Good physical care is the first step to healthy wellbeing. Learning how to decrease tension, manage stress, and improve lifelong brain function builds the synchronici-ty your body needs to thrive.

Managing StressWe’re working on bringing more ways for our members to work on mindfulness improvement to the activity schedule, and the next opportunity is Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR): an eight-week evidence-based program that debuts at the Club on Mondays from 6pm-8:30pm from September 23rd through November 11th. Created by Jon Kabat-Zinn at the UMass Medical School, this course includes instructional seminars, mindfulness meditation practice, therapeutic movement, group discussion, and a one-day retreat to help us get in the zone. MBSR is effective at reducing stress, anxiety, depression, blood pressure, and headaches, while improving focus, self-regulation, immune function, self-care, emotional intelligence, and wellbeing resilience. Our session will be taught by Cathy Cebulski Sacco, qualified MBSR instructor and adjunct professor at Xavier University. The cost is $400 for members or $450 for non-member guests. Kickstart Your Weight Loss Planning a proper weight loss journey is a difficult task, and sticking to it is even harder. But, it’s one of the most important healthy decisions we can make for ourselves. Consider the Club’s Weight Loss Program to help you get started; it’s already helped more than 100 participants drop pounds, cholesterol, and blood pressure beyond all expectations. Come learn what it’s all about at the Club Weight Loss Experience, an informal weight loss discussion on October 9th at 6pm. Learn about the path of the program, taste the meals that guide the proper diet, and talk to participants and instructors that know what success looks like. No RSVP required. Contact: Kelsey Garrison

Plan For Retirement As you approach retirement, you’ll likely face a host of decisions that could significantly impact your financial future. Join us for Social Security and Planning for Healthcare in Retirement, an informational session on October 15th at 1pm. Presented by Nationwide and hosted by The Seven Hills Group at Morgan Stanley, this event will discuss some of the critical decisions you’ll have to make when planning for retirement, such as when and how to file for Social Security, navigating healthcare options, and financing effectively. Registration available online and on the Club app. Contact: Brittany Long

Pilates for Parkinson’sAs we age, it becomes more important that our physical and mental fitness efforts compliment each other to keep us at our best. Although Parkinson’s Disease (PD) is the most common neurodegenerative disease behind Alzheimer’s, it’s been proven that physical activity promotes the release of dopamine in the body to slow or halt problematic symptoms. Pilates is especially effective at helping people connect a mental workout with a physical routine; its core tenets of Concentration, Control, Centering, Flowing Movement, and Precision/Breathing, all of which are crucial to help people with any form of mental deterioration live a better life.CSC Pilates instructor Mary Wahrer is leading Pilates for Parkinson’s, a discussion designed specifically for people with this debilitating disease on Wednesday, September 4th at 6pm at the Club. Come learn the philosophy behind Pilates and put this healing practice into action. Contact: Phil Norton

Beginning New Routines

Explore Personal TrainingAccountability goes a long way when striving for a healthy fitness routine, and the right guidance can keep you progressing without plateauing. Upon becoming a new personal training client, you will receive a free MyZone Training Monitor to track your activity level. Contact: Phil NortonFree Pilates Week from October 14th-20th. The Club is one of the tri-state’s most comprehensive health & medical fitness sources. Experience a new routine this fall.

The T Squash Academy recently hosted the Cincinnati Junior Gold Tournament; out of 210 competitors from across the US, The T had 13 youth athletes compete across seven different age divisions, with our own JP Tew placing second in the Boys U19 division. The next chance to catch them in action is the Midwest JCT Tournament, held at the Club and The T beginning on September 13th. It’s one of five junior championship tour-naments in America, featuring the top 32 nationally ranked boys and girls from the U11-U19 divisions. Come show your support and cheer on the team. Contact: Jon GeekieFor a different style of inclusive play, step away from the courts and onto the turf with indoor soccer at the Club. Priority registration for the Winter II Youth League closes on October 4th, with a final deadline of October 25th. The Club’s unique style of 5v5 play is growing in popularity, with leagues available for all ages.

New this year, we’re in-troducing a “Free Agent” option for solo players who need a team. You’ll land on an existing team that needs a player to fill the roster, or on a full team of other freelance players. The cost is $75 for an eight-game session, and you must submit your request before the prior-ity deadline; there’s no guarantee for placement,

but you won’t be charged unless you land on a team. Visit our website or find a brochure at the Club for more information. Contact: Jordan Croop

Become a TeacherOnce you’ve gained proficiency with your personal practice, becoming a teacher to help others do the same is a solid path to continue your progress. The next teaching course is a 450-hour Pilates Teacher Training Program, an intensive education for aspiring instructors that meets the requirements for Pilates Method Alliance certification eligibility. We cover the history, core principles, ethics, and general practice of both classical and contemporary Pilates, before building our base knowledge about anatomy, breath, and movement. You’ll learn how to make modifications for injuries and advanced motions, building your skill through practice, observation, and teaching hours. Class takes place from 6pm-9pm on Friday, 12pm-6pm on Saturday, and 8am-2pm on Sunday for one weekend a month beginning the weekend of September 20th-22nd. Email Anne to learn more about the full schedule, ask questions about class plans, and register for the full course. Contact: Anne James

Have Fun Being a kid at the Club is the best. It’s one of the only places in town that’s full of kid-focused activities every day, so there’s always something to do and different ways to have fun. Our sports socials are a good place to start; we get together for an hour each month to play different sports with free food and drinks for everyone in attendance. The next event is the Youth Basketball Social on September 21st from 12pm-1pm for ages 10-14, followed by the Game Room Social on October 5th from 12pm-1pm for aged 6-9. Both are free to attend. Contact: Michael DownsIf you’re seeking a more party-like atmosphere for the whole family, mark your calendars for the annual Halloween Party on October 18th from 6pm-8pm. This event features a costume contest, face painting, a photo booth, cash bar, and games on the indoor soccer field. It costs $11 for adults and $7 for children; visit the Children’s Center or the CSC app to register. Contact: Jill Cordonnier

As we age, our body goes through natural physiological changes, including: decreased joint mobility, strength and endurance loss, cardiovascular adaptations, and balance issues. But the good news is that research has proven that these changes can all be improved through proper guidance and training, and that’s what we at Cincinnati Sports Club are here for!

Resistance training, in particular, has proven to be vitally important factor in significantly slowing the rate of decline in these changes in older adults. Of course, we also use resistance training with our 20- and 30-year-old members, but we implement a more individualized routine for those 55 and older by taking into account his/her own unique set of concerns, health issues and goals. If you are interested in a customized workout, please contact Vic Troha or any of the Club private trainers.
