while retrieving the
lure. The feel of the bite issimilar to the feeling of
electricity flowing through the
rod with every movement of the
fish exaggerated, due to the
sensitivity of the tackle.

Jigging Action:The Butterfly Jigging technique
requires a precise motion to impart the right fish
catching action to the jig. This technique works for both
conventional and spinning tackle with the same results.
After the jig is dropped to the desired depth, the rod tip
is facing down. With an upward circular motion, the
rod tip will be lifted up on the upswing of the reel
handle and lowered on the downstroke of the rotation.
The reel retrieve is a tight circular motion that is close
to the body with the rod butt held loosely under your
left armpit. The distance in which the rod tip moves
from top to bottom is approximately 10 to 20 inches
depending on the desired lure action and retrieval
speed. This technique will work on a fast or slow
retrieve depending on how the fish are reacting.
B U T T E R F L Y - L O N G Jigging Action:
The Butterfly -Long Jig is a very productive lure and
works well with the standard jigging technique outlined
previously, as well as the following Long jig technique
explained below.
The Long model jigging technique works with both
spinning and conventional tackle. This technique requires
the rod butt held loosely under your armpit depending on
what type of tackle (spinning or conventional). After the jig
reaches its desired depth, the rod tip is facing down. With
an upward jerking motion, bring the rod tip up to the 11
oclock position. Once up there, wind down taking up the
slack in the line until it comes tight, which will lower the
rod into the starting position then repeat as previously
described. You can adjust the speed of retrieve depending
on how the fish react.

SHIMANO TC4 F
CONSTRUCTION
Shimano has engineered the
next generation of TC4 construction. This new
construction uses a high carbon butt section and
used together with a TC4tip section. This new
blank design gives you the pulling power of TC4
but with less weight and increased sensitivity. You
will also notice a much faster recovery rate,
which will increase the jigging action.
